Thanks for the heads up! I just treated myself to a fancy leather wrist strap for my new camera that Id been looking at the other day and couldnt justify the price. It still a lot of money for a bit of leather, but -£5, and with only a couple of minutes to make my mind up, I panicked and hit the confirm button. I still feel like Ive been had at the reduced cost 😆

    I wouldn’t trust a OCZ drive

Ive a couple of OCZ SSD’s based on all the good reviews when I bought them. Ive had em a year or so with no probs yet (touch wood). Why wouldnt you recomend them? A very quick search revealed a couple of failures, but as they were probably the best selling for so long, your talking a real minority surley?

I tried a couple of 7200rpm drives in my laptop and it was awfull. I could deal with the noise, but the vibration drove me mad. I took the first one back (Seagate Momentus)and tried another 7200rpm WD scorpion but it was just as bad. I ditched that and put in an OCZ SSD which is flippin brilliant. The system boots in about 12 seconds and its really snappy to use. The SSD drive made my aging laptop feel cutting edge again. Now you can get 120 gig drives for £70 ish its a real no brainer.

Nope. I figured the whole point of the lycra was to stop chafing that all the stitched seams and cotton can cause with cotton pants. My wife couldnt get her head around it for a while. I just told her to think of the lycra shorts as big nylon knickers.

I think you’ll be pretty safe in a Maserati GranSport. I’d just look and think nice car you lucky bar steward. Unless of course you’re driving like a prick, then I’d brand you the same as the other 40yr old flash car driving ****s. Drive it respectfully and courteously and you’ll be just fine. Enjoy it!

Congratulations to you both, and bloody well done on making the day so perfect for her. Having got married myself this year, it’s fresh in my memory just how tiring it is getting all the little things right.

Good on you woppit. Whilst I’m only 32, it’s nice to know age is no excuse and there’s hope for us all.

Would the Marin trail be a good choice for my wife then? She can climb well, but she really dosent like steep decents, or boulders, or roots, or anything that isnt pretty much smooth singletrack or fireroad. She can just about manage pot holes . It would be nice to ride somewhere with her thats tame, but has enjoyable scenery. Thanks in advance for any constructive surgestions.

Office work isn’t generally core to the business in many industry’s. You just need someone for a few hours a day to tidy up the paperwork and hold a few meetings so hat the actual skilled staff can get on with their job free of the burden of paperwork etc. It makes since for them too work little and often whilst the rest of us do a three or four long shifts a week and enjoy the time off.

I’ve been using them for a couple of years on a 4 blurays a month subscription. That’s about 80 odd discs and I’ve never had a bad one yet? Either your pretty unlucky or your players a bit temperamental.

I’ve tried them all, including the Bavaria wit above which is actually quite good. However, my recommendation would be Cobra’s alcohol free version. It’s the nearest to normal larger that I’ve had.

Ive just done the main pivot bearings on a meta 6 for my mate. I’m used to changing bearings as I’m a maintenance engineer. Trust me, for 40 notes, get it done at the shop if you’ve reletivly little experience doing them. It could easily go all wrong if your using big blunt screwdrivers a sockets as described above. The swing arms an awquard shape to hold and brace square whilst you drift the old bearings out. The force needed to move them could well screw the frame up if you get it wrong and their seized in, and if you smash the inner bearing ring, leaving the outer stuck in, your in for even more fun if it’s behind the inner lip. It might look like a simple task, but theres a lot about fitting bearings than most will realise. I’ve even seen bike shops knock a bearing in by the inner ring, so their not always right either, but at least your frame should be safe.

The little 608 bearings in the shock linkage are a piece of piss though.

    This: –

He posted on the for sale post, could have paid then.

If for any reason he couldnt use the easiest payment method in the world right away, then you should have mentioned to the seller the slight delay. Sellers can be messed about a lot with tyre kickers and perverts, so its first come, and pay promptly or sod off in my book.

I cant think of any negatives about my u-turn revs. 30mm of adjustment between 120 and 150mm. As above, the fork seems just as active where ever they’re set to. I guess the adjustment takes a few seconds longer than the other types, but I dont constantly alter them so its not an issue. I just set them in the morning for the type of riding im doing and leave them alone.

You sound like a rational guy and a breath of fresh air from the camera wearing blame game cyclists so many others are giving us a reputation for. He was in the wrong, but he sure as hell learnt his lesson and won’t make that mistake again. The realisation of what could have happened will make him think cyclist every time he drives again. Luckily you weren’t broke, he sounds like he was genuinely sorry. Buy a spoke tensioner, enjoy learning to straighten a wheel, and revel in the good Karma for forgiving and moving on. Hopefully this guy will tell others of his experience, make them think a bit more about cyclists too.

My old mans got an 07 plate 2.0 TDCi too. Its just done 150k miles and It’s been making the same squeek as you gear down for a little while now and its getting slightly worse. Having researched the ford forums, its tyipcal of a failing dual mass flywheel. If it does it as you let off the gas too, and thus winding the dual mass up, its probably a safe bet.

I pulled the starter motor out following a surgestion on one of the ford forums and surely enough, there was a fair amount of iron fillings knocking about thats coming off the flywheel. Its just a matter of time now before it fails. Ive been quoted £750 to have it done at a good independant garage.

