I have pancakes a few times a week at the moment, love them!

Top tip, protein shake bottles make pancake batter really fast and easy!

Had thick American style blueberry and chia seed pancakes, with melted butter and brown sugar, for tea last night.  :)

Will have the same tonight, but probably twice as much!

    Great read!

Has actually changed my view on CF production somewhat, I just hope that the factories using the stuff are actually following good practice for disposing of waste – but that can be said for any factory, using any material.

I’ll be looking for a new MTB soon,  I’ve got a fat bike and a hard tail XC bike, so would like something with a decent fork and strength to just do downhill, jumps and trail stuff in the local woods.

I’m struggling to see why I wouldn’t buy an Ebike for this, other than the increased cost over a similar spec standard bike.

Then again, I really like the look of the new Flare Max or BFE. :)

First week that I feel like I’ve really tried this year, and dropped a kg.  Happy with that!    Last week was a bit of a cheeky dehydrated weigh in, so it’s been better than the spread sheet shows.

Hopefully can get near or past my goal if I continue what I’ve done this week.

Another pretty poor week for me.  Still, nearly 2kg down from my xmas weight, so that’s something.

Off to Sufferlandria later to punish myself!

Got the Stages PM about a week ago now.  Set up was easy other than my garmin asking me if I want to calibrate it every time I turn it on.  If I say yes it just says error then works fine anyway.  If I say no it works fine.  Guess other PM may need calibration, but not a factory calibrated one?

Been having fun with it….  If you consider Sufferfest sessions fun!

I did the FTP test, expecting and aiming to hit around 200, but to my surprise I got 260! Very happy with that.

Now if only I weighed 80kg instead of 100kg I’d be doing really well.  5 min power is way down though, so I’m going to improve on that and work extra hard to shed some weight.

Main thing It’s highlighted is that what I consider a “recovery” ride or bimble, is nowhere near slow enough.  Bit hard to do recovery rides/commutes when you live in Sheffield.

I guess psychologists would suggest it’s indicative of other issues

It’s definitely this, I’m just not ready to deal with the issue at the moment, and know it. Just have to try and manage it and concentrate on the weight.

Wiggles, 800 cal a day is nuts! Good work!

Well done guys! some impressive weight loss there. :-)

I’m still struggling, I keep having binge fests – last night I was really fed up so went to the shop for a few bottles of cider and a tube of pringles.

I wish stuff like that was a one off, but it’s about three times a week at the moment, undoing all my daytime dieting and riding.

It’s a massive disappointment after smashing it last year, but staying positive and trying to get back on track!

Went up a tiny bit this week, but no surprised as the weather has prevented much riding, and I’m sure last week was a de-hydrated false low (was happy to take it at the time though! :D ) last weekend was a bit of a binge too.

Sort of good news (I think!), I’ve not eaten meat this year. Didn’t set out to, but just happened with healthy eating, though I’ve decided to continue with it now.

I went for the more expensive stages XT. I’ve had the cash set aside for a while, so not a big deal, just saw that 105 was a bit cheaper.

My main MTB has black XT everything (wheels, groupset, pedals, brakes), so would be a shame to put a different crank on it.

Good point. Found a 175, but it was a more than the 170s that everyone seems to have in stock.

Just put a 30t N/W chainring on it, and take the front mech off if you’re worried about the chain suck issue.

I’ve left mine 2x and the chain suck has stopped now (about 200 km on the bike). Got to admit, now I’ve got 4.8 minions front and back, that 22t granny ring is a god send around here!

Amazon is good for cheap tyres, think the FBF and FBR I’m running where £45 each. They made the bike handle like a normal bike too, and where a big improvement over the juggernauts for me.

    Awesome bike, enjoy it!

Don’t really know what I’d ask in particular, but I live across from a large church, and I’ve never been in or said hello/introduced myself to the people who look after the place.

Would like to introduce myself and see what it’s like inside, but not sure why. More out of interest in the building architecture to be honest.

It’s been a proper messy scramble for me this week to keep near my calorie goal.

I’ve been snacking at work (my co-workers keep bringing in lots of left over chocolate/short bread/toffee etc…, the bastards!), so have been adjusting rides home and what I have for tea to try and compensate! It’s gone to plan less than it hasn’t!

Down to 101.1 kg from 103 though, so I’m pretty happy! :-)

Coming down with yet another cold tough, so this weekend is going to suck exercise wise. :(

I’d say 80% of my mtb rides have been on the fat bike.

Usual riding is natural trails and fire paths.

I don’t think most people are taking it that seriously

You never know, Trump and his loaded mates could read this thread and take pity on us all, and give us what we want!

    Not much to be honest.

I’m of the opinion that you can’t sit and do nothing with your life (without it being very expensive!), so I’d always want to work part time doing something I enjoy.

With that in mind, enough to pay the mortgage off and a bit left to get all the house re-decorated and up to date (at least 120 year old stone house with wattle and dube plaster, and old floor boards all over the place!), then I’d earn any spending/bills/saving money from my part time job.

£100k would do that for me, probably £70k actually. For reference to people above, I’m 32.

