Greg Minnaar: Retirement 20 Questions with the GOAT

We’ll be out the house 3-4 times a day, or as often as the foster dog indicates he needs to go out. We don’t have a garden so a short walk to the field near the house will happen. It’s essential afaic, it’s always quiet there as people have been electing to go to the local park for dog walks and exercise as the views are better and there’s less shit.
Bike is locked away until this is over, going back to running as i’ll get more benefit from that for an hour than MTBing on the flat.
Do I feel bad about ‘breaking the rules’ mildly, but I’m quite happy to explain this to a police officer should they notice the frequency.
greenskinFree MemberSame as others, Carbon on my Capra to Vibrocore on my Commy. Less arm pump, and chatter. All anecdotal, obvs.
greenskinFree MemberI use an old army bergan sidepouch linerthen have at the cassette with some degreaser and one of the muc-off cassette brushes.
greenskinFree MemberI start my new role in a couple of weeks. Not doing my actual job as that has been suspended, redeployed elsewhere in the trust to assist depts that are under-staffed. Manage to avoid the bug thus far, but i’m sure it’s only a matter of time once I start mixing with others.
greenskinFree MemberThat’s standard though. But I haven’t seen too much of that, just mostly just self-righteous **** and stupid people unable to follow simple requests. To be honest, this episode is further reinforcing why I prefer dogs to people.
greenskinFree MemberI have some aerobars you can have for cheap. No longer need them as I have a van.
greenskinFree MemberThing is, the simple request for people to exercise common sense didn’t work, much like the sneering condescension hasn’t worked either.
Just like their are idiots who can’t follow simple advice, there will always be miserable pricks letting us know how self-righteous they are.
Another happy COVID-19 day!

From moving platforms at moving targets. Those were fun and demanding range days.
The latter out to 1800m closing at 120kts.
Some days I miss it, some days so glad that that’s no longer my life. If I never see another desert again, that’ll still be too soon.
greenskinFree MemberJust finished 24 year career. I’m happy I’ll be weapon free from now on. Used to be an absolute nerd with it but as most of my weapons were belt-fed, shooting outside the Army doesn’t interest me.
Totally get why people want to target/sport/hunt shoot. More power to you. As for distasteful; Wilkos have offers on dustpan/brush sets to sweep that sand out of your vagina.
greenskinFree Member@stevedoc I bought a couple of Capra’s the last couple of years, sometimes their service is a little slow and comm spoor, but I’ve put that down to being just after sales of new bikes go live.
Not had any issues with the frames, some of the components on the other hand, but that’s not their issues and sometimes the warranty process can take some time. On the whole I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, the price is a steal. As for the Capra vs. Jeffsy, just depends on what terrain you’re riding. I find my Capra is a bit slugish on flatter stuff, however it really comes alive when it’s pointed downhill!
greenskinFree MemberMate, best to walk away, whichever way it goes it’s not pleasant. Few years back I had a similar interaction with a guy who took himself for a wideboy; he took a swing and I subsequently punched him very hard three times, it put him on his arse and stopped anything progressing, unfortunately said blows split his eyebrow and cheek. He cried like a lemon and I end up with a conviction for assault occasioning actual bodily harm. I hit him too many times apparently, but as I pled guilty they downgraded it from grievous.
I regret it insofar as I have a conviction, not cracking some belter who takes it upon himself to pick fights with people. Just mark and avoid the muppet or have a camera running when you’re commuting I think is the way forward in today’s world.
greenskinFree MemberDepends what i’m doing, but like most in here; open face and enduro kneepads for trail/XC, park riding.
Full face, DH knee pads, elbow sleeves and recently a chest and back protector for DH.
The elbow sleeves are just there to hopefully prevent cuts and grazes more than anything, if I’m wearing a jacket I don’t usually bother with them.
Used to bother me, but playing around at LUBP i’ve become accustomed to seeing people send stuff with zero protection. It’s a personal thing. However seeing an adult making their kid wear a helmet and not wearing one themselves has always baffled me.
greenskinFree MemberI enjoyed Swinley when I was just down the road. First few rides were a slog on my Capra, but then tweaked the suspension and it was a little more fun. And as many have said, pretty damn good for free!
In comparison to QECP, I prefer Swinley. Especially with the new skills area they’ve opened.
greenskinFree MemberGet in touch with RSF suspension, he may be able to change the steerer for you. Depends on model, he’ll know if it can be done. Via facebook is a pretty quick response time.
*edit: it’s not cheap, you’ll need to balance if it’s worth it depending on the value/cost of your bike. And reading through properly, it won’t be worth it.
greenskinFree MemberNot going to comment on the situation per se, what I will say is those suggesting waiting until the ‘ideal’ time to split, thats **** dumb. I’ve been that kid and it’s horrible. If things break down, don’t stay for the kids, split for the kids. Either way there will be heartache, but if you and your ex can find a way to not be dicks to each other apart, the kids can have some sort of normalcy. Living in some bullshit warzone for 9 years left me with more issues than I care to mention. It’s taken me until my 40’s to really get a handle on it all and move past them.
greenskinFree MemberHermes are cheap, very little in terms of questions asked about contents; there’s a reason the service can be so shit. I’ve just had a failed delivery, to a Go Outdoors store. Could be any number of reasons why the courier didn’t, but I’ll never know.
As a rule I don’t use them, this was done through GO Outdoors and if I’d known they used Hermes I’d have shopped elsewhere. Utter, utter dogshit company.
greenskinFree MemberI’m not a fan of the music, my tastes are much heavier. However, she seems like an ace role model for young ladies into her stuff. Pretty sure she’s a hit with parents for that reason at the very least.
