Don’t know if there’s any town vs gown tension there.

There’s a bit, usually when the ‘big’ school forgets that it’s part of a wider community. But by and large everyone gets on OK. Second the observation about the local state school being pretty good.

Sedbergh is nice, and I’ve heard it has a friendly, welcoming community

Agree with this (brought up in Sedbergh but now living in Dent)! I think it’s particularly good for families. However property of any size is expensive to buy – slightly better value if you’re willing to rent.

If you ride country lanes or roads with poor surfaces in the dark there’s a bigger risk of hitting holes and the like. Your FS would obviously cope OK and feel more secure; lightweight road bike, not so much. => suggestion of a cheap CX bike seems a good one to me.

I think you’ll find hunting, fishing and shooting are sports. Everything else is a game or a pastime.

“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games.” Hemingway: always a man of the people 🙂

I see what you did there…!

Glad someone’s on the ball 🙂

I had to my cancel my c/card last year after someone started buying airline tickets on it. Barclaycard picked up the change in pattern straight away. However I was stunned when talking to the fraud team when they admitted they probably wouldn’t attempt to track those responsible down – it’s cheaper to just take the hit (buying an airline ticket I thought would make it easy to catch someone!)

If your card has an RFID/NFC chip it is technically possible to do this although I’m not really sure how much this is happening and how big the risk is. You do see wallets and such with metallic linings being sold, supposedly to foil this sort of scanning.

Was last there in May 2012. Agree that the bikes are good enough that it’s not worth taking your own. You can’t take the Neilson bikes out on your own – minimum of two people – but it’s more fun in the guided groups anyway.

The road cycling is really good; I think the MTB not quite as good but still fun. The bigger road trips start pretty early in the morning so you get back with time to do lots of other stuff during the day. The MTB trips started later in the morning, when I was there at least, so tended to take a bit more of a bite out of other recreational time.

    It’s a beautiful spot!
