Gambling is only wrong when you let it take over. I had a break in Vegas and thought it would be rude not to. I was there for 5 days and before I even got on the plane had allocated how much I was going to spend on gambling. I just saw it as the fee you pay for the entertainment I received. As it turned out I won a bit and lost a bit, for the 1st 3 nights came away about £100 down after spending 4 or 5 hours at the table, drinking for free and tipping the waitresses for 3 night solid. Bargain. The 4th night was memorable and I ended up about £400 up but that ended up being 7 hours at the table followed my many more at Crazy Horse 2, got back in the hotel just in time for breakfast with about enough winnings left to pay for it.
All in all a gem of a time and some truly entertaining nights that cost me no more than a couple of nights on the town.
You just need to know when to walk away. Oh and it helps if you don't take your entire student loan for a year and blow it in a week in Vegas like a couple of lads we met from Newcastle. Cracked me up but I cringe to think of them paying it off now!

In fairness as Tracker says we don;t know what happended and its likely to be the details we don't know which affected the outcome of her case. For instance was the alternative job she was offered a Cleaner or cook? having that rammed down her throat could have been sexual discrimination…. oh hang on a minute i'm speculating… i'll get my coat

My wife drove into an overhead carpark barrier with my bike on the roof on Saturday morning.

Surely that's the golden egg of whatever new bike you want, no arguments at all while she massages your shoulders whilst you're ooggling in the LBS….. Any bike you wants gotta be cheaper than the average divorce

Cheers for the info peeps. I'm actually amazed at the 20%. For some reason I expected it to be around the 40 – 50% figure.
Hopefully not a route I end up going down but if the worst comes to it at least I know theres light at the end of the tunnel.

Can't imagine not living with my kids though, after a hash growing up I swore i'd never end up down that path but I guess you never know what hand life's gonna deal ya. Not sure how I'd cope but I've got to do whats best for the kids. Seriously don't know how people manage to live without their kids. It seems an impossible situation to be in. Kinda makes you want to just put up with all the 5hit and be unhappy just to be with your kids and see them grow up, I kinda know thats not the right answer though….

He's basically highlighted himself as a potential threat as he might video the public, or he might video his neighbours, or he might post the videos on the tinterweb, or he might sell the films and become a millionaire……

Thats a lot of maybe's to be placed on the sex offender's register.

Come on everyone's a pervert behind close doors in someones eyes. This bloke just pushed the limits….

In my eyes if they make a mistake they should bend over backwards to accomodate the customer. Not expect the customer be out of pocket or without the things they need because of CRC's mistake.

Customer service should not be measured buy how good they are when things go ok but rather how they look after you when they bollox things up. Would the people still be singing their praises if their order was messed about and they received the same level of service as the OP?

Dragons are ****!! The last resort will be to use my current mtb shoes but not an ideal long term solution. I have skinny long feet (size 12) so the sidi's are a good fit. I find shimanos a pretty wide fit. Cheers for the links guys I'll start sending some emails out in the morning. It's bloody annoying as the right shoe is well comfy!!

How good do these look when you're old and fat?

Always baffles me why people who don't like tattoo's always seems to come out with this staement; How good does any part of you look when your old and fat?

If you live to see old age and are dealing with the ailments it brings are you going to be that concerned about a tattoo you had in your youth?

Whats the difference between belief in the Paranormal and religeon?
Just a thought. Both require faith and maybe be perceived as nonsense by the non believer…..

    A faulty dimmer switch?

Switched it with the one in the spare room, It didn't change anything.

Crikey – Again I didn't say this was paranormal, I didn't assume it was anything spiritual and I do not believe. Maybe I should have posted this on the chat forum under electrical problem. Was just interested to see if anyone could think of something I hadn't.
So if the believer's are gullable whats someone who discredits their views without offering any reasonable explanation?

Coffeking, what other details could play apart? Child was to small to do it and couldn't reach if she tried. No one else was ever in the house at the time.

As I said I do not believe in anything paranormal, just through the grandparents thing in to keep it relevant…

Ok I do not believe in the paranormal but there have been things that I can't explain….. come on the you sceptics rationalize please

For a period of about 6 months about a year ago the light in my Daughter's room (1year old when it started) used to come on by itself in the night, always between 7 – 11pm.

This happended on many occasions and to start with me and SO started by putting it down to one of us leaving it on. After it happended a handful of times we were sure it wasn't one of us doing it. It was the same situation every time. light tured on but dimmed to half light. After about the 5th or 6th time we got in to a routine of pushing the light off and then turning the dimmer all the way down so it would have been off even if you pressed it by accident. Later it was always same story, one of us would go up to the toilet and find the light on and half dimmed.

It happended enough to alarm us but I could never but it down to anything. It happended on many occasions when we both put her to bed and then both went down together. No electrical work was ever carried out during this period and it hasn't happended since. 6 months of very strange things, freaked the misses out somewhat and annoyed me as could never put my finger on why.

