You can be overweight and healthy/happy….

I’m overweight. I ride to work 3 or 4 days a week, and go out on the MTB every weekend. I’m fitter than the 19 yearold, 9 stone wet through, junior kid we have at work, whos main hobby seems to be chain smoking…

I could eat a lot healthier, but lifes too short.

If you have qualifications they want experience, if you have experience they want qualifications, and if you have both then you’re overqualified. Can’t bloody win.

This is because of recruitment agencies. I have the same issue, I have a lot of experience, and I’m very good at what I do. I can do the same job as a graduate easily, but would probably expect less pay. So a good investment for any company, and I’ve found companies doing their own recruitment have always given me a chance.

But the recruitment agents say no. No degree, no consideration for the position.

I think there are a lot of misconceptions about university graduates, and walking into high paid jobs.

Unfortunately, although you will have the correct training, you won’t have experience to put that training to good use for a year or so. even within each individual company, you have 6 months or so to learn how they do things.

I’ve worked with a lot of graduates, and apprentices. I can honestly say a good apprentice after 3 months does as much meaningful work as a graduate. It takes a few years for the graduate to pull ahead and start putting their knowledge to full use without being helped.

(this is in my industry BTW – design, but I know it’s different for doctors and other more specialist graduates)

It’s a foot on the ladder and he should take it for now, it will be easier to get the real job he wants if he’s already employed.

Are some of you having a laugh or what? Being loud enough so your neighbours can hear you* at any time is not on, especially when you know they could be trying to sleep.

I would be mortified if any party I had would be loud enough to wake my neighbours, especially if it was 1.30!

I don’t see how it matters how many times a year it is either, it shouldn’t happen.

*excluding doing noisy DIY or something like that in the middle of the day.

My parents have the same problem, so I sympathise strongly.

I really don’t see how people make the decision to have a late night, loud, drunken party in a semi-detached or terraced house, then think they have a right to do so… go to a pub like normal people.

Have you looked at Superstar Hubs? I’m considering some for a LB carbon rim build… Cheaper than Hope, and UK based for parts…

    Not sure of reliability?

As per the second post, if your finding fun, rather than trail flattening ability to be more important, forget the full sus and have a go on a rigid.

For me, 29er rigid steel, big tyres, is more fun that a full sus. But I’m enjoying the extra speed of the full sus right now.

I do still think there’s nothing in it between 27.5 and 26, unless you’re Ratboy etc… And tenths of a second count. 26 is the same for us mortals.

I hate how you’re treated as an ignorant out cast if you don’t like football…

I don’t like it, its boring (IMO), and you can’t talk me into liking it! get over it!

I’m also baffled why football players get paid so much.

Find a local cycling club that runs events.

Their events secretary should be able to offer advice, especially in your local area.

^Crankboy, I forgot about that until you mentioned about names. I’ve had a few where I’ve been having a conversation and suddenly I couldn’t put a single word together, just like someone had removed English language from my brain. These where than followed by auras and the headache/nausea…

Not had one like that for years and years though.

I think as many have said, the ultimate cure is sleep (in a very dark room).

If you want a 29er orange full sus bike, go for it. The segment wont be any different to us mortals IMO, and isn’t worth an extra £600.

Looks like a very nice frame to me.

I think people should be able to do what they like, including smoking. Then again, I don’t know any smokers that want to smoke, they all seem to be trying to quit and failing.. I’m sure deep down no wants to be addicted to anything.

Probably be easier to just ban it, considering how bad it is for your health. But where do you stop? Ban caffeine? Ban sugar? That would suck!

I think banning it in public is a good move though… Its quite horrible getting a lung full of it while walking past someone smoking. I know smokers may think that’s being OTT about it, but its not nice for those who aren’t accustomed to breathing it.

Stress and certain food sets me off. Usually starts with pins and needles in one side of my tongue, or I go blind in one eye, then the headache and nausea starts.

I’ve been on a lot of meds for it, but nothing worked. 2 “neurofen migraine pain” and 2 paracetamol can hold it off for a few hours, but only sleep cures it really.

My mom also has them, but she has them every other day at best. I don’t know how she functions at all. They wipe me out and then make me feel crap for a few days.

I’ve heard of acupuncture working from quite a few people though.

About to top the story!!!!! I bought a car, insured it, and drove with the mrs in the passenger seat, for about 300 miles over two months. then took my test and passed! Only just, but still passed. I was very chuffed i passed with no propper lessons, but then again I had been riding a motorbike for 11 years, so knew how to use the road etc..

