Top Gear is one of the most entertaining shows on TV. I was enjoying this years show too.

I like Clarkson, he’s a ****, but I like him, and if you take his anti-cycling rants, or any other “non-pc” rants with a pinch of salt (as I suspect the show/he intends you to), he’s very entertaining.

I can’t think of any other shows I actually watch on the BBC to be honest…

You’re all being a bit harsh on this one, I think.

Selling something you don’t own is wrong, pure and simple. The way it was refunded is also very dodgy and leaves you open to being ripped off.

I’d treat it as a scam, and get paypal involved now.

A little phrase popped into my head from Roadcraft:

‘always being able to stop in the distance you can see to be clear’

As a lifelong motorbike rider, this is how I choose to ride a mountain bike. It’s not fast, but it keeps you safe*.

(* that’s my excuse for being so slow anyway! 😉 )

Aren’t the shadow cabinet and the media always keeping the leading party in check, and not allowing any major changes without a massive public outcry?

This to me means no matter which party is in power, they will roughly follow the same path, and it doesn’t matter who’s in charge, as nothing will really change in the end.

Went last weekend, it’s quite dry actually bar a few puddles, although I found the hard packed surface, filled with smooth pebbles, quick slippery!

Get out on the monkey trail too, it’s a bit more technical and fun. All is very well sign posted from the carpark.

I thought it was a fun day out to be honest.

Custom made 3-D printed sex toys?

Probably shouldn’t have clicked on that in the office…

Why do people get bent out of shape about slaughtering a new born/young cow, but not a full grown cow? it’s all the same isn’t it?

Things have to die for us to live, that’s life. just be glad you’re top of the food chain and stop moaning. 😉

(To be fair, I think if you want to be veggie, good on you if it makes you feel better.)

Isn’t there a trail centre near Scarborough? I can’t remember the name?

    grenosteve

    Thanks,

Not worried about the tech in terms of being able to ride it, but if I can ride it for the duration of the event!

Think I need to just ride trail centres and steeper stuff more often. I’ve been plodding along green lanes and fire paths with the odd bit of single track and just getting the distance in. Find it a lot harder on proper single track where you need short sharp busts out of corners and over small steep rises though!

More just out and back for now, staying over when it’s warmer!

    Thanks, I’ll check those out.

I like Sherwood pines, I go a good 5/6 times a year, but would like to try somewhere new.

I don’t mind climbing, I think it was more the short sharp busts around Cannock that did me in, plush chasing people. 😀 I’ve been working on getting my distances up since xmas, but not really worked on going faster. Tend to just plod away rather than haring about, but don’t mind a good climb.

Sandwich bags have always worked for me.

Got one of those blue freezer bags at the min, been going since about November.

Think I’d die a little inside if I had to fork out for something especially…

So, any singletrackers want some banded 16″ wheels for your T4?

I’m selling the orange wheels, white wall tyres and stainless hub caps all together (check earlier in the thread for photos).

Going to take them off tonight and take some nice photos. let me know if you would like me to email the pics to you.

Looking for £600, open to sensible offers. Email in profile.

    Cheers,
    Steve.

It’s hard to justify logically (I’ve tried on many occasions!), so don’t try looking for advantages.

If you want a new bike, get one just because you want one.

It’ll feel nice and new (which is a bonus) and will make you ride it more, but it will still do the same job as your current (very nice) bike at the end of the day…

2001, 130k miles, £ not silly. Its been well looked after.

Before anyone says I could have got a better transit, I didn’t want a transit. 😛

Think I’m going to leave it as is for a bit (probably until the novelty wears off!), then look at getting some standard steel wheels painted black, the ones I have are rusted to hell and dinted up so not worth saving.

At least the bimmer in the garage is aircooled

Sure is. 🙂 Older than me and nearly 100k on it, but it’s still going strong.

It been lowered 80mm… not as low as the Mrs’s stock TT, so no issue with speed bumps.

In two minds about the wheels… they look good in the flesh (much better than the photos – so much so I only just convinced myself to go look at it to begin with!), but they are mint with new continental tyres on. worth quite a bit on ebay I reckon! Plus the original wheels have new tyres too.

The hub caps are proper polished stainless, the back left was made slightly smaller so the side door opens. 80

Option 3 is paint the bonnet and wheels black!

When by motorbike engine started acting up, I bought the bits (some new, some second hand) and fixed it. Then overhauled the cards and got it running sweet.

I have packets of ‘super rice’. not sure who makes them, as I don’t have a packet handy. Takes 12 mins to microwave though, but quite nice. I keep meaning to bring in some kind of meat to have with it, but always forget/can be bothered.

At this moment in time, I’d buy a road bike without discs over on with discs. I think it’s progress for progress’s sake.

I’m not bothered a lab test will tell you that you get x amount of extra modulation and power. Rim brakes have been fine on road bikes for many, many, many years.

One day, there wont be a choice, and that’ll suck because it’s another old standard that’s being fazed out to make money on new bits.

Soak the end of the crank in some kind of penetrating fluid.

Take the pedal body off as above, then see if a local engineering company will weld some scrap plates to the axle, or grind it flat on two sides for you.

Clamp in vice and give it all you’ve got.

With those cracks, I think you’ll be lucky to get it out without tearing up the threads though…

Agree with Binners. They’re all the same, and I doubt it will matter much, if at all, to us lot who gets voted in.

Until a leader shows up who isn’t full of shite and is brave enough to make some real changes, I’m not voting for anyone.

It’s about time hope moved to mineral oil like Shimano have.

Shimano brakes don’t need bleeding every year to keep the seals happy.

I would like hopes, but I can’t say they would be better than the XT brakes I’m running now, especially as they’re quite a bit more expensive.

I love my superlight, I’m guessing an orange would just be a slightly heavier, slacker, bit stronger/stiffer version.

I’d have one, despite the grilling they get on here.

I’ve had one for 6 months now.

It a really nice bit of kit. I can’t compare to a reverb (never had one – that hydraulic cable is a shite idea and you hear more stories of them breaking than any other post) , but it’s light years ahead of any of those cheap t-mars etc.. versions.

It’s been covered in mud/grit on almost every ride, but is just as smooth as the day I bought it.

The bar lever is great, although it does send the cable straight forward and creates quite a big loop of cable out front. I’ve seen photos of some people using a v-brake noodle to make it neater.

Only issue I have is it has developed a tiny bit of side to side play, but nothing that bothers me. One day I’ll get around to tightening the collar as mentioned above.

I also think dropper aren’t quite as comfy as a standard seatpost for big days in the saddle. They have a lot less flex built in when compared to a decent normal post.

Overall I’m glad I went with the Thomson instead of anything else, and would easily put it top of the pile when it comes to droppers.

    Dawes Galaxy.

They aren’t that fashionable, and look a bit out dated, but they almost have legendary status for touring.

Go for the best frame material you can get for the 1k budget (853).

Above all else, it needs to be comfy, fit the rider well and be able to carry stuff.

I used to impulse buy stuff all the time, not so bad now.

last one was a Hope Chainset pre-order. unfortunately Hope took so long to get it ready to ship, the impulse wore off and I cancelled.

If I fancy a computer game, I’ll just buy it, but anything else I’ll consider it for a week or so.

Well before 25 I had no political views what so ever. Come to think of it, I still don’t to be honest.

I don’t think anyone of my class will ever get what they want from the country, no matter who gets voted in. You have to do what ever the big wigs want, no matter who they are.
