got the muppets christmas carol on dvd for the kids the other day. hadn't seen it for years

its great – but the ghost of christmas past is weird/ creepy (not sure she is meant top be, just poor old school cgi). I don't understand why they didn't just use a muppet?

coyote – good choice on batman returns, it's a great film and I forgot it was set at xmas

groundhog day I really like – not really an xmas film but snowey and "festive"

    that sheeting is awful

I got some fitted to replace some old corrugated stuff which was full of holes (and might have been poisonous)

no doubt the builders fault – but it kept bucking under the weight of rainwater forming big puddles on the roof – which would then start dripping in. It also had the condensation problem you describe

got a decent builder who replaced it with a tin roof instead – no problems so far (but it irks me that I had to pay twice to get my garage roof sorted)

i think we need to see pictures of this bag

    totally confused by this

back in the late 80s / early 90s when I was growing up Kylie and Jason seemed to be permanently no 1

back in the 70s it was Shawodey woddy or whoever

there was still good music available/ there still is

nothing has changed – who cares? Its not like RATM have ever got to number 1 in the past is it. Simon Cowell doesn't care, its just more publicity for him. Just ignore it FFS. Or get worked up about something that actually matters

for shear length and insanity the final hospital shootout in John Woo's Hard Boiled is good – as is a long scene involving motorbikes in a warehouse

my old kitchen used to get loads of slimey visitors at night – as I was up in the night alot warming up baby milk at the time I found this distressing (used to hide behind draw handles and stuff)

never really sorted until I ripped out the old kitchen and was able to seal up all the holes in the wall behind the units. (note I was going to replace the kitchen anyway)

might be worth removing the skirting boards and looking for gaps/ holes if you can

you have to talk to paypal first

talk to/ e-mail them/ whatever – but get some kind of record, copy of email, person on the phone's name whatever.

If paypal can't, wont do anything – go to your cc company. If you haven't already drawn a blank with Paypal they probably won't help you

I might – I put one through the washing machine, then replaced that with another that has since broke, so I should have at least one charger lying around

mail me though or I will forget to look when I get home

I have one (built up myself from 2nd hand bits though)

it gets locked all day at the station – so to make it evan less nickable i have

removed the head badge (easy to stick it back on in the future)

wrapped an old inner tube round the down tube where the "roadrat"sticker is – this is under the varnish so you can't remove it.

this, combined with a lack of bling bits and a decent lock means that so far it has avoided attention from thieves

stick with v-brakes rather than discs – I have had a disc brake stolen from a previous commuter whilst it was locked at the station

i have a topeak frame fit one – its silver and has a high pressure setting

its very good – much quicker and easier to get up to "proper" road pressures with a frame fit than a micro pump

new nanos are 115 – but have a built in video camera and fm radio

older nanos can be picked up for about 85 quid I think – but can still play video if not record it

I wouldn't risk buying anything else unless they have specifically asked for it

moon is ace – and thank goodness it doesn't descend into another "monster/ creature/ enemy in space movie" and instead maintains the standard right through to a satisfying conclusion at the end.

great effects – uses scale models instead of loads of CGI which just looks soooooooo much better IME

the "its distracting" argument is fine – but you have to then extend the logic to say no music, conversation, sat nav etc in cars

you either accept that people are capable of controling a vehicle (any vehicle) whilst listening to music, or you think that anyone is a moron for having music on (in a car/ bike / whatever)

anyone know if DVDs can be copy protected against things like handbrake?

tried to rip "Moon" last night (ace film BTW), and handbrake kept getting stuck o.5% into the encoding process. wondering if there is some issue with the disc (no problem playing it on laptop or DVD player) – or if the industry have got a way to stop people doing it?

couldn't evan finish that article it was so daft

    – when I wear headphones I can still hear traffic just fine
    – are deaf people banned from cycling?
-is loud music, engine noise banned in cars?
    – the accidents described in the article have nothing to do with headphones

Another said that “iPod zombies are a menace. I saw a bus clip one of them the other day in Victoria who was oblivious to anything around him.”

isn't this the bus drivers fault? What am I supposed to do when I hear a bus or car approaching from behind – dive into the curb for my own safety? Or keep riding in a straight line , maintaing my position in the road and looking over my shoulder before doing anything like pulling out? Like I would do anyway headphones or not?

the catholic church is like a big organisation or business.

These organisations have a vested, collective interest to preserve the business or organisation – a kind of hive mentatlity that puts the need of "the business" or "the church" or "the masons" before the needs of the individual

there was an interesting documentary a few years ago about big business , and how if you look at the behaviour of the business in the same way you would look at a human, your conclusion would be that the business is a ruthless psychopath

you can apply the same argument to large religeous organisations – like the catholic church, scientologists etc.

that guitar tool app looks good – but presumably the tuner would only work on an iPhone (or you would need to buy some kind of plug in mic to make it work)

i've got a 2nd gen – its very good. when my phone contract expires next year I will upgrade to an iPhone though I think

agreed that classified one seems overpriced – I went for s 32gig as I want to have lots of music on mine. I think 8gig is a bit weedy TBH , you'll soon fill that with music/ video/ games/ photos

download handbrake for your PC / Mac (I think you can get a PC version) if you want to convert DVDs to iPOD friendly format

    one suggestion

Can you not engage a (reasonably priced) solicitor to at least send a letter to your partner on your behalf – laying out all the legal things you are going to do to collect the money? Might not cost as much as you think – could get things moving, and she won't know its an empty threat

no advice to give , but very interested to see what other people say

I'm investigating getting a similar charge on my house (with similar conditions as yours) so I can get my divorce / separation moving. The house isn't selling and my wife can't borrow enough to buy me out to the full value of what I want (which of course is a relatively small share of the overall value of the house, seems I've just got to suck that one up). Seems like my only option at the moment
