A switch from 780mm wide 20mm risers to 770mm wide 38mm riser bars was a big help for me.

Thanks for the replies. I am tempted to go up 20mm in travel while I am at it to 150mm at the front. More travel, would be almost 2deg slacker, 5mm higher bb and just 7mm lost on reach….

Also keen to see what folk think as was looking at the 2 mentioned. Is there anything else with considering?

Sorry to slightly hijack but has anyone ridden a large or extra large mega 290? Saw one today and it looked massive!

For fast trail riding you might be able to go down in travel – Smuggler, Process 111 etc

I’ll be selling my large smuggler but tbh it’s great for trail riding, trail centres, longish rides, even the odd enduro race. Process 111 is similar but maybe more burly.

If anyone is still looking for a large smuggler give me a shout….

Unfortunately couldn’t make the race but would like to explore the trails soon. Would it be easy enough to piece together without having been there this weekend?

Thanks, Im more at the L/XL end of the spectrum!

Thought I saw a good deal on them recently but prices seem to have gone back up!

I used CiliaryBlue to get new lenses for my Oakley jawbones and they were good. Currently looking for new glasses/lenses for my wife and will probably go CiliaryBlue again.

Really need to get to Golspie! Never heard a bad word said about it….

For the folks that have been to Fochabers trails lately is it all clearly signed, particularly the gully monster trail?

Absolutely no help but there was a shop in Bergen when I was there quite few years ago with plenty of MTB’s in the window. You’d think with the terrain and generally outdoorsy lifestyle there’s bound to be plenty of nice places to ride.

I’ve found that generally the Euro shops are the best place to get ION gear at any time of year but there is an occasional Uk shop deal.

Wow! My bike is lucky if it gets a quick look before it’s abandoned in the shed till next time! Serious TLC shoddy leave yours like new!

transition1 – I’ll also be upping the travel on my Fox 34 at the front to 140mm at some point but I always thought, probably wrongly, that Transition designed the frame specifically around etc characteristics of the Monarch? I might be way off base there…

Think I’ll try the UberBike Race Matrix pads. heard them mentioned before and seem about tehsame price as SuperStar.

I’ve looked at it every time you’ve listed it and think its a good looking bike but I do agree with some of the points above:

    – 29er Rev not ‘cool’ despite the fact it might be decent. Pike/34/36 is what most are after.
    – No dropper again not ‘cool’ as almost everyone wants one and they are still expensive to buy.
    – The shorter than average large goes against what most want.
    – Some folks have issues with the Spesh Wheels.

I’m sure it is a good bike and if you’ve seen them going at £1200 on E-Bay then I’d say get it on there as in a few months more new bikes will appear and for all intents and purposes this one will appear older again…

Think I’ll go down the line of a genuine item designed for purpose as don’t want to botch something!

rockthreegozy – where’d you get the vinyl one? Was looking at them too….

JamesD – I am not sure about the Alu ones. I think the black one might look better on my vehicle. Do you know what brand your Dad went for?

Thanks for the feedback folks. I made it to Rosstrevor and got a nice sunny day for it and rode round with a good group of guys who made me feel very welcome.

I thought it was at least as difficult as most Scottish Red Grade trails. Didn’t have many stand out difficult sections or major obstacles but there was at times a fairly continuous series of small things to keep you focused! Felt like I had to concentrate and lots of small sticky out rocks that were at rear mech height too!

Cheated and took the uplift and then the climbing was easy enough up to Kodak Korner: Rosstrevor by weewillywinky[/url], on Flickr

Well worth a visit if you’re close enough to it.

If it’s really sloppy they usually close the gate at the bottom of the access track to the cafe etc. You can park in the small car park just past it though and cycle up.

Easton ARC 27/30 rims on some dt hubs. Tough enough for 100kg of unskilled rider on a 29er.

Thanks for the feedback folks. Had read that the climb from the car park is a brute. Does it take you most of the way up though?

Good to hear on the grading – would be ideal if it was slightly easier than 7stanes red! Will be myself and my wife who’s favourite trail is Glentress Blue but who’s able to do 7stanes reds.

Just need to find a day with decent weather now!

Daffy & Northwind – are they the Carbon Cobalt 11 bars? Seem hard to find, especially in 780mm width!

I have 2 pairs of the Race Team bars with massive yellow logos. You might be able to get the graphics off with nail polish remover of some other solvent but they seem pretty well adhered. I just covered it with some electrical tape, not to obtrusive that you notice immediately.

thanks STATO – wish they did a stealth version really. Tape would be my fallback option if the logo can’t be easily removed!

I’ve been interested in the vibrocore bars for a while. Any of you who own them able to tell me whether the logo could be easily removed or is it lacquered in to the bar?

Those of you saying go to an indoor slope first what is the major benefit? Get more out of the holiday by doing that first or do you think it is a realistic experience and can gauge the enjoyment of ‘proper’ skiing form it?
