As above, it’s foxes you need to worry about, not the cat. I would just bring them in at night.

Hey grenosteve, saw you drive past my place the other day, quite the recognisable vehicle that T4.

Sure is, especially when it’s leaving a trail of diesel behind it! 🙁

Looking forward to watching the racing, it should be ok if we just have light showers this week instead of a full on downpour!

I’ve not been on steel city since the re-surface, but the pub run is silly fast now. 🙂

    Nice bike.

I’m temped by the new 300/400/500 cc bikes. I’ve had 180bhp, 1200cc bikes, and while they’re fun, you cant use them and they’re expensive to run.

    Wouldn’t mind a blast on a 390 duke.

Try going to the specialised concept store. They may do you a good deal on an S-works if you want the full bling version?

Specialized Epic. That’s what I would get. Any of the versions would be ideal, but the more you pay, the lighter they get. Much faster bike than a tallboy I would think (Santa Cruz make bikes tough – more trail than xc).

    Edit:

I’d go for this one –

Hope vision 2 light. still going strong after 4 years of commuting and night rides.

Other than that, my xt chainset has outlasted 3 bikes!

On slippy or wet ground the limit becomes the traction of the tyres anyway and if a human could overcome that then it’s a bit of a non issue, as the assist is only there when pedalling you’re essentially in the same position as a human sat there pedalling and spinning anyway without moving, at which point you would normally topple over (or stop pedalling) whether assisted or not.

Good point, how do you tackle slippery climbs on it? Surely it must be much harder to feed in power to back wheel and feel how much grip you have?

Hmmmm, Initial reaction is to hate them, but on more thought, I think it can’t hurt.

I’ll reserve final judgement until I ride one, if I ever do, to see just how much of your riding it does for you.

I can see an e-downhill bike being popular, and others being good for the injured, ill or lazy, but for me, I couldn’t accept any of them as a proper bicycle. A proper bicycle is human powered, and has a human engine only.

Not saying it isn’t useful or acceptable, but it isn’t a proper bicycle in my book.

    Overall, yes! 🙂

We live in a great country, I wish that Westminster bit would **** right off sometimes, but we have great lives and many opportunities to make them even better.

I can’t do that – if I realise I hate it, it has to go.

I’m like that with MTBs, but I cant bring myself to spend £500+ on a new commuter when the Cannondale does the job… badly, but it does the job.

I would do the same! Then probably keep it as a spare until I bin it in 20 years time when I finally clear the garage out.

And as a result of learning proper Roadcraft, at 2am, on an empty motorway, in a car that can do 155mph, perhaps, just perhaps i could maybe push the boat out and drive at ooh, say 75mph?

The LIMIT is 70! God damn it, look up the word “limit”! 😉

There’s always going to be people who think 70 is too slow, and others where 70 is clearly too fast (OAPs, new drivers, people towing caravans or heavy loads). The limit has to be somewhere, and I’m sure a bunch of people cleverer than us lot came up with it.

You are just as stupid thinking as long as you are doing 40mph you are ok.

No one thinks this… but you’re much, much, much, much, much more ok than at 180.

Shred, Thanks that’s what I was after.

I found lots of other “cycling” insurers, but the small print always restricted the individual item value to £500.

Doing 180mph in a 40mph is stupid, but it is not “dangerous” necessarily (as it is the road conditions dictate risk, not the speed limit)

The likelihood of, and severity of a crash at 180mph is far higher than at 40mph. It is dangerous, even if you’re the stig on a straight road.

You want to make your own mind up what’s dangerous and not while riding your mounting bike in the middle of a forest, go for it, but when you’re in charge of 2 tonnes of steel that can not only kill you, but any one around you, maybe you should follow the experts advice and stick to the speed limit!

One day last week I decided to add 2 tour climbs into my commute home across Sheffield – Jenkin Road and Jawbone Hill (Oughtibridge Lane).

I take Jawbone almost every day, but adding in Jenkin really made it a tough ride! That hill is one steep b*stard!

Anyway, the next day as I was tired from the longer commute, I stopped half way up Jawbone hill and stood at fence to a local farmers field, and watching lambs chase each other around for 15 mins.
Then at the top I stopped and crossed over to a viewing area, where you can see over all of Sheffield.

I don’t tend to take the time to stop and enjoy where I am, I’ve usually got my head down concentrating on riding, but it was about the most sunny day we’ve had so far, and I really enjoyed just chilling out by myself. 🙂

I like Guy, but what he’s done (or not done, maybe) is fairly wrong in my book! 180 on any public road is madness, and if he gets caught, it should be jail time.

I don’t think you could(or should) do 180 on open bits of the isle without getting a talking to from the plod. The limit is the limit, not the safe speed at which you can drive that section of road, and 180 is dangerous driving no matter if the road has a limit or not!

You don’t have a human right to drive a car, it a privilege, and one you have provided you’re trained adequately and follow the rules of the road (highway code). Regardless of how the limit was set, you have to follow it. Don’t and your in the wrong*! Simples!

(*try arguing in court that the limit was too low, and see where that gets you!)

A kid at school once asked me how to bunny hop… I had no idea, I just did it. Told him to hook one foot under his pedal and pull up, which kept him busy for a few hours. 😈

I find it really hard to explain how to do stuff to other people, especially jumping. Stay loose is the best advice I got! Just keep trying and it’ll come good.

This. Had a 360 since it’s release, but went for the PS4 this gen, for a change and because I like souls games and wanted Bloodborne.

I had the same issue through 2 sets of bearings (some from a local bearing supplier, and some from ebay, but both “high quality”) when I went from QR to 15mm.

As soon as I put in proper bearings from hope, the issue went away.

Use proper bearings, and the proper tools, is my advice.

I like a good downhill section with jumps and berms etc.. but big climbs, on or off road, are the most rewarding bit of cycling for me.

Did a nice half-road half-byway climb at the weekend, a good 12k in length, and nearly 400m up to one of the highest paths in the peak. 🙂 The downhill wasn’t amazing, but I enjoyed the 20 min rest at the top while I enjoyed the amazing views (and tried not to be blown away!).

You need to ride big hills to see these places…

I do get the impression a lot of riders shown up trail centres and only do downhill runs, and just crawl up or push up the up hills, as a means to an end. Each to their own though, as long as your having fun. 🙂

    organisers and UCI fail IMO.

It shouldn’t be the riders decision to jump that barrier, or have to slam the brakes on in such a big bunch.

I doubt any of them had a good look both ways with their racing heads on….

You can see one guy get caught on the far barrier!

If it’s a closed race course, that should include trains as well as cars.

Why can you buy a house from the council cheap anyway?

I don’t get why it seems necessary for everyone to own a house, and that the tax payers should help low earners have this necessity…

Surly owning a house is a privilege for those who can afford it?

Those who can’t, can rent cheap enough from the council… The council would have loads of cheap, rentable housing if they hadn’t sold it all off for peanuts 25 years ago.
