Try a used one if you don’t want to fork out 80+ for a new one. There are several on pinkbike from 40 upward and i have seen similar prices on here recently.
Personally i allways go for hope often used, can pick them up here in the £25 range and never had any issues with them.

I have the same fork, same problem. Intend opening them up and taking a look, just not had time to do it yet, to se if the rod could be repaired with a sleeve or welded. Interested to see how you get on.

Thanks the Bionicon C guide looks worth a try. Any other tensioners that work with 3 ring cranks?

It might inconvenience people when a knife could have been handy, but that’s the price we pay.

Bloke I worked with years ago always carried a knife as has been stated the norm when you live in the country. Left the knife behind one day as he was heading for “civilisation” where knives are frowned upon. Came upon a car wreck that had just happened, guy trapped in his car, tangled in his seatbelt, my workmate trying to help him out, car catches fire, reaches in to pocket for knife to cut belt, no knife.

Just a slight inconvenience for the guy that burned to death screaming and thrashing trapped by his belt in the car, at least my workmate didn’t stab anyone in town that day! A price worth paying?

Its still made of polystyrene and plastic whatever price you paid for it

Often thought this, why are they so expensive in the first place? Couple of quids worth of materials squirted ito a mold and retails at £90

Pull them out / push them in with a threaded bolt and assorted spacers & washers. A socket set works well for various size of spacers. Plenty of penetrating fluid around the old bearings if they are stuck. Grease the new ones before you press them in. Avoid the hammer & drift! Look it up on youtube bound to be a vid for your specific frame. Have fun!

Thanks guys for the info, no excuse now not to buy a frame & try on-one for myself.

I’d avoid chiropractors, some cause as much harm as good

I’me with obelix there. Had degenerated discs in my back and one prolapsed in my neck for the last 15 years so tried most things (39 now).

There is no quick fix i’me afraid. Get fit & keep fit. Get the muscles built up to the affected area to support the bad disc. Physio wil give you excercises specific to the area. Do them & keep doing them.

Keep streaching & moving too as with the pain the tendancy is to move less & although it is a disc problem the muscles sease up with the pain and it perpetuates the problem. The discs naturally lubricate with movement, don’t move and they end up like the chain on a bike that has sat outside for a couple of years, ceased solid!

Find a streach & excercise regime that works for you and stick to it.

I find swimming & cycling along witht the excercises keep me mobile but everones back problem is unique to them.

All the best & hope you find some relief from the pain.

“Anyhow, how many other bike companies come on sites like this and give you direct answers?

    Brant – On-One
    Mike – Dialled

You can’t beat stuff like that, and surely it shows they care what customers think and say about their products and act upon what people say??”

@Pickle You took the words out of my mouth. That is impressive. I am slowly being won over.

My 1994 Kona Kilauea is better designed than any of the On-ones I’ve had

I’ve allways been a Kona fan too and can’t get past them. My hardtail is a Caldera and the bonncy one is a Dawg. Allways keen to try what otheres are riding though hence the On-one question.

I put a set of 02 Marz MX4 on a Kona Shred 2-4 for my other boy. It already had disc wheels so not a problem. The Kona’s are quite high at the front end anyway so the Marz fork didn’t change the geometry from the original cheap & nasty one that was fitted.

I would recomend the shred 2-4 if you don’t alredy have a bike for him. They aren’t the lightest but as colp said they will handle anything from xc to DH. It has been through all three of my kids, ridded hard and still going strong.

I went through the whole decent fork for a 24 wheel bike with my lads a few years back. Problem is the v break bosses on most forks are fixed and suit 26″ wheel therefore are not compatible with a 24″ bike.

Some of the old carbon Pace forks had the rim brake bosses clamped on and could be slackened off and slid down the fork leg to suite a 24″ wheel. It worked fine with my sons Scott Nitreous 24.

Thought about roof mount but think the bikes would be too high on an Espace, catch on trees and not be able to park in multi storey’s etc.

Yep loads of room, it’s the grand espace too so even more room. Just done a trip and as i didn’t have the bike rack, managed to get three bikes in the back as well as a weeks worth of gear for five. Would prefer a rack though for easier acess to the bikes, rather than unpack every time we stop at a trail.

i removed the good steerer from a knackered pair of forks first and it worked fine so i was fairly confident it would work the same on the set i was aiming to keep but must admit my heart was racing a bit turning the torch on the decent pair! 😐

I emailed MarkyG82 as this tread was started a while agoe. I have copied the information he kindly provided me with below for others to benifit from.

    2 x 32x40x10mm Nitrile Rubber Rotary Shaft Oil Seal with Garter Spring R23 / TC (32x40x10_TC) = £10.36
These are the the seals I used. Got them from simply bearings. Google for them. They were very helpful when I rang them. The sealant I used was high performance plumbing adhesive type stuff. Any sealant will work I think.
One quite important tip I can give is to smear the stancions with fork oil before fitting back in the lowers. Stops them from sticking to the bushes and wearing out too quickly. I learnt this a few years ago and do it on every fork I pull apart.

Don’t know if you are still checking this thread but i just bought a set of worn RC 39’s and are keen to rebuild them myself so would be interested in any information you have found out.
    Thanks

thats what i was thinking, but thought if someone else had already done it, it would save me bagging up all those o-rings into tiny zip-loc bags! 😕

Maby £17 is ok for a hand full of rubber rings but seemed a lot when i bought 3 sets together. I recently got a pack of 12 top quality nitrile o rings for my spray gun for under £2 posted so the cost of the material obviously isn’t very much.

Thanks guys thats all helpfull keep it coming.

joemarshall yes i do have to slip it on to the spoke first then up on to the nippe but still have to force it on, bit too much for my liking as it is then sticky to remove.

Had a similar problem with a wheel lastnight all the nipples were seased on and would not turn with a key, think some numpty built it with locktight on the treads. Was going to cut my losses and snip all the spokes for a rebuild but then found if the spoke was gripped with a pair of mollgrips as close to the nipple as possible to stop them winding up, a decent screwdriver would shift them from the other side. Also sprayed all nipples with penatrating oil and let them soak overnight.
