    I’ve heard northerners say

    coe- tic

but they would probably say psy- coe- tic as well.

early in my riding career I managed to bend a wheel on a pylon (the bike was attached to the back of my car -oops)

I was on holiday – and the LBS trued the wheel for me – and explained that this was a temporary fix as the rim had been bent – as a result one side of the spokes was v tight, the other fairly loose. However they said I could keep riding until a spoke broke, at which point I should get a new wheel

I kept riding it for nearly a year before replacing the wheel – and a spoke broke as I was swapping the wheel over

getting into a bath that you have failed to check the temprature of

when its so hot that for a moment you can’t actually tell if its burning hot or freezing cold

then you realise its hot as hell itself and your foot and lower leg have turned bright red

    or

    that

orangey coloured whole chilli in a chilli chivken balti I ate once.

no yoghurt, no cold beer, no glass after glass of water could cool those fires (and I like hot food)

serious question for the big dummy and Xtracycle owners

Is a cargo bike loaded up with booze/ a family shop realisticly rideable up a big hill?

I live on such a hill – and am perfectly happy to grind up it on a singlespeed with a loaded up bag with a laptop/ bottle of milk or whatever

Just wondering if its a serious option for me – of if I would find progress up the hill just too slow and it wouldn’t get used enough

my 9 year old daughter has the 24 inch hotrock – but its the slightly higher spec version (hot rock FS I think) – still a hardtail, but a more trad looking frame, slightley nicer components – got about 50 quid off as it was the last of last years

I’m very impressed with it – no issues with stiff shifting here. could probably save some weight by replacing the bars, stem and seatpost though.

“Nonononono. It was dreadful – purile and totally out of tune with the rest of the stuff.”

I don’t agree – best line was something like

“Of course I’ve worked in France so …”

    great stuff

I liked the one where Simon Pegg played a surgeon who gets stuck on the phone and the person on the other end of the line won’t let him get off and back to work

and the ones where you had normal situations like two people who just don’t get on at the office – except ones dressed as Jesus and the other as Satan, or two people down the pub who hate each other, and ones dressed as a cat and the other as a mouse

and the “mr smooth” (also played by Simon Pegg) who would deliver a killer one liner, go to leave the room and then couldn’t open the door

Sorry – can’t do links as I can’t get on You Tube at work – useless post really!

If a dog seems particularly bitey/ barkey – I will usually get off my bike and put that between us. Gives the owner a chance to control their dog (hopefully)

I have shouted and stuff before when I can’t see the owner – not sure its made alot of difference

I hate riding where there are lots of dogs around – I like dogs but they are so unpredictable around bikes. It spoils my ride if I’m having to eye up every dog to see how it will react to me – in my experience the furthur away you get from car parks/ urban areas the less dogs you see – and the better behaved the dogs you see become

I’m most wary of pairs/ groups of dogs

    additional comment

for high speed twisty, wooded, singletrack they are perfect – and better I think than a single very bright bar light (cos the helmet light means you can look round corners)

A super bright single HID or something might be better on a fast, rough, straight descents when you are scanning as far ahead as possible to spot ruts etc

    what does tech mean?

For low speed stuff they are perfect I think – as you can angle the lights separateley you can put one of the bar lights pointing right down at your front tyre.

This really works for slow steep sections, as I find the light on your head points too far into the distance (as you are moving your eyes down rather than your whole head).

For high speed sections you might find yourself wishing for something brighter – but I find the ay-ups good enough

I did get stung for duty -can’t remember how much though, 40 quid maybe (the website told me how much to expect I think)

i had to resort to sanding down some hayes pads once too

i don’t use hayes brakes anymore – the gap between pad and rotor is so small that rubbing seemed to be an almost constant issue.

assuming exchange rates havn’t made them super expensive ay-ups are a good option (I got mine direct from oz)

battery life is excellent (6 hours worth from the mtb set – also do a set with 12 hours worth if you are soloing)

having said that I’d be comparing the price of imported ay-ups with the Exposures (remember you will have to pay duty on the ay ups, and you only get the bill for this later, when your hoping you’ve avoided it)

I built this one up a few months ago – last of the “old” frames I think

not had loads of use yet but I likes it

it was far too close to se7en

the “crazy room” discovery is such a cliche now – it would be better if the killer was so faceless that their entire home was too – why do they always have to have a hidden “batcave”?

adam and joe did a great songwars song on 6 music about it – its probably on you tube if you care to look

um – eat, and keep eating

energy bars, gels, energy drink, malt loaf, peanut butter and jam sandwiches, haribo

doesn’t really matter what as loong as its got lots of cals, you like it, and you keep it coming

If I’m riding for a long time I make aure I eat something every hour – and I have yet to have a “proper” bonk

    all of them

still buying tapes at the time though – so none of them have survived

have a few pulp and blur CDs (and a bluetones one I think)

My mate was working as the editor of our student magazine – so I got free tickets to all the london britpop gigs. enjoyed it at the time but it never felt like anyone was doing anything that was going to change the world

met my wife at a sleeper gig!

george harrison’s wife (patti something?) inspired a few

I think george wrote “something” for her, then she went off with Eric Clapton and he wrote “wonderful tonight” about her

“you’re so vain’ by carlee simon – warren beety (sp?), or maybe mick jagger

how do you sleep by john lennon was written about paul mccartney

how cold is it where you are?

I had similar odd negative pressure behaviour on my pikes the other week during a very cold night ride (sub zero). When I checked them again in milder weather they seem to be normal again – I was all ready to send them to TFT but I am going to just keep an eye on them for a bit