    Where have the years gone

I was thinking the same thing this morning on the way to work, not about kids (we don’t have any), but it’s coming up to our 5th wedding anniversary. 5 years! I was a young lad when I met her 10 years ago, and it seems like yesterday!

I’ll be dead soon at this rate!

howsyourdad, at that weight I think you’ll have to work very hard for minimal losses tbh, so don’t expect big jumps. Keep at it though!

Also if you’re fit and healthy, don’t believe the calories MFP tells you that you have burned, it will over-estimate by quite a bit.

I’d drop to 1600 kcals and write off any exercise based kcals burnt that aren’t super high intensity.

    grenosteve

In my experience, you can push through the dizziness you are feeling, and get used to riding without enough carbs/kcals in your system. Molgrips gives the theory behind this above.

Just keep at it any take it slow when you feel weak, after a while you’ll not feel it for general riding, but would probably still crash if you try to do too much high intensity work. If you need to do intervals of more intensive rides, eat enough good food a few hours before.

All I would say when riding essentially fasted, you get super sensitive to high amounts of sugar. You’ll suffer from a sugar crash much worse than if you had other fuels in you body… It’s hard, but try and stay away from the chocolate.

This is what I experienced, may not be the same for you.

I did great this weekend, up till last night when the mrs wanted a pizza, and I folded! Still dropped a bit over the weekend, so I’m happy.

1600 kcals is ok to maintain, you just need to eat the right stuff. If you eat pre-packed “meals” (sandwiches, pasta salad etc..) then you’ll blow through it without taking in much food volume and struggle.

I’ve always found it beneficial to religiously have a mid morning and mid afternoon snack – keeps your blood sugar level and prevents you getting hungry. I have a go-ahead bar thing in the morning, and an eat natural protein bar in the afternoon (on days I’m riding, other days I’ll have an apple of a few oranges).

Took my Dune in Wharncliffe this morning. :-)

Even it was no match for some of the super boggy trails we have at the moment though…

My KM is the smoothest, comfiest bike I own. It’s a 2015 model with a straight steerer and no braze-ons on the fork.

Obviously if your riding rocky paths in the peaks the ridged fork is punishing (can just put a suspension fork on it though), but for singletrack, trail centres, fire paths and a bit of road, it’s awesome. Fun, fast, fairly light and very strong.

We did a 100km ride that took in all of the above, and the KM was brilliant. I’ll not be parting with mine, ever. :-)

    Another (off-topic) thought of mine.

I think it would be good if the police had some sort of equipment that it could give to volunteers, that records both front and rear camera footage, and documents any close passes or speeding relative to the cyclist. Just a small box that fixes to a pannier rack, with GPS, a speed sensor, cameras and an internal battery – all fully sealed so it can’t be tampered with.

After every ride you plug it into a pc and it uploads the footage to the police and re-charges.

The device will have already flagged up any events, so it wouldn’t rely on someone going through hours of footage – a fine letter (similar to current speeding fines) would be sent out automatically to the registered keeper of the car. if there’s an issue with the footage, the driver has to prove it.

The volunteers would have to wear a high vis vest with a speed camera symbol (or similar) on it to let drivers know they where essentially a rolling speed camera.

I know we already have ways to record rides and report bad driving, but the difference would be the public knowledge that anyone with that vest on can get you points instantly, so it may reduce accidents rather than just give a way to prove who was in the wrong – after all I don’t care who’s fault it was if I’m dead!

Drivers don’t slow down for anything but speed cameras in my experience, and trying to hit their wallets is the only way to make them change.

Maybe instead of the police, this could be done by a cycling organisation, and people sign up to get the vest, and pledge to send any gopro footage etc.. of bad driving to the police…

(Disclaimer, none of this is a well thought out idea!)

I always thought there should be web site that clearly points out why usual complaints are wrong, both legally and morally, in big easy to understand letters. Just a single page so it’s easy to follow, with a big disclaimer saying it’s all fact or supported by experts (with links to the evidence if required).

Then we can all just spam the link in reply to any stupid article or comments, until it sinks in!

Don’t know why but I though first weigh in was today, not just the starting weight! Anyway, down to 102.2 from 103kg, so updated my starting weight.

Probably should have banked that 0.8kg for next week though!

Who wants the honour of setting it up? Rob? This is your gig after all.

Not freaking likely! I’ve got enough to do already with babysitting adults who can’t feed themselves properly (I’m allowed to joke about that cos I’m one of them :P)

Fairysnuff. I’ll set up a strava club for anyone interested.

Last year my cousin (lives in Alabama) got tied up with an electric cord on her bed, by a neighbour who broke in, while he robbed her flat. She got free of the cord while he was in the kitchen, grabbed her gun and shot him dead.

we’re not that close so I’ve not asked about it, just saw a link to the news story on FB and people asking if she was ok, but get the feeling she would have been in a very horrible situation if she hadn’t got free…

No idea if that means guns are good or bad, but I’m glad she had one, and I’m glad I live in a country where they are very rare.

TBH, I didn’t even know any of my “American” family owned guns until that day.
