    Hi Tom,

With the Singletrack video player the aspect ratio gets lost when played full screen on a 4:3 monitor. i.e. it squeezes the sides. Fine on a widescreen laptop.

    Chrome 7.0.517.44 on both.

Yes, I’ve had this exact problem with two different causes.

The first thing to check is that the “oval” bit of the valve stem is properly seated into the shaped bit on the rim strip.

I have also had the edge of the rim strip split and fold over under the tyre bead. This had me scratching my head for ages as it appeared to be leaking at the valve but in the end wasn’t. The air was getting under the rim strip and exiting at the valve hole! The cure was to remove the tyre, push the folded rim strip back into place and refit.

    This is asymmetric:

    and this isn't:

Bonty do two types of rim strip. One asymmetric and the other not. The trough in the "middle" of the asymmetric ones is off to one side. If your rims have an asymmetric spoke bed (off centre) then you need the asymmetric rim strip. If not you need the standard one.

So if you have Duster rims on your Remedy (which I believe are asymmetric) you will need the asymmetric rim strip.

Mine is a shortening of Green Knight after the story Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

My name is Gawain by the way.

Make sure you get the right rim strips. Some of the Bonty rims are asymmetric with the spoke-bed off centre. This is easy to see.

A year or so ago I paid £2.99 each for the strips and £2.99 each for the valves.

The ClimachX is a great trail and I would recommend you ride it if you get a chance. There are bits of the final section that are properly scary! Well at least to a mere mortal such as me.

I am working on a variation of Crotch-cam that will include a view of the front forks. Suspension-cam(tm)? 🙂

    Scienceofficer,

I assume you are referring to the aggressively priced Saris hanger? 😀

Fortunately I picked them up much, much cheaper from someone who worked for a barriers/cycle rack/security products distributor. As I was after a way of hanging the bikes and locking them to something solid the cost was only a little more than 3 x Decathlon hangers and 2 x ground anchors.

I don't have a very low resting rate either, about 65 BPM first thing in the morning. It can drop to about 58 BPM when I'm riding a lot and fit. Sitting quietly in a chair it is usually about 75 BPM. This has often had me puzzled about which figure to use when calculating HRR!

My HR also settles at about 105 BPM after exercise for about an hour, sometimes longer. I've been told that this is not uncommon.

Another thing that I've noticed is that my HR is VERY sensitive to anxiety, stress or excitement. e.g. If I'm excited and really looking forward to a ride I stand around at about 100 BPM. If I'm anxious or stressed then sitting down it is often around 90 BPM.

I do, however, take asthma medication which is well know for messing with your HR so all of the above is probably not that relevant to those without asthma! 😕

One last comment: My heart rate has been this way for decades (I'm 45 years old).

I use these as they have a big metal loop to lock the bike to. The drawback is they are expensive and you could probably do the same job with a decathlon hanger and some carefully spaced floor anchors mounted to the wall; if bike security is wanted too. (I am now wondering "why didn't I do that").

If you've cleaned the rotors with isopropyl alcohol you should only need to change the pads if you still think you've got a contamination issue.

    Wheel off.
    Old pads out.
    Clean caliper if filthy.
    Fit new pads.
Clean rotor with IPA and clean cloth.
    Wheel on.
A few start/stops to bed pads in.
A ride to finish bedding them in.

I have ruined rear pads on a couple of occasions by being too energetic whilst cleaning the cassette.

Edit: Usually, I have found, no amount of cleaning will cure contaminated pads.

If you ride with a lot of tree cover the Garmin may "Auto Pause" from time to time when perhaps it would be better if it didn't. As the cadence sensor also doubles as a backup speed sensor it can be good at giving more accurate speed and distance info when the trees are dense!

Had a similar problem with mine. It turned out to be the switch on the remote. Luckily I have two and the other one is fine!

Had a boiler breakdown a couple of years ago in January. We had no heating for four days and it was bloody cold outside and in. Had to leave the heating on "warm" when out and "hot" when in, for about two days (and nights) before the fabric of the building warmed up and it actually felt nice and warm (by Mrs GreenK's personal thermostat). It's a modern house , too, that's normally a doddle to heat.

I do a fair amount of lurking. Having said that this is my second post today! 😀

I do post from time to time but only where I feel I have something to say.

    Hello fellow, lurkers! 😉

I just rinse it out most of the time and hang to dry in the airing cupboard. I drop half a Milton tablet in once in a while when I remember or when I see black stuff coming out of the bite valve!!

You can buy Camelbak cleaning tablets that don't leave a taste but they cost about £9 for 8 so a box of 56 Tesco sterilising tablets for £0.76 makes a lot of sense to me even if they leave the great taste of chlorine. 🙂 A splash of fruit juice in the water masks the chlorine flavour.

If you want something bright that's seen from the side and the rear you need the Holy Hand-grenade from Cateye.

The battery life isn't spectacular, it isn't rechargeable, but it is bright!
You can also have one row flashing and the other constant.

You can buy additional mounts for it too.

Another vote for Time ATACs. I have had two pairs for three years and they have been (so far) maintenance free apart from a dab of oil on the spring once in a while.

    I've done:

Mistimed kerb mount followed by "full body dab" accompanied by damaged ribs.

Multiple clipless incidents. The best while "mentoring" a mate on how to avoid clipless incidents.

After bleeding my brakes and feeling really pleased with myself, I demonstrated the new found power in my front brake by literally shooting over the bars.

I don't like padded gloves either. Strangely I find they cause all the issues they are suppose to stop! I have some Specialized Enduro. Mine are going well so far. No padding and quite cool in summer.

I too have Atera carriers (Giro). I totally agree with Stumpy01's comment about making sure the hook is as far down into the join between down-tube and seat-tube as possible. Also make sure that the down-tube is right into the back of the hook before tightening up. I find this crucial if you have several bikes on the roof and there is a degree of "interference" between bars and seats etc.

Roofbox again. Very good experiences with them even when things break.

    More discussion here:

I have F120RLCs and they creaked but have now stopped. I have cleaned my headset recently so maybe that did the job. Headset is mentioned in the above thread.

If this a sort of sharp tingy creak when braking then I have this too on some F120RLCs. Or rather I did. A weekend at Nant yr Arian seems to have fixed it. 😀

No doubt it’ll be back though!

Anyone out there know if this needs to be fixed?
