For Flipper sake! Thats it, he had pollocks in his throat and he went to Sweeny Cod to have them removed, rather than wait on the NHS.

Depends what you rate as a priority, and how much support you have for your children’s school and teachers. If you don’t give a toss about them, sure, why not take your kids out of school, you can still blame the school if your kids don’t get the results they were predicted, and if they did – result! The extra work and stress the teachers had to do (with no financial recompense for themselves) to catch your kids up was all worth it

My priority is my kids and that is exactly why i take them out for a week every year cycling and trekking on the west coast of Scotland, the ultimate university of life.

In my experience it is the teachers that don’t give a toss about them.

All three of mine have always been at the top of their class, middle one just got 7 straight A’s in his prelims. Spending time with your kids and giving them support will take them further in life than a week in a year of school half of which is make believe anyways- curriculum for excellence, tutor time etc, take all the faf out they are only learning half the time anyway so only missing half a week in reality.

Well that’s my rant………..probably get shot down if flames for it but there you are……yes take your kids out for a week!

There is something very fishy about this thread! You guys are all taking the fish…..oh well might as well join in for the halibut…never know might become a dab hand before long. Just need to come out of my shell and fight the urge to scampi off in the other direction….going to sit down with a cuppa and mullet it over…see if i can come up with a few gaffs of my own. 🙄

My 14 yr old learned a few years back on a cheap Lidl one. Jumps up & down steps and off picnic tables now still using the same one.

I tried but never really mastered it, managed 11 or 12 pedals but never got the control. Started on the grass that way if you fall off not such a hard landing.

Yep things allays going in the ditch on our drive, usually deliver drivers, checking their phone or looking at the next delivery. Last one was worst yet, a lorry with 20tonne load of hardcore for the drive. But he did try and reverse up in the dark with no reversing lights. Blocked it for 16hrs.

Glen Affric SYHA for me. Fantastically remote and very, very basic.

Cycling up at top of loch Affric last year and met a back packer looking for the hostel, he had been walking 12hrs already and looked done in. Poor bloke looked ready to top himself when i said just another 3-4 hrs walk to the hostel! 😯

Awsome, was there last summer. In fact when was that pic taken? Looks like my lot in the small cove on the right they swam every day there for a week.

Ride on my own every day, sometimes with my 15yr old but he is faster than me so it is depressing.

Messing about on trails in the woods is better fun with a few mates.

Good: Germolene Antiseptic Cream, box of plasters, wet pine forest, wood camp fire.

Bad: Poisoned rat under the floor in my office, farmer spreading slurry in fields ALL AROUND MY HOUSE, smell of sick and diesel fumes combined on a rough ferry crossing.

I’ve always had success with claims from them.

I assume i can only make a claim once it ia actually in their system eg they have collected then failed to deliver, not failed to collect?

    Cancel with MyHermes

Problem is i have Highlands & islands postcode and Hermes is the only one that dosn’t want about £50 for collection.

Why, as the buyer, are you in charge of arranging a courier? Get him to drop it at a local pick-up point, I’ve never had any bother that way

He gave me a good deal on the forks and part of the arrangement was i bought a pre-paid label & emailed it to him. Hence my persistance in trying to get them to collect. Done it loads of times before and never had any bother.

I’m currently building up for the Etape Loch Ness in April.

Often driven that road when the race is on and don’t envy the riders with traffic weaving in and out.

I put a set of 80psi slick speed tires on my hardtail and it made an unreal difference on the road over MTB tires.

I’m happy bimbling along at my pace, some folk will be quicker, I will be quicker than some folk!

Couldn’t agree more, my 15year old is faster than me! But i am 42 and balding 😐

Means nothing without details like weather, route profile.

Ok wasn’t trying to brag, just chuffed with the new bike and time for my commute, seems like it wasn’t a bad time.

It is a sunny day, light mainly tail wind about 1mile of climb and the same down hill rest on the flat perfect conditions really.

As i said the best time on my MTB with slick tires was 15min and that was with a good going tail wind. It has taken me 30miniutes with head wind & rain.

Ordered a few small electrical components in the last month and they have all arrived from China in a few days, at a fraction of the cost of anywhere else.

As a bonus they every time they have given a £3 discount voucher off next purchase, despite the fact one purchase was only for £1.50

Also cant beat the “dear valued friend” and other poorly translated Google translator messages, puts a smile on your face every time! 😆

Never had a drive train wear to the point of slippage.

Out of interest how much riding do you do?

I don’t do massive miles but ride every day something like 1,600miles a year mixed road/trail, been about a year since last changed the chain/cassette. What kind of miles are others doing before a change of chain?

    griffiths1000

Once a year – when I change the rest of the drive train.

That pretty much what i have been doing, run it till it is worn so much it starts slipping then change the lot, i lube it every ride which seems to extend the life a fair bit.

I have long term back trouble, creak out of bed every morning, do stretches then 15 minutes on the bike before breakfast by the time i come in I am all suppled up. If i miss the bike ride then i cease up by mid morning. The bike ride keeps me mobile all day.

Would say regularity is the key to strengthening the muscles rather than an occasional intense thrash an the bike….saying that one thing i have learned about bad backs is no two people are the same and what works for one won’t for another, you need to find what works for you.
