I’ve got gatorskins on my bike at the moment.

They have more grip than I’ve needed TBH, never slipped over anything. Seem fine on firepaths too.

They are 32c size though, so probably much better than any 25c tyre in terms of grip….

I did Darksouls and Darksouls 2 on the 360 after many hours of honing my skills, but the new version of Darksouls 2 on the PS4 has pushed me too far. The red guys that spawn just hand me my arse every time, and the novelty has worn off now… maybe one day, but I doubt it!

    Also, any megaman game!

I guess only liking the earlier films is a bit of an age thing, and there’s a bit of the “hate the prequels” bandwagon-ing going on.

I thought all of them where ok to be honest and would watch them all in story order, but I didn’t grow up watching the early 3 films, so didn’t experience all the hype at the time.

Think I only really watched the early films after I played Knights of the Old Republic on my PC (great game and cheap these days!).

    Well said Copa.

Companies often expect an additional level of commitment above “doing what you are paid to do”, but when the shoe is on the other foot and you need a favour or some slack cutting… well I’m sure you know how that goes!

Kit is the key. You can cope with any bike really if you’re dressed in full waterproof kit. As long as it’s all waterproof, you’ll be fine even in the depths of winter. Once spring comes around, you’ll want goretex as you’ll cook in cheaper waterproof kit…

Pinlock visors are the best invention ever!

Best advice is just to dive in and give a go and enjoy your commute every day!

    A VFR 800, 2003 14k miles.

Not my kind of bike, but it was going very cheap from a family member who’s given up riding – so cheap it would have been silly not to have it (that’s what I’ve told myself anyway!).

Just pepper and eggs for me. 2mins in the “nuke-o-tron” at home.
Goes nice on brown toast with a bit of chili jam on the side. 😀

Over training can have you feeling crap for a while, rather than a few days.

I had grand plans to do the 24/12 12 hour solo, even though I haven’t rode much for a good 5 years. Had a good Jan and Feb this year, lost 2 stone and was really getting fitter, but in March I didn’t loose any weight and seemed to be stuck in one gear no matter what training I tried to do to up my pace. April I was shattered and stopped getting PBs on my rides, even commuting 10 miles was very hard work, and then I had a chesty cold all through May. 🙁

I’ve put it down to trying to diet and up my mileage at the same time. I’m sure the May cold would have gone in a week or so if I hadn’t over done the training. Don’t think I’m back to where I was at the start of April even now!

Ok, the “I hate cars” crowd just seems to be trolling…. What about if your motorbike was parked up and someone leaned against it?

I’d be pissed (car or bike), it’s disrespectful at the very least, regardless of how precious I felt about the car/bike in question.

Sounds bad, feel for you and anyone else that’s gone through this.

I don’t have kids, but all my closest school friends (people I grew up with from nursery right through to the end of high school) where in prison or dead when I last heard anything about them, all because of drugs. I was too scared of my dad to ever get too involved besides trying it a few times.

I think people are right to say don’t give up on him, and maybe a short stay in prison may change him for the good, or the bad… But I’d think hard about letting him back in your house whatever the outcome. No matter what he needs/wants or what happens, you’ve two other children that must be kept away from the type of violence and hardship, as you want to do everything in your power to keep them from the same path.

The friends I mentioned above, as far as I know, the younger brothers and sisters where following suit when I broke contact with them…

Good luck to you though, and I hope it all works out in the end.

A good alloy frame is better than a crap steel frame, and a good steel frame is better than a crap alloy frame. I’m sure it’s just personal choice.

I’m sure carbon is the same, but it’s too expensive for me to want to find out!

    I’ve got two house cats.

They bring me patches of super-embedded white fur to whichever bit of furniture they’ve spent the entire day sleeping in/on, and that’s it. And they run away from the guinea pig, so I think hunting is out of the question…

Pathetic as cats go, but they are super friendly.