More power to her and for her Brits win.
greenskinFree MemberDoes it? Or do some people just not like the music? I’m pretty sure a few here would say they don’t like my music choices. I’m wouldn’t get all woke about it. Pretty sure some of you **** could argue over fresh air.
greenskinFree MemberSo you’re now arguing over music choice? Maybe some of you should actually take up cycling…
greenskinFree Member@outofbreath The entire NASA/US Nuclear program was full of former German scientists, which I was unaware of until we had a presentation on the shuttle disasters including a full brief on all the main players. It was eye opening just how many the US hoovered up, all with immunity from prosecution.
greenskinFree MemberThis guy sums it up quite well.
The Holocaust is the most meticulously documented crime in history – not least by the actual perpetrators of the genocide – the Nazis
greenskinFree MemberAbsolutely factual @convert. We should rightly not be impressed with anyone carrying on in this manner, to do otherwise does a disservice to victims. But we could and should temper that displeasure.
But social media gives a voice to everyone, all thinking in isolation not thinking about the effect it will have.
Ironically seeing it on twitter threads today about her death, the bile and vitriol. People are **** stupid.
greenskinFree Member@Jamze trudat. I scrolled through Facebook wish morning, first notification was a mate giving me shit with some funny meme.
He obvs got it back, I couldn’t imagine scrolling through messages of hate and bile, my newsfeed and timeline full of shit stories about me.
Crushing is the word, I can see why higher profile celebs have SM managers who take care of that for them.
greenskinFree Member@Rockape63 it is isn’t it. It would be good if we viewed all those who commited these sorts of offences as ‘troubled’ but we usually default to ‘burn them’. It is interesting to see how many are trying to explain away her ‘alleged’ offences, fair amount of deflection going on. That isn’t a MRA slant, just an observation. Just shows the hypocrisy and bias we all have.
But maybe that links to the failures you’ve touched in and the secret Barrister goes into at length. There’s very little rehabilitation in the criminal justice system.
It’s why reoffending rates are so high, which you obviously deal with quite regularly I’d imagine. The system is broken.
greenskinFree Member@richmtb totally agree mate, I think it’s sickening that to stay ‘safe’ women have to court those who look for the stories.
It’s deal with the devil and eventually he comes for your soul, dragging all the mouth-breathers who hoover that shit up along with them for the feast.
But it’s supply and demand, regulating the messenger isn’t going to stop the demand. You’ll just see more bullshit flying around social media, if that’s even possible.
greenskinFree MemberI do. We’ve seen the PR machines kick in insulate celebs before. They have a huge part in steering column inches. She was left exposed and got absolutely hammered, the rags led the way, the mouth-breathers followed and piled-on.
greenskinFree MemberI don’t think gender is an issue in that regard, it’s about revenue generation. I would argue that the duo are a bigger earner for ITV than Ms. Flack. Got to protect those assets, right?
So it’s likely the same machine that kicked in to insulate Schofield from the rumours circulating most likely kicked into to protect Ant and left the asset with the most liability in the cold.
Makes it no less **** tragic though.
greenskinFree MemberTry to restrain yourself from being a cock eh?
It’s actually a fair point. As for her network, I think there’s a spot where she states friends found her draining.
I think she was more isolated than many would like us to believe. A waste of life however you feel.
greenskinFree Member@tpbiker as is often the case in DV offences. Damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Plenty of examples of victims being killed after going back to their partners.
It’s for that reason many charities and groups that support victims of DV campaigned for positive prosecution.
greenskinFree MemberSecret Barrister has a very apt thread on how we treat the accused in this country. There have been plenty of non-slebs who have killed themselves whilst dealing with the pressure of criminal accusations.
There is very little thought to the welfare of those accused who until the acceptance of or delivery of a verdict have been convicted of anything. It isn’t an either or, you can consider both the victim and the accused.
All points to society at large and how polarised we really are. Apply often hypocritical moral codes to others.
greenskinFree MemberYes! Seven…
Loving it thus far. Hitting the mark and that lad, he’s a ruthless one.
greenskinFree Member@macdubh Yes, positive prosecution is standard in DV cases. Usually though as the victims are women nobody gives a good goddam shit as to why the perpetrator is violent.
Nobody seeks to dress it up MH and they literally want to burn them at the stake. The double standards are horrific.
The changes in the law were brought about to help protect those that may be under the sway of a violent partner. Media and those who had a hand in this are all making noise to deflect from their culpability.
greenskinFree MemberMeh, blame social media and the press, but that lets every sad **** who consumes the showbiz bullshit off the hook. It lets off all the people who jump on the bandwagons to demonise others as a way of deflecting from their own misery.
I blame the consumers of it all. They create the demand and feed the production, feed the need to be first, to be find the dirt. Twitter is full of people right now blaming everyone else but themselves.
Interesting reading the some of grief whores tweet histories. Some are absolutely guilty of it themselves.
greenskinFree MemberMan, that’s a tough read. I’m not sure what I can say to you…
I don’t want to patronise or fill the air with hollow platitudes, you and your family have gone through a tragedy that all of us dread.
I can only imagine how hard it is to move through this and try and help your family heal and find peace for yourself, so in spite of some stumbles you feel you have made, don’t be hard on yourself.
I genuinely think you’re an amazing human, that much should not be understated. The way you have fought hard and continue to do so, to deal with one of the shittiest hands life can deal is humbling man.
I don’t know what help I can truly offer, other than some words on a screen, but if I can help I’d like to try.
greenskinFree MemberAh dude, I can’t even begin to imagine how hard today has been for you, I’m so sorry. Thankfully your dad didn’t go alone and had someone who clearly loved him deeply by his side.
Take care dude.
