Had a Pug 208 gti a few years ago and had no end of problems with it. They even replaced the cylinder head under warranty but still had issues with sensors putting the engine in limp mode. Decided to replace it before the warranty ran out! We’ve had a few Pugs over the years without issues but this car put me off and never again. Aside from this and the driving position, it was a great little car, though!

used to love riding round the PB/Hankley/Thursley but now a distant memory, well not that distant as we only moved away yesterday (Thursday)! One last walk around Hankley with the dog on Tuesday and almost wished I wasn’t moving to Herefordshire. Enjoy it!

Yeah, check the projection. I reprojected from wgs84 (lat/long) into EPSG 102005 (USA contiguous equidistant conic) otherwise the distance will be in decimal degrees.

    They’re wildlife verges:

    Wildlife verges
We have selected verges across the county known as wildlife verges, which have been identified as having wildlife of particular interest. Roadside verges can provide a habitat for many rare species of wildflowers and mammals, which need to be protected.

To help maintain these habitats we make sure that we do not normally cut our Wildlife verges between 1 March and 31 August. This allows for the wildflowers to seed.

The wildlife verges are marked with small yellow indicators. These help our grass cutting team to identify them correctly.

You can’t just name a house. The local authority is responsible for street name and number under various Public Health Acts, so you need to go through them (they’ll have a Street Name & Numbering Officer). Land Registry will often check with SNN Officer if their address differs to the national land and property gazetteer (NLPG), which every local authority feeds in to.

I watched an interesting programme on BBC4 last week called Aliens: The Big Think.

Professor Martin Rees discusses the modern search for extra-terrestrials, and the theory that our idea of alien life is all wrong: that it’s not organic life we should look for out there, but machines.

    . I think it’s available on catch-up.

Also mentioned in the program was Drakes equation and there’s a program on BBC4 tonight (11.30pm) about that, as well.

Socialisation as in getting used to every days things, not with other dogs. We took (carried) our puppy on the train, into cafes, along the high street etc. just to get him used to different environments.

We went there in February. The sports facilities and activities are first class, but the hotel itself is a bit of a dump. I took the opportunity to ride over Dartmoor.

It was a long time ago (~10 years) since I last visited! Vague recollection of the hotel being ‘old-fashioned’ but plenty to do.

@Mikey74 – my nephew is currently doing this course – https://www.conted.ox.ac.uk/courses/introducing-mapping-spatial-data-gis-online and he would recommend it. He has used GIS in his job but wanted to learn more about it.

You can purchase ArcGIS for personal use at £10 per month. It’s just the basic version, though, so won’t include some of the functionality of other software, such as QGIS. I’d recommend doing a course to learn the basics, rather than concentrating on one particular software package.

I use the free version of Backcountry Navigator and set the map source to ‘UK OS maps from Bing’, which gives access to 1:25k & 1:50k mapping.

As you’ve got geographic coordinates, why not use a GIS? You could download QGIS (it’s free) and then follow these instructions – http://www.qgistutorials.com/en/docs/nearest_neighbor_analysis.html

Alternatively, email me the spreadsheet and I can do it for you (not till this evening though).

Thanks for that, that’s quite an undertaking to get all that on the map.

The data comes from Historic England/Welsh/Scottish/Northern Ireland and can be mapped easily. I know Historic England release a range of datasets: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/data-downloads/

I use the free version of BackCountry and set the map source to U.K. OS map from Bing, which gives you 50k & 25k maps. You can download the tiles for offline viewing, as well.
