My kids are a little older, so Miss Hoolie, or the original Josie Jump, (not the second one).

We don’t know who’s fault it was, that’s a fact.

We do know who knew they had been involved in an accident but didn’t stop, that’s a fact.

Typical poorly researched GadgetShow rubbish. They forgot the one new feature of the 510, the bluetooth thingy to link with your phone while out.

Also, not a single mention of Strava, my Garmin hasn’t seen Garmin Connect since it was new.

Prescription Black Iridium Transitions on Flak Jacket, bought online from RxSport, cheapest i could find. Absolutely love them, but thats just me compensating for the outrageous price.

Planes only go down runways to build up speed through the air, no airspeed, no takeoff. Landspeed is irrelevant.

If it was really windy it could do it, but it could also do it from a standing start as well.

Make sure you watch the video about fitting tyres to stan’s rims

I spent some hours cursing to put Hans Dampf on Crests, then watched the video, used the drop channel and can now do straight away every time.

I nearly did the same, spent hours swearing trying to get some Hans Dampf’s fitted to crests. I then watched the video on stan’s website and realised the trick required of pushing the tyre down into the well in the middle of the rim. You should get 75% of the way round, then make sure the tyre is right in the middle which frees up just enough slack to pop the remaining bit on.

I could easily fit them with tubes and the green tape.

I used to use iPhone + a bluetooth 4 HRM which was ok, a little awkward to keep them paired sometimes. The cost of adding BT cadance + stuff to safely put it on the handlebars was going to get pricey, so I switched to a Garmin instead.

Added bonus that the phones battery doesn’t go flat.

I work for a large retailer, we provide QR codes alongside URLs, but really as it is in fashion, few customers really use them.

We would generally provide things that our customers could use inside our application, we don’t really expect people to download a third party app, that would probably show a load of competitors adverts.

Elixir 5’s came on my bike, worked for the past 18 months with no maintenance other than changing pads, never been bled.

I wear 661 Rhythm knee pads for longer, less technical rides. It’s just a bit of foam sewn onto a knee warmer, but has saved knee and shins a few times.

My other half uses Apple’s own Friend Finder to check my position, it only sends my position when she’s looking, not all the time, so doesn’t kill the battery.

34 years type 1, novorapid and lantus pens. I’m pretty aware of my levels changing, don’t take readings out on rides but carry glucotabs and stop to eat a power bar if I’m out over 2 hours. I only drink water in when riding, just used to it.

    also exactly this ….

Anyone find that if you hypo in the night you lie there thinking “I’ll go back to sleep and I’ll be alright” wake up five mins lare soaking and think “get up you pillock” eat a huge bowl of cereal with milk, then wake up the next day with a BGL of 20. Like, FFS!!
I find one of the hardest things to do is treat hypos effectively, I know I should follow the 15-15 rule but when your BS is 2.2 your body goes in to a self preservation mode and logical thought does become very difficult.

.. which is super annoying when trying to lose weight.

I doubt spraying some muc-off about is introducing you to as many nano particles as you would get from a diesel car driving past.

If you are worried about it it’s easy enough to use something else.

My Airport Extreme lets me limit hours by mac address. I don’t think hacking to change mac address is all that straightforward on a phone and if you see him using it then he learnt something other than just messaging friends.

Good news, some of the previously closed trails are being reopened for tomorrow, namely the top of W9Y, Stickler, Tank Traps and Deer Stalker.

Babymaker, Axle, Jump gully, Labyrinth etc. have been open all the way through.

My wife works in cancer research, I think it’s worth people remembering the amount of progress that has been made in treating these horrible diseases, from the CRUK website …

Half of people diagnosed with cancer now survive their disease for at least five years.[/*]

Cancer survival rates in the UK have doubled in the last 40 years.[/*]

Almost three-quarters of children are now cured of their disease, compared with around a quarter in the late 1960s.[/*]
It’s a great example of where truly deep scientific research is directly being applied to saving lives. Anyone who has donated or raised money for Cancer Research UK needs to know that it’s what’s allowing this progress to happen.

