If you don’t have a peel, you could make your pizza up on a bit of baking paper, then transfer it paper and all onto your stone, from a chopping board or similar.

    It’ll still cook alright.

I’d still use the polenta if doing it that way.

So I’d have to ‘bake’ a stone in the oven for half an hour before I can put something in there that’s going to take about 10 minutes to cook.

Not exactly energy efficient is it?

Yep. Makes for a lovely crisp base though.

If you don’t “bake” your stone it won’t be as hot as the rest of the oven and will actually hinder the cooking.

    Polenta/corn meal +1.

Roll/stretch your dough out on a surface with a bit of corn meal on it, and let it stand for a bit before you load it up.

Cheese or tomato sauce leaking over the sides might make it stick too.

Yeah, that’s the sort of thing.

    Edit: @FuzzyWuzzy

I guess if that’s the perceived wisdom it would explain the put downs.

It was never my reason for getting one though…

If I were at home I wouldn’t be bitching on here, for sure.

A waxwing, taken in my village on Jan 1st.
Long lens, no tripod, hence not a great photo.

I may be a little naive but I bloody love my fatty. I did 30 miles on it today, and grinned for all of it. It was mostly on towpath, with a little bit of road, town and soggy forest thrown in (too wet round here for much else.)

I did get a lot of questions from riding pals, and a little ribbing, but those that rode it loved it.

I’ve had no trouble getting it rolling, and when rolling it does roll!

I ordered it ages ago and after a bit I started to regret it, wondering if I really needed one, but so many fat riders say (type) about how great and fun they are, I had to have it. Anyway, as it stands, I’m not sure when I’m going to want to ride anything else again.

I’m not really all that into weights and components and fettling, I just like to ride.
I love riding my fatty. Thanks on one.

    10cc Dreadlock Holiday.

I’ll take that. Would have prefered Hareydan’s though.

Take a tile to a local roofing supplier/builders merchant and say that you want another of the same.

They won’t bite. It’ll cost you no more than a quid or two i imagine.

Sticking a broken bit of tile back on wouldn’t really be the way to go, even if you could find the bit.

Edit: alternatively, if you’re not sure about how to take a tile off/replace it etc, get someone else to do it. You might end up breaking more if you’re not careful.

    What’s with all the rails?

Have these sections not been used in the guided rides?

I’ve had storage heaters in a couple of places I’ve lived, and tried and tried to get them to work well. I came to the conclusion that they just won’t.
The dog loved them though, the house was toasty while we were out at work.

    Is it a rented place?
Otherwise, might be worth getting a boiler and some rads.

Edit:Oh, and double glazing and insulation will probably make a big difference.

    I ordered some yesterday.
Got an email today saying they had been dispatched.

    (thanks OP)

I ordered one a while back.

In the meantime I’ve sort of gone off the idea.

Part of me wants to cancel the order, another part wants to get the bike to find out what all the fuss is about.

Stricly speaking I’m not actually in Cambridge, I’m 5-6 miles south.
I assumed that Cambridge would have roughly the same sort of soil. You live and learn.

Can I borrow some of your sand?

    I’m in Cambridge.

As above, the ground is saturated and the soakaway is overflowing.

Grizla, search for sand drains. May be a solution in your case if you are not allowed to connect to the sewer.

    Cheers, will do.

You might want to check that the soakaway will work.

I’ve just dug one into clay soil with a high water table. It has no capacity, and doesn’t drain. With all this rain lately the water has just ended up sitting in my front garden.

Now looking into whether I can connect to the sewer instead.

    Thanks guys.

crashtestmonkey, I’d seen elsewhere that you have to pay, that’s not a problem. Cheers.

One other thing, the car park, is that the grass verge that’s mentioned on the woburn trails site?

    Grizla

    Brilliant, thanks Jase.
I’ll try and swing it so we’re there for 10 or 11.

Is there enough there to keep us occupied for 2-3 hours?
(I didn’t realise it was a small area)

Jase, we’ve not worked out the details yet but it will be on Sunday.

Pace won’t be extreme, because there might be a couple of fairly new riders with us.
They’re fit, but might not be as fast through any tech bits.

If we can turn up and fill 2-3 hours with exploring then I’m sure we’ll be happy. I’m mostly concerned about either getting lost or standing around lots wondering where to go.

Do you know how dry/wet it is at the moment?

    Grizla

    Sorry for the hijack.

Looks like I’ll be going to Woburn this weekend with a couple of mates. None of us have been there before.

How easy is it to find trails/put together a ride?

Anyone got any maps/directions that would help?

    Thank you.

You could well be right, but I don’t want to spend my life worrying about stuff that probably won’t happen.

Besides, that guy seemed mostly annoyed at RLJers and abusive cyclists, both of which I can understand.

Edit: and cyclists getting shirty with him on twitter isn’t exactly going to help.

They’re mostly kids, probably just passed their test and trying to distance themselves from the kids in the “year below” (and themselves of a year ago) that are still riding round on pushbikes.

They’re not going to understand the point of view of the grown up men that are worrying about the shite they’re spouting.

Well I’ve gone and preordered an on one.
    Roll on December.

So please, nobody say anything bad about the fatty…

I’ll get a cuppa and have a look.

I’ve not read all the replies so I apologise if repeating anything.

IME depression feeds off itself. I’m very analytical (ins and outs of a duck’s and all that) and I’ve been depressed. For me, trying to make sense of it all just made it worse.

I’m happier now, for the fact that I try to not think about being unhappy. When I feel the downs starting to come I’ll distract myself (biking, walking the dog, DIY, sorting the shed) and it seems to help nip it in the bud. Doesn’t always work, but it’s much better than it was.

I expect others probably have it worse than me though, so I’m not sure what my opinion is really worth.

    All the best though.

Presumably your box is going to be open at the bottom, for the tree trunk to pass through again, so why not just let the water run down the trunk and back out of the bottom?

Bit pissed to find the £50 tickets give you exactly the same access as the £20’s though

    Is that definitely true?
Surely they couldn’t get away with that…

I replaced a screen in my laptop.
Cost ~£60 for the screen and took a few minutes to change.

The old one just unclipped and unplugged.
New one plugged in and clipped in. Pretty simple stuff.

Edit: just noticed that you said you’ve already got a new laptop.

I feel for you, sounds like a horrible situation.

It sounds to me that you/your daughter don’t know how to deal with the dog you have, and that he is also probably quite unhappy.

I’d be either considering rehoming him, or very quickly learning all I could about dog behaviour/training, and getting him sorted that way. You will need as much (probably much more) training as the dog though.
    It won’t be easy.

    Best wishes to you all.
