Ive just bought one of these from Merlin.

At 8.4kg, its bearley heavier than its dedicated road equivenlent the trentino, and as far as I can tell, very little difference in geo either. I went for a fitting and test ride and I was sold on the spot. I cant see why with a set of road tires it wouldnt be every bit as good as a road bike, short of running out of gears at 30mph. If I get fit enough for that to be a problem, I fancy running a compact chainset that would easily resolve it.

It conforms to Rule #8[/url] too. Although I plan to break many others 😆

A 1.9 CDTI Vectra you say. I fear the worst. Needless to say I doubt a bottle of redex will do anything to help. Odds are very very likely the manifolds 50% + blocked with an oily carbon crud, and the swirl flaps arnt far from stuck, or just plain broke as the linkage snaps when they get jammed by the gunk. The usual remedy is a new intake manifold, as they cant be repaired, which requires the cambelt removing to change. £1200 later it will be like new…..for a year or two. Have a nosey over at vectra-c.com and search from 1.9 cdti swirl valves or EGR etc. Personally i’d just get rid of it now.

I think New Zealand and South Australia has it right – just include insurance with car registration/tax.

Since its a legal requirement, it seems right that the government take some responsibility over the industry. Perhaps if they ran car insurance like the NHS, we’d get much better value for money and less unscrupulous fat cats, ambulance chasers and rip off repair centres cashing in. They already own the driver and occupants repair facilities so surely that would cut costs 🙂

I’m just not convinced women are better drivers. When I think about my friends and family, the women I know who actually drive have just as many accidents if not more, perticulaly my wife. I can’t find many stats that look at men and women per million miles say, and those that I can suggest that women have more accidents. I think the facts that less women drive, and those who do drive shorter distances, or sit in the passenger seat whilst their significant other drives the family round, makes the percentage of accidents that happen likely to involve a man, not because of his poor driving, but by the sheer amount of miles covered compared to women make it more likely. I may be wrong, but I can’t find any really good stats to prove the opposite in the last 20 mins 🙂

Ive got a pair of Endura FS260 Pro knee warmers and they do exactly what they’re supposed too. They have a decent layer of latexy giggle band around the top of each to prevent then slipping down that works well if in contact with your skin. I.e. pull them up UNDER your shorts and they will stay put from my experiance with them.

Because the sum of the friction of the bearings in the actual free hub that run on the axle are greater than that of the pawls in the ratchet. Nothing much to worry about, but might be worth cleaning or replacing your free hub bearings if it bothers you. So long as the free hub spins freely then theres really nothing actually wrong, its just a quirk of the design.

Sorry I know thats a boring answer. Lets just go back to ghosts! 🙂

Could be your scuttle panels full of leaves, the drains are blocked, and so waters pouring in through the pollen filter straight onto the blower motor. Wet motor windings short the resistor out.

We’ve got a tassimo and its perfect for our needs. Mrs Grimy loves the caramel Machiato, hot chocolat and petit dejeuner. I’ll have the odd expresso, but mostly americanos and proper full mugs of coffee, which was something the Nespresso we were shown just couldnt do (110ml max I belive). Balls to that. Horses for courses I guess. Tried a Chai Tea Latte tassimo the other day…..Not sure about that one yet, but the range is great. You can order direct online just as with the nespresso too so thats no problem.

Another vote for the SDG Bell Air.

Dare I ask if youve done a lot of riding before? Sounds like you might not have done a great deal of miles in the saddle recently, and youve just got a new bike. In which case it dosent matter what saddle you use for a few rides. Until your arse has become acustom to sitting on a skinny saddle for a few hours its just going to hurt no matter what seat you have. It will get infinitly better within half a dozen good rides though. So If im right, just bare with it a little longer before you splash the cash.

Missed the bits in the other posts pointing out that its Flash causing crash problems, did you?
A plague of boils on the ass of Flash. It’s final demise cannot come soon enough.

