can’t you get disposable contact lenses and use “normal” riding shades?

My prescription is always changing and it would cost be a fortune if I had to get new lenses for my day to day glasses and potentially 2 or 3 sets of lenses for my “sports” glasses

    how about some celtic soul?

Been listening to “His Band and the Street Choir” and “Too Late to Stop Now” by Van Morrison today. Awesome stuff.

question – how is the “soul” writing applied to the re-painted frame? Is that a sticker too? I’m not sure what it is on my soul – feels more like its painted on? (I don’t know what I’m talking about really)

i think the beatles don’t get played enough – a perception that they are always “on the radio” so they are actually very rarely “on the radio”, the fact that for the most part they have shunned being used in ads etc helps.

The Beatles haters need to buy some CDs and a copy of the book “Revolution in the Head” to put the whole thing into context and look at the music with fresh eyes

Bands I missed out on at the time – stone roses/ smiths/ dance music as I too was a bit too much of a metal kid

also missed seeing Jeff Buckley and Big Star at festivals I was at cos at the time I wasn’t aware of them – love both acts now and I’ll never get to see them (Jeff for sure anyway)

“Age is irrelevant, I have been seeking out alternatives to “pop” music since I was in my early teens! It is all about free thinking, being inquisitive and taking the trouble over something you care about.

I’d say most people listen to what they are fed, are accepting of it and are too lazy because music doesn’t really float their boat.

You go with the hype my friend!

I will continue to seek out great artists.”

You don’t know who I listen to, or why. or whether I searched it out or not. I’ve spent plenty of time in small venues watching “obscure” artists, and plenty of time screaming along at the top of my voice to a “pop” record in my car.

Some stuff is popular because people genuinely like it, most of the greatest, most uplifting songs ever recorded are “pop” records pure and simple

I’m not familiar with any of the artists you mention, and I’m sure they are very good – but in general people are more interested in songs and lyrics than musical virtuosity.

by all means seek out and enjoy the music you like – but moaning about talentless “pop” musicians just makes you sound rather old and tedious

the film of all the pretty horses was directed by Billy Bob Thornton and starts Matt Damon. i think it went staright to video

Matt Damon is too old – the character in the book is 16 – and they miss out the best bits

the bit in the mexican prison – in the book its amazing and the film just ruins the whole thing

    its a damn fine book

I’ve read loads of CM since – the boarder trilogy is amazing (all the pretty horses, the crossing and cities of the plain (i think!))

avoid the film of all the pretty horses – its a load of pony!

i bought one of the new macbooks last year – after starting a lengthy mac vs PC thread on here

I have the cheapest aluminium one – and I love it

Really easy to use – the ilife software is excellent (and you will get the 09 version too, I’m on 08), totally reliable so far. Early days still on that front I guess, but that was my main motivation after getting sick of PCs that die on you and require tedious tinkering to get them working. feels like money well spent at the moment

maybe just check if things like cameras/ video cameras etc are compatible. If things work with a mac they work starightaway – my printer, cameras, router etc all worked straightaway

my phone can only transfer photos via bluetooth, but not via a cable, which is irritating. And I had plans to do some editing of family videos – but my rather old video camera is not mac compatible it seems

    3. knocked off twice by a car, and once by a motorbike (that was the one that sent me to A&E). 1st words of the driver each time “Sorry – I didn’t see you!)

willh is correct – the BBQ flavour comes from the hot fat on the coals smoking and drifting back up on to the food

lighting a “real” BBQ is fun – but the improvement in flavour is largely all in your mind I’m afraid people

A few mentions of iPhones for 200 pounds – sounds like his “plan” was to sell stuff up front, get the money to pay for his US holiday and source the stuff over there for cheap then bring it back to send to his buyers

it went wrong, he spent all the money and now doesn’t have the stuff to send.

if your talking about truly starting from scratch – from zero then I would suggest some of the following – many of them fairly predictable “critics favourites” but they do keep getting on those lists for a reason

    beach boys – pet sounds
    beatles – revolver
stones – exile on main street
    Motown Gold
Van Morrisson – Astral Weeks and His Band the Street Choir
    Dylan – Blonde on Blonde
Neil Young – After the Gold Rush
    Stevie Wonder – Innervisions

My personal favourites – just beacuse I like them

Steve Earle – I Feel Alright
    Teenage Fanclub – Grand Prix
    Lemonheads – It’s a shame about Ray
Bonnie “Prince” Billy – Master and Everyone

I hate the new wave of ads for the banks (they all seem to have one on at the moment) which aim to show how “caring” , “helpful” and “cuddly” the banks are

he currently has one child sitting on the back – and has rigged up a tag-a-long thing which attaches to the back of the wooden deck thing for another older child

liked it – it all came together and made episode 1 make more sense

would like to watch it all again now, think it will benefit from a 2nd watch – but I think I might read the books first
