The Decline Of Western Civilisation Pt II is very funny – the 80s hair metal one

Also "Standing in the Shadows Of Motown" – all about the session musicians behind the motown sound is really good

    DIGG is very good

I'm not really a fen of theirs – but the Metallica one (some kind of MOnster?) is very good. A band falling apart, bring in some kind of therapist to help, therapist starts giving musical input. Its very Tap

There is also a good one about Wilco (think its called I am Trying to Break your heart). Follows the recording of the amazing Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album, and issues within the band at the same time. Seems the best docs are about bands that don't get on very well with each other

the original Tarantino scripted ending to "True Romance" had Christian Slater's character killed in the final shoot out.

Tony Scott changed it to a "look, he's not dead really" ending

Aliens has a fairly happy ending (in that Ripley, the little girl and the bloke from terminator all survive) – but then she wakes up at the start of Alien 3 and the girl and her boyfriend are both dead, and she has an Alien in her stomach. Kind of takes the shine off!

Much smaller scale, but I used to leave a small saddlebag on my commuter with a cheap multi tool, tyre leavers etc. Until one day I came back to my bike to find one of my disc brakes missing and the saddle bag open. I now keep a muti tool in my bag on my person, and no longer run discs on the commuter,

I wonder if the time will change

the old show with J Ross and Barry Norman is on so late sometimes (like 11:30) the viewing figures must be tiny anyway

I'm glad Mark Kermode didn't get it. I like him – but the old format of a single presenter/ critic giving his opinion on the films of the week seems old fashioned.

I imagine the new format will be more like a magazine show – with opinions offered by multiple/ guest critics. Its all in the execution but it could work quite well

yep – i read the comic last week in one sitting, then went to see the film last night

Both are very good – although the comic is darker in places, but I don't think a 100% faithfull version would have been as succesfull on the acreen

Yeah. I wouldn’t mind them if they actually worked and didn’t take all of our jobs, basically. I wouldn’t mind them if they contributed something to this country.

at the moment I am listening to the band "Spoon" like crazy

Apparantly they have been proved to be the best band in the world using some kind of aggregator of all the online reviews on the web – perhaps not the best way to find new music but I went in with an open mind and they are very good

The albums Gimme Fiction and Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga are both particularly awesome

the CSA website has a calulator you can use. It is based on your earnings vs how many nights a year your kids will be sleeping at your place.

I am splitting with my wife – and used this to work outv what I will pay. Its useful because you can give a fair amount, without having to actually go through the CSA which I hear is best avoided due to their incompetence

my wife could never really get interested in cycling – too hard, too steep a learning/ fitness curve for her. I think in order to make any progress you have to accept that its going to hurt.

Now I'm single again I could quite happily ride with a partner who was already into biking before I met them – but the thought of trying to get a novice interested, no thanks. I'd rather spend my riding time riding than coaching someone else (this part always seems especially difficult with couples, many women seem to resent being told how to do things by their partners). You don't have to do everything together

The "Eagles of Death Metal" is quite a good one

The band were in a bar – where a very drunk man was moshing to the jukebox playing "Winds of Change" by the Scorpians

He got heckled for this – to which the drunk took objection – insisting that The Scorpians were "Death Metal"

Someone in the band comes back with the line "If the Scorpians are Death Metal, they're the Eagles of Death Metal"

I'm willing to try the starbucks at work

Lyons coffe bags taste rank to me – and I don't like any instant coffee

Anything that is approaching "real" coffee that I can make at work (withough having to bring a grinder in etc) has got to be worth a try. But if its horrible it will go in the bin just like the Lyons bags did

a power chord is another name for a 5th chord – so a chord made up of just the root and the 5th note. The 3rd is left out

This means the chord is neither major nor minor, and sounds good through a distorted guitar.

The shape I mean is the just the lowest 3 notes of your F and b flat shapes – (by playing the lowest 3 notes only you are just playing the root, the 5th and the root again an octave higher)

Learn the "power chord" shape. Then when you've got your fingers round that and moving it round the neck a world of rock is literally at your fingertips

sprinkle with the cheap distortion pedal of your choice (to cover all your bad technqnique) et voila!

"without you" – versions by Neilson and Mariah Carey are both more well known than the original by UK band Badfinger – both of the writers killed themselves, partly down to issues over money from that song

Marvi Gaye's "Heard it Through the Grapevine" was sung first by Gladys Knight and the Pips

"I Wanna Be you Man" by the Stones was written by Lennon and Mccartney, and sung by Ringo on the first Beatles album

Think more people might know St Ettienne's "only love can break your heart" than Neil Young's original (debateable that one)

I have a 13" alu macbook 13" (rebadged these days as macbook pros). I find 2gb memory plenty fast enough – but the 160g hard drive is a bit on the small side – i only have 18gb free and I don't feel I have much on here yet – so I may need to upgrade that soon.

I use a western digital 1tb My Book for time machine back-ups. I only plug it in once a week or so to back-up, but no problems at all. I got the "mac" version so it was all pre-formatted and ready to go

They don't stay up. I've been stuck in close quarters at gigs with them, and they are constantly having to hitch them up (not too far though, wouldn't want to cover your pants up). I'm willing to let it go on teenagers, they are meant to dress in such a way that old men like us get wound up by it. However I have seen plenty of peole doing it in their 20s and 30s who really should know better

Bob Geldof made his money in television – his production company was behind the Big Breakfast and loads of other very successful shows.

He has a forceful "make it happen" kind of personality which no doubt stood him in good stead in business as well as raising money for Africa

Bono is a total hypocrite, so is Sting – I don't believe Bob Geldof is

early CD releases of analogue albums originally released on vinly often sound very thin compared to the vinyl, and compared to the remastered CDs – example = the recent Beatles remasters

having said that I'm sure there are lots of remasters that sound pretty much the same

old CDs sound quieter because of the buckets of compression applied to modern recordings – compression allows the album to be mastered "louder" but you loose lots of dynamins in the process

I think I heard on 6 music this morning that Ryan Adams hearing is getting better and he may start playing again

The lumi mounts are QR – so I can swap with ease between 3 of my bikes anyway

the Lumi mount does not fit oversize bars so I still need to do it the normal way on the other 2

I use a credit card for everything – but have no credit card debt, everything is paid up at month end

it means I get more cashback each year from both of my credit card providers

    and

if someone does get hold of my card details, and use them for fradulent transactions all I have to do is call the CC company – and they will tell me not to pay those charges whilst they investigate and (Hopefully) refund me.

If the same happens on a debit card – my current account gets emptied and it could be days or weeks before the bank get round to refunding me. I know which situation I would prefer to be in. I only really use my debit card to get cash out the ATM

I've had them in the past but we've only got one now and that doesn't get used much (we've several Linux servers at home as well, so aren't totally a Windows shop).

honestly, what for? Why would a person need several servers at home? I'm not being rude – I'm just curious why anyone would need to have multiple servers at home. I'm not evan sure why you would need one TBH but I'm not a techy type