Nope, I cought them, just never had that problem EVER. It’s still no excuse to deny all apple customers at least the option to try it. Twunts

IE9 on windows 7 and Safari on my Ipad. Ive never really felt the need to try an alternative as each manufacturers proprietary package seems to work perfectly well. Apart from the lack of flash on the ipad of course but thats another matter that still boils my piss.

What are the advantages of firefox and chrome? Is there a real great tangable difference or is just the odd minour idiosyncrasies that set them apart.

Damn that pioneer would have been perfect if it had an aux in.

Good news, it does have audio in capability. You just need an ip bus conector and you can connect what you like via two phono plugs. I have said cable and used it to listen to my iPod.

Grimy – Would you consider selling it?, i may be interested.

Im open to offers. Email me on Adam_Marsland at hotmail dot com for pics and details if you wish. It’s in impeccable condition with original box and all accessories.

Ive got one of these. I like the old fashioned look of the twin dials. There’s minimal daft lights and they are still well sought after for the quality burr brown DACs by the car audiophiles. Shame it wont fit in my latest car 🙁

weve got one here at work. It’s about three times the size of the one shown in the OPs video but with a great big hopper on top. There is very little it wont eat. Xmas trees, bricks, sofas, you name it. It can be jammed up if you overfill it with fabric though. I used to have to climb in and clear it. Needless to say id tripple checked I’d locked it off at the isolator, pulled the breakers, and removed the motor contactors from the control cabinet before I even considered going near it. Even then it gave me the willies.

If the bolts are coming loose, I’d guess the bearings are already seized and are turning the bolts loose as the suspension moves through its travel. How easy is access to the bearings? I’d want to remove them and give them all a good check and clean. Pop the seals off and flush them out, check they feel ok, the repack with a good water resistant grease. The finish line lithium stuffs pretty good.

Ive given it all some more thought and i Think I’m starting to fall off the fence towards you. We can call all union a marriage if you like 😛 I guess it doesn’t hurt me or change the special thing I share with my wife so fill your boots and may you be happy.

If you want to try and engage others who think differently as we’ll, may I suggest you respect their current views and tackle them with lesser words than bigot.

Edit. And thank you to those in this thread who refrained from insult and instead used intellect. Appreciated.

sorry but you don’t have the right not to be upset about something that in this case is just offering the same rights to same sex couples that mixed sex couple currently enjoy.
Bandying the term “bigot” about can cause upset and there’s a fair bit of confusion about the subject but if you read and understand the for argument and your only counter argument is “but its two men ewww” or “it’s just not right” then you’re getting pretty close to bigot territory. You don’t have to have your own gay marriage or embrace the idea of gay relationships, you just have to allow them the same rights straight people have.

Sorry I think we’re arguing two different points. I have no problem with gay partnership. I agree with you, I think they should absolutely have the same rights. I think all religion should respect and bless this union. I haven’t ever counter argued that “it’s a bit ewww” if that’s what you think I’ve been saying you’ve not understood my points as I tried very hard to put across. Perhaps your not really reading and actually thinking about my earlier discussions. My point all along is that marriage is the description of a unique union between a man and woman. To call a gay partnership marriage changes its meaning. Nothing to do with religion and beardy men.

What I would like is one (just one) of the religious arguers against, to admit that they are arguing for that corner simply because he/she (has there been a female religious objector so far, BTW?) is a bigot, plain and simple.

    That would be progress.

I’m pretty insecure about my religious beliefs, but you can call me spiritual if that’s near enough.
I think bigot is a pretty strong word that describes hatred and intolerance. Bigoted intolerance and holding your own opinion whilst respecting that of others Is very different.

Calling gay partnership, marriage, does redefine and challenge my perception of what is marriage is. Does that really hurt me? I’m not sure……. You don’t seem to care that’s for certain. In your eyes I’m just wrong. That may or may not be true, but now your the intolerant one.

    Grimy

There is no unique relationship between a ‘man’ and a ‘women’ for marriage to describe. This is because there is no such thing as a ‘man’ and a ‘woman’, everyone is different.

    Bang on.

There are more differences between people of the same sex than there are between people of different sexes. To say otherwise is to define someone by their gender, rather than as an individual.

