Ive got an RRP Mini that I am selling as I am now using a Zeb fork for which I have the standard Rockshox short fender or a Mudhugger .

RRP is a better guard than either of them IMO

I actually do think it makes a massive difference – I used to get numb feet from using pedals that were too small / too narrow.

Crank Bros Stamp Large, Chromag Dagga and Deity T-Mac are the biggest platforms I’ve found but are all expensive.

@GHill nothing obtrusive though? Any real life pics you could share so I know what to expect?

About to list some little used Zees for sale…(not so stealth ad).

Lots of good brakes – Codes, Saint, XTR 4 Pot, Zee, MT7, MT5, MT Trail Sport but they seem to be very personal. Some folk like gradual, some want instant, some a short lever, some a longer broader lever etc

Very rarely hear Guides mentioned in the conversation though…

The more I hear about them the better they sound. Well apart from being heavy and draggy…

Without knowing exactly what you and your daughter are up for you could:
Do a couple of runs of each trail and the pump track at Tarland
Have a wee snack on the benches
Head to Aboyne and do the bike park there in a similar fashion
Have a wee cake from Spider on a Bike
Head to Birse Forest and do ‘Chutney’ on TrailForks – should be OK for her if she is happy with the length of Glenlivit Blue.
If you’ve still got energy then Cambus O May multi use paths can be good fun.
Plus theres Courie Courie cafe there too…

    Sounds like a good trip.

There’s loads everywhere- if you were in Ballater you could easily add Aboyne, Scolty in Banchory, Pitfichie and Bennachie plus others that you need to speak to locals about then do some proper big mountains with massive descents and unbelievable scenery. That’s not even thinking about some of the smaller networks.

Don’t mean to come across rude but heading further nort east will likely give you better, dryer weather than anywhere you’ve mentioned. However given where you’re starting from I totally understand the driving distance issue!

Can’t quite understand the difference between the plus and race 29er versions?

A buddy bought last years version and it’s really good, especially considering it’s outstanding value!

I’m sure both our trail bikes are heavier than most but the fun kinda hides it!

Trickstuff pads are great. Minimal bedding in and good power. Don’t last that long though so there’s a trade off.

No love for Superstar Kevlar anymore? They used to be well liked?

If you want waterproof then you re looking at heavier ones. Royal Storm pant are pretty good as are the Fox defend range which has waterproof and warm options.

If you want lightweight the Fox Flexair ones are good but Specialized Demo Pro are probably the best I have used.

There are a few ‘in betweeners’ that are not as light as say the Sepcialized but not really weather resistant either.

Anyway plenty of choice and moving away from the heavy old DH style.

A few British options – Deviate Highlander? Cotic Rocketmax? Pipedream Full Moxie? Starling Murmur? Plus Bird AM9 as already mentioned.

RAAW Madonna ticks the boxes but theres a waiting list….

Trickstuff pads if you want more power. Dyno tested and real life confirmed. Maybe don’t last as long as some though.

Would love to try the trickstuff stuff!

Anyone able to explain to my why Hope are so far off that level? If it’s all due to quality control is there a chance that some hopes might actually be lots better than others?

Thanks @continuity – pretty much confirms the DMR is the one to get.

Thanks StuE but that is actually the 31.8mm version. The labelling is a bit confusing on them its the 35+ model I need!

    groundskeeperwilly

    Thanks folks.

The Copperhead is 33mm so giving up a bit on the DMR at 27mm. Funnduro is 30mm so looks like a good second option if i can’t find a DMR!

Was really hoping there was another sub 30mm stack option out there….

Bird are great value and pretty good peddling bikes for the travel. Depending where you are in Scotland I’m sure the Scottish centre at Bennachie Bike Bothy can sort you out.

I know a few people who have run the Faast bars linked above as-well. If you are seriously struggling with vibrations through the bars they are a great option if a wee bit radical!

OP I have used the SQ Labs in the past and it always took a few rides for them to feel their best – not sure if I adapted or whether they ‘break in’.

    Ergon SM Pro was good.

Not a lot of difference for me between the 2. Vibrocore 31.8 probably the best then the 35mm version then the OneUps. I like the stealth look of the OneUps…

RevGrips are good and I think they do make a difference but I’ve now got a good bar, grip, lever set up which is working so no longer need the Revs.

    groundskeeperwilly

OneUp and SpanK Vibrocore are the best 35mm options IMO. I have tried quite a few!

I’ve Revgrips I am thinking about selling too…

Is it really that expensive Vs similar bikes from Santa Cruz, Specialized, Yeti, Mondraker etc?

It’s got a lifetime warranty too which is a step up from what they used to offer…

    Like the look of it.