Seriously though, 9 months later and I’m only just feeling like a decent driver who can operate a car as well as I can motorbike. You hear a lot of horror stories about the test, but It’s actually quite easy if you’re prepared. I studied this site –

Tips for Passing the Driving Test

And just did what it said.

As for insurance, see if you can talk someone (with loads of no claims) into being a named driver?

I don’t even know how manufacturers can sell a car/bike that’s not limited to 70!

Come on, I’m sure you can do better than that! 1/10

    Good one! (sarcastic)

Although I have no idea why you think that to be honest.

I do love a good “I can justify speeding” rant on the internet.

I love a good “I haven’t actually read any of the thread but I’m going to be judgemental anyway” rant on the Internet.

The OP has been charged with driving at 35mph. He asserts that his speedometer was reading under this value. Assuming that the OP isn’t mistaken and that he doesn’t have an illegal speedo, the the charge is false. This is the crux of the OP.

Without knowing the accuracy of his speedo (and his eyes / brain), whether he was actually still breaking the limit or not is pure speculation.

I was talking about the question of speed limits needing to be higher due to car advances etc… as per some post in this thread…

£800 for full bike http://www.orangebikes.co.uk/shop/factory/closeout/2014_diva_small_deep_purple2 and then £200 on a spa!

Good catch, I’ll show her that. Decent fork and big wheels should help her on the rough stuff.

My wife is selling her Orange 5 diva which is XS. She’s 5’5″ and I always thought the frame was a little cramped for her. E-mail in profile if you’re interested in buying.

    Sent you an email!

    This at CRC…

    Could be a contender… I wouldn’t get the chance to build a bike up though! :( :P

I’m not entirly sure a 16″ bike is small enough for her… I think thr myka is 13.5 or 14!

I’m not sure like is the correct word for the frame… Acceptable is closer…

I’m a bit nervous about upgrading the forks and bits, only for her to then struggle to upgrade the frame without needing new forks etc.. again…

^ This was the other option, but the frame really is bad…

I was also hoping for some good full sus 26er deals to be about, but no one seems to have anything!

How about a kinesis frame? I had an Xc pro2, and it was a really nice XC bike. I’m not sure if the new 29er frame has the same lightness/carbon bits though..

Edit: just checked the website, unfortunatly Kinesis are more into 120mm travel trail bikes now, rather than the XC weapons they where making a few years ago.

    I can’t approve of Labyrinth’s use of dwarves…

They’re at the correct height so any time the camera focuses on their face, bowie’s shaft is in full view!

Passed my car test earlier this year (although I’ve been riding a motorbike for 11 years).

My (very) crap car as a learner, about £400 a year. The day I passed my test, £980 increase…. for the remaining 9 months! I cancelled and went with an unknown company as they where back around the £400 mark.

Out of curiosity are there any race classes nowadays that accommodate superchargers/turbos?

Not that I know of… But I’d love to see a MotoGP rider take it out and see what the lap times are compared to a GP bike.

I’m not sure if it would be accepted in the TT or not either??

I never got the KX500/CR500 thing… As a super moto on the road, I can see it (and I’m sure it would be a hoot), but that engine in an off road bike! 8O You’d ahve to brave/skilled!

I guess they where most popular in America where you have lots of desert/open spaces to let them loose…

I’m fairly sure it’s got a lack of fairing because that engine needs all the cooling it can get!

Many roads, but try the village on the approach to Holm Moss for example. I’m talking roads narrow enough so if a car come towards you in the other direction, you couldn’t ride two across…

Not in big long groups (don’t have issue with that), just in small groups of 3 or 4, but lots of groups spaced out. There seems to be more and more people out in just 2 or 3 people groups riding side by side in the last year.

I just think sometimes people think “I can ride two across, so I will and I’m not moving for anyone!”, even if the situation doesn’t call for it or get any advantage from it.

I also have a big problem with too many cars parked on the roads, but let’s not start that. ;)

Personally, when cars come up behind me, I will not be the guy stuck out in the road and will always pull in behind my mate. Because I don’t see why I should make an overtake more difficult, and I don’t feel that safe out there.

    just my opinion though.

I wouldn’t go into any shop expecting to lend anything without paying.

The shop is there to sell, if you’re at a trail centre and need a special tool, I’d sell you one or charge you for the workshop to do it.