Someone has to make hard choices… If no one did we’d all be in trouble. Also, how much do you think the country should spend investigating each case and coming up with that choice?

That said, I hope the guy is ok.

If you have a van then the limit may be 60, depending on how the van is registered…

As for motorbikes, if you went through at over 100 on a regular basis they’d start chasing CCTV and find you. I remember a story on MCN of a guy who went through a camera at 120+ while flipping off the camera. They went to all the peoples homes who had the same bike (model/year/colour) in the area until they found him. I think he was punished quite bad for it…

Hope it’s your bag. Well done for helping someone out, I’m sure they really appreciate it.

If someone did steal your bag, it would add moral contrast to the situation between the twattery of the thief, and kindness of a guy who helped a stranger! Extra karma for you! 8) *

I used to strive to be exceptional at my job. Worked long hours, put lots of effort in, took on lots of extra duties without being asked…

Then I realised that despite my hard work, your boss just sees you as another worker, and when it comes time for a company to do you a favour, instead of you always doing it a favour (working extra hours etc…) you get the same treatment as the guy who tosses it off all day and doesn’t seem to take work terribly seriously.

So work is work now, I do what I’m contracted to do and nothing more. I’m less stressed and happier and look forward to home time each day.

There’s more important things than work…

I’ve not been on here for a month or so, and it does seem quiet…

I somewhat (completely!) failed in my attempt to train for twentyfour12 (lost 2 stone from December to March, then didn’t loose anything from March to the end of May, and have had a freaking cold for 6 weeks – think I over did it early in the year!), and have been having a sulk for the last month and staying away from here and my bike. 😳

It was getting a bit negative at one point towards the end of winter, but reckon everyone is out enjoying the good weather and cheering up now!

I’ve run out of reasonable upgrades… all I have left is replacing good stuff with silly expensive stuff that won’t make the bike any better, just more expensive to fix/replace!

Almost bought some hope cranks for it, but decided my XTs are just as good in the end.

Buy a van! that’s what I did. Once I’ve bought all the T4 related tat and upgrades for it, and converted it into a stealth camper, I’ll have to buy a helicopter or something…

Are you mad! That noise is why you buy a hope hub. 🙄

    grenosteve

You only need the special tools for the rear, and pro2 and pro2 evo aren’t the same.

You can use sockets on the front, and the free hub, but not the main rear hub bearings (well you can, but it’s easy to knacker the bearings!) –

The bearings press fit into the hub shell, and onto the axle at the same time. So if you use a socket, you’re only driving in the outer race, and relying on the bearings to drive the inner race over the axle. This can easily damage the bearing – I know from experience.

You need the two on the right for the rear –

They slide over the axle and the flat end pushes in the outer and inner race of the bearing together.

I hate journalists that have that hard line approach to every interview.

I once watched Paxman tearing someone in the NHS a new one because response times where slightly below target. It boiled my piss! This guy works in the NHS, saving lives, and I’m sure he’s doing the best he can in a difficult job, and he has to be talked to like a piece of shite on someone’s shoe, on national TV, by a dick in a suit who’s not done any work to save peoples lives! And just let the guy answer the first **** question with being interrupted with another one, you massive dong!

They think they’re superheroes on a mission to liberate the truth from anyone silly enough to talk to them, as quickly and aggressively as possible. Self righteous, pompous bastards!

Rant over (is it home time yet? I’m bored! 😛 ).

Hose pipe off most of the mud – muck off – brush everything with a soft nylon brush – rinse with hose pipe – leave to dry – lube chain and stanchions.

If its really muddy I’ll clean the chain before the final rinse too.

    Try buying the proper bearings….

I tried wholesale, Chinese and cheap ebay bearings in my pro2 hubs. They all lasted about a month, if that, before developing play. Bought proper hope bearings and they’ve been going for well over a year now.

My hope (stainless) BB has just started to click and run rough on the non-drive side. It’s 8 years old and has been in four bikes! I’ve got a proper hope bearing to put in when I get around to it.