Fingers crossed yours is just a squeeky clutch, but from what Ive read from other ford mechanics, the squeek you describe is usually the dual mass. Can you hear any ratteling from the box when stationary? With it out of gear, and sometimes with the clutch peddal sligtly depressed, you can hear the thing shaking itself to bits.

I suspect a great deal more respect and care would be given to cyclists by motor vehical drivers if they were forced to leave the car at home and commute by cycle themselves for a week. It would give them a better cyclists perspective. Trouble is I cant think of a way of getting people to do it, other than perhaps encouraging insurance companies to give people who have been on a weeks road cycling course a discount on their car insurance for being less likely to kill one?

Theres a good argument to say all cyclist should try driving a car too, but thats completely impractical.

Well if your going to start quoting the highway code to defend your troll point then it quite clearly states they were in the wrong in the section pasted below. We could rangel all day about the highway code and legalities, but point remains, roadies that hold up traffic for several miles are just bleeding inconsiderate of other road users. Even tractors pull in and let you pass if there’s a spot. Cycling like that just gives us a bad name.

    You should
keep both hands on the handlebars except when signalling or changing gear
keep both feet on the pedals
never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends
not ride close behind another vehicle
not carry anything which will affect your balance or may get tangled up with your wheels or chain
be considerate of other road users, particularly blind and partially sighted pedestrians. Let them know you are there when necessary, for example, by ringing your bell if you have one. It is recommended that a bell be fitted

Ive got a cheap one I bought from makro years ago. Think it cost £30, and it works great for what it is. As you already assumed, they are better at keeping things cold than actually making them cold. Great for a short camping weekend anyway. Trick is to pack them out with a couple of blue freezer blocks and a few tins of beer. As with any fridge, the more you put in them, the better they work.

I invested a tenner on a 12v socket splitter with an intergrated battery voltage monitor that switched the supply off if the battery was getting low. It would run for about 8 hours off the battery during the hot part of the day before the socket would cut the power. That is plenty of time to ensure my beer was icy on saturday night and my milk and butter were still cold sunday morning.

If your trying to compare fridges, generally speaking, the larger the peltier junction, the better the cooling, the more watts it will draw.

Dont leave it to cook in the car all day either and then wonder why its not as cold as you hope’d. Just lift it out onto the shady side of the car before you ride off. Trail the lead through the door rubber or something.

As above, pull a few fuses and see if it still drains. It’s very common for the alternator rectification diodes to fail, causing the battery to drain back into the alternator coils. Shouldn’t take a good electrician long to find, but you won’t find one of them at a Stealer dealer though. Find a good independent. Alternatively, get an ammeter and connect it between the battery and the terminal to see what it’s drawing when switched off. Shouldn’t be more than about 25mA.

Is an adult defined as having responsibility?

Thats pretty much how I see it. Having dependants and actually being dependable changes a lot about how you behave and the choices you make. When you stop and think about the concequences of your actions on other people, or more importantly, your own health for the sake of dependants, then your an adult. And yes, That includes pulling off daft shizzle on a push bike.

Theres a lot of very young adults in the world and a whole load of 50 year old children.

The train from Manchester picadilly to Euston only takes 2 hours and is a far more pleasant way to travel down than by car. It will probably cost less for a sunday than the fuel for the 4/5 hour journey too.

Perhaps the best thing for you, the puplic and for your brother is a good spell behind bars, away from the drink, where he could get some mental help, think about his life a little, and sort himself out. I know the reform centers arnt flawless, but if his only concern about the whole incident is the fact he missed a couple of days sunshine, then perhps missin a whole summer might get through to him?

Ive got a “Targus Versavu” from john lewis. Its a leather wallet syle case that the ipad just clips into. It looks after it well enough to cope with a short fall and protects the front and back very nicely. Its nice to hold and I think its rather astheticly pleasing too. The 360 swivel on the back that reveals the apple badge isnt just a gimmic either, it works very well and is quite usefull.

Unlike the members above, I cant understand why they have to make these things so thin and fragile, mobiles too. I cant use them unless theres a little more to get hold of? Perhaps its my big hands?

When I was an apprentice, I was sent away with a few lads on an outward bound week up near lock Eil, nr fort william. on the second night of our hiking expedition we erected our tents on the side of a hill and decided to cook higher up where there was a little wind to try and escape the midges that had plagued us for days. All was going well until we noticed one of the tents smoking away down the hill.

Macca must have flicked his cig to near the flysheet! We legged it down the hill to put the thing out, but as we neared the tent I realised that was no smoke but a swarm of frickin midges! Unable to stop for our momentum and the gradient of the hill, we ran right through the lot. No jungle juice would have saved us from the proceeding feast. Needles to say I’ll not be returning in midge season ever again.

Hmm, Im trying to think of some kind of improvised cutting tool you could use to skim the mounting face with the wheel spinning on an upside down bike whilst you mate spins the pedels. 😆

Cleaver use of a dremel and a few clamps to the chainstay may just do the trick. Top bodging. 😀

I asked the chief bridesmaid to sneak me a picture of the Tiara my wife had bought. I matched a nice swarovski necklace and earings to it and had the bridesmaids give them her from me on the morning. She was very very happy as I knew she didnt really have a nice set of her own to wear and wasnt perticually happy with the ones shed borrowed for the day.

My figures are aproximate but, Fossil fuel power stations are about 30 to 50% efficient, with internal combustion engines about 20%. Even after the power transmission losses, I can see why the argument that electric cars are more environmental should stand true, and cheaper once the technology improves.