I’m biased as I just bought a Defy 2 for winter, my conclusions were

Tiagra on the Defy, Sora on the Triban. Main difference being the downshifting on the sora being a button up on the hood rather than a lever you can reach when in the drops. I think there is also a difference in being able to shift down multiple steps on Tiagra.

I’m not sure, but the triban doesn’t look to have points on the back for fitting mudguards ? Defy does, and there are giant specific guards that fit without issue.

From others comments I gather the saddle on Triban will need changing right away, more than offsets buying some pedals. I use M520 mtb clips. The Defy’s saddle seems fine.

The Triban’s forks are carbon, while the defy is alu .

Most reviews seem to say the Triban is a great bike for £500, and the Defy is a great bike for £800, if you can find your size for £200 quid less then you should be doing pretty well, I paid £100 more than that.

    Not that I could find,

There is a bluetooth screen thing coming from wahoo but it still relies on iPhone. See if you bluetooth heart monitor vendor lists anything compatible, if it’s the Wahoo one like mine there is nothing shown.

You’ll probably get enough by ebaying it to pay for an ant+ replacement.

I wouldn’t make a special trip, most of the main trails are closed as the new routes are being built, ready for a grand opening next month.

Closed Trails are roughtly, some of W9Y, All of Stickler, Tank Traps, Seagul, top of Deerstalker etc.

Once it’s all done these routes will be part of the new trail network, with a blue loop from the carpark which joins with a red loop half way, all properly signposted and with all weather surfaces. Can’t wait for it to be finished !

I just ordered a Giant Defy 2 from PedalOn, starting with a similar brief to you. Although it’s over your budget, you can get about £100 of accessories with the points thing they do. All the reviews seem to be good for the Defy.

I would have gone for the Merlin Malt-R 2012, but it’s now out of stock in my size, and didn’t have fittings for mudguards like the Giant. The Specialized Allez sound to be not quite so comfortable from what I read, more for pure speed. Lots of them being sold on ebay.

I’m too much of a brand snob to consider anything that is obviously from Halfords or Decathlon and I decided that I needed the Tiagra rather than Sora to have proper shifters. Probably cost me a couple of hundred quid …

FYI tomorrow, September 16th, there will be road closures due to the Henley Triathlon, right the way through Christmas Common and up to the A40 by Stokenchurch tower.

No No, use Apple’s Find My Friends. The difference between it any anything else is that you don’t need to remember to run anything on your phone, it just happens as part of the operating system. It also only sends your location when they are looking, so doesn’t waste the battery.

When I first started with SPD I adjusted them all to the loosest setting, but forgot to do one side of one of the pedals. I figured it out when I realised my repeated failing to unclip and toppling sideways was always on the same side.

    Too much road !!

I would suggest you MTFU and do the Stonor descent, then climb back up the road to Maidensgrove and do the Oxfordshire way descent into the nature reserve, turn right at the bottom and follow bridleways all the way through to Cookley Dean. From there you can get to the Dame Alice descent then take the ridgeway. Make your starting point be the carpark at Cowleaze Woods rather the Christmas Common.

The trails are har dand fast at the moment, this weekend should be good. I might see you around Sunday morning.

Not bad at the moment near the M40, the rain this weekend brought back a little bit of mud but only in a few localised places.

    Hi Bradley,

I cycle around Stokenchurch, there are plenty of good loops you can do in 1-2 hours, you can see my routes and poor speeds on Strava, for example this was a cracking route last week

Find my Friends will work great provided she is also using an iPhone or iPad. If she only has a computer then you’ll be best to give her your iCloud password and use the Find My iPhone app to see youon a map.

The advantage of the apple apps is that you don’t need to run anything on the phone, they work in the background and only when someone is looking.

Cycle meter is a great app to log your rides, provide stats, generate gpx etc.

Most of the routes up and down the ridgeway between Stokenchurch and Princes Ris seem ok, but most of the routes through the woods on top of the ridge near Stokenchurch are very muddy. The ridgeway path is more variable, but mainly better north of the M40.

The frost in the mornings this weekend fixed things until it melted.