That makes no sense. Whilst its wrong to define someone by gender, it’s also the traits typical of a gender that you find attractive weather gay or straight. To suggest male and female are the same, is to suggest that sexual preference does or should not exist. We tend to be gay or straight because we endear the things that are unique in men or women. Your argument holds no water.

Ok so my last post wasnt well made, I apologise.

To be honest, I’m on the fence with this one and I can’t make my mind up. I’ve listened to both sides and each has valid points.

I have absolutely no problem with gay partnership. Committing to each other in a loving, stable relationship and wanting to share that with friends and family is fantastic. It’s very similar/the same as marriage and I can see why anyone regardless of sexual preference would chose to live that lifestyle.

Where I am torn is the re-definition of the meaning of marriage. For me, the word marriage describes the unique relationship between a man and a woman. Men and women by very nature are different in all sorts of ways that make the pairing both trialling and rewarding, but the sum of that pairing is a blending of traits typically unique to each sex. Something I am proud to share with my wife.

I believe it’s just different to the pairing of same sex couples; it’s not necessarily better or worse, or by any means harder or easier, just unique. Calling all unions “marriage” strips it of that.

Why is partnership not enough? I don’t see it as any less, but I don’t agree that it’s the same. Is that the crux of the argument perhaps? That you want me to belive its the same. Do you belive that by forcing the church into same sex marriage that would somehow change the way people think of marriage to suit your definition what ever that may be? Do you really belive that will bring you more equality? How?

I’ll be 50 but I don’t owe a great deal as it is. I could be mortgage free a lot sooner, but I’m having an early mid life crisis with trips to Aus, and lots of other experiences before we have kids and become social lepers. When we knock one out and loose our free time, social life and freedom, we will have a little more money for early mortgage payments. Fingers crossed I’m shooting blanks. We will get a trail dog instead 🙂

Ive yet to see one of them chain cleaning things actually work. You can’t get much easier than a undoing a split link and dropping the chain in an old coke bottle with a degreaser of you choice and giving it a good shake. Job done. Not tat I bother with that much these days, since using “squirt” wax lube it doesn’t get dirty and sorta self cleans.

If your trees are within a good extension lead range, you cant go wrong with an electric chain saw. Damn site easier, safer, cleaner. No petrol to **** about with, stops dead in a split second, more torque, more neigbour freindly.

So going to look at a Vauxhall Vectra 1.8l 06 plate on Monday. Anything I should be looking out for?

The 1.8 petrol if fairly robust in that car so just check its been serviced regularly and that shouldn’t give you any bother.

Things that the Vectra is prone too:-

Check the heater blower works on all settings as the pollen filter drain under the scuttle tray can be easily blocked with leaves, which leads to water pouring in through the fan assembly and shorting out the resistor pack. Fairly easy and cheap to fix, but a very common fault. Wet passenger seat carpet also gives the game away.

The cruise control can play up on them if its fitted. That’s normally the result of dirty contacts between the stalk and the column integrated module. Quick clean and the skilful tensioning of the contact springs usually sorts it.

Rear upper suspension arm bushes are prone to failure and will cause excessive inside wear on the rear tyres when they’ve gone. Excessive tyre noise or droning from the rear is a good indicator too.

The Coil springs can snap, same as any car these days they all do it. Tends to be the fronts and the last part of the coil where it sits in the damper strut cup.

If it was the 1.9 diesel you are going to look at, id give you a list the length of my arm, and suggest a rethink, but the petrols aren’t bad at all.

My perants just had the same symptoms from their WB. As above, it was the small plate, or what i’d call the heat exchanger. It was partially blocked causing the hot side to overheat and the boiler to trip off until it cooled enough to fire up again, thus the oscillating output.

I wonder what percentage of “failed to look properly” accidents could have been avoided by cyclist putting themselves in positions where they can be seen more easily and not up the inside of a truck turning left. I recon theres a good portion of blame on both sides. If every cyclist often drove and every driver was a regular cyclists, then there would be a little more mutual respect and understanding of each others road positioning, and the ability to predict each others actions that would inevitably make it all a little safter.