For all you believers we have 3 deceased parents between us and this was our 1st child, this period also covered the 1st 6 months that she went into her own room on her own

But my point is I have replaced the petrol in the past and not claimed for reduced petrol costs through the company. When I have used the car in the past it started with full tank and ended up the same out of my own pocket. What does it have to do with the taxman? They would only need to be informed if I am benefiting from using company fuel which I was not..
On this occasion I have recorded mileage by the book and used company fuel. I fail to see how I am in the wrong tax wise…..

    gravitysucks
    Free Member

Ok cheers guys. More or less what I thought…
So the boss can request that I record mileage but this is only for his purpose and not the taxman.

Basically I've had the car for the last 18 months and just don't use it personally. When I do its back fired on him as he wasn't expecting me to. His fault not mine. Contractually I only have to provide a record of personal mileage at the end of the month so he woudn't normally get this for another 3 weeks so i'm perfectly in the right (I used company petrol on this occasion so recorded mileage).

I'll hold my hand up to the only other occasions when I used it and replaced the petrol.

Either way the nobbers getting a snotty letter. I'll resist the temptation to go put it through his house door as he did to me.

    gravitysucks
    Free Member

Uplink… with you saying that it seems unusual, am I right in assuming that if i'm replacing the petrol used and already pay tax for the benefit of using the car for a full year then there are no reasons from a tax point of view for recording what I use the car for personally?

    gravitysucks
    Free Member

to explain further. I am contractually obliged to have the car as I'm on call one week in three and have to have it with me 24 hrs when I'm on. basically the company is forcing us to have them at home to alleviate security concerns of leaving the cars at the office.

I would give up the car tomoz if I could, but can't.

To reiterate I DO pay the tax for the benefit of having the company car, this is calcualted annually on the basis of the value of the car and me having in my possesion for the 12 months of the tax year. As far as I know whether I use the car once or a thousand times is irrelevant.

The point my boss is making is that I should be asking permisson to use the car because I have told them in the past that I only use it for travel in and out of work; BUT the amount I use the car is my choice and being in the same boat as the other funeral directors I could use it as my sole mode of transport if I wished.

The only point i'm unsure about is whether i'm obligated to mention if I do use it when i'm paying for the petrol myself, as oppose to filling up with the company fuel card. I don't see why I need to as the others only use this information to work out their personal mileage and how much they owe the company for petrol used that the company paid for on the fuel card.

I'm 99% that the boss is just being a k nob and is shirty because he wanted the car valeting. In my eyes if i'm obligated to have the car and am paying a shed load of tax accordingly then out of work the car should be on my drive should any circumstance arise in which I want to use it.

To me they should be asking my permission if its ok to take away MY company car and valet it, as I might want to use it….

It is an akward one as you want to play fair but it doesn;t really balance out when she doesn't does it?

I would plan a trip at Easter as mentioned and tell her you'll taken her for 4 or 5 days if she thinks its too much travelling for 3 days.

Tell her you'll have her on the planned days anyway and just do something locally with her and that you'll drop her off / collect her from her sleep over. This way you still get your time with your Daughter, which is the most important thing afterall

Realistically just weigh up the difference between the holidays you could do in term time and out and then workout if the difference is worth missing a couple of weeks of school…

I wouldn't hesitate taking them out of school to show them some of the world compared to a week in butlins in the school holidays.

Ask the school to let you know what they will miss out on during the absence and fill in the gaps in the holidays, at 6 years of age I can;t see it being an awful lot though

On holiday with a few friends in the Algarve his Dad was all too keen to take us for a ride on the his boat. So we hopped it over to gibraltar for the night; Evening started well with a civilized meal before us 5 young un's decided it was a bit crap and we should head over the boarder to La Linea for the night.

Me being the most sensible (not my vote!) I held everyones passports when we were in spain to ensure they were safe for the return boarder crossing. Anyways long story short I copped off with a barmaid did a load tequilas in a beach party before heading back to hers for a bit of spanish finest.

Following morning got walked to the boarder before runing back to Marina to go and gloat. Gloating lasted about 10 seconds after my mates Dad told me I had all my mates passports and after an altercation at the border the 4 pi$$ed brits without passports they'd all spent a night in the cells in spain.

One of the best nights of my life, they may not agree…

bigyinn – They will be at the wake with us and then we would stay at one of my cousins so they would just be up in bed while we have a drink downstairs. Not planning a big bender. Just a catch up with some family I haven't seen for a few years

MTBfix – She works for the NHS so wouldn't be a problem. Even is they didn't let her have it off for the funeral they would have to let her have it off to look atfter the kids if I wasn't there look after them. So either way she's going to be off unless she point blanks refuses and expects me not to not go and stay and look after the kids

Roper – not sure refusing to choke said chicken would bother her

    gravitysucks
    Free Member

    OK a little more info…
the funeral is about 3 hours away so would be a stayover joband catch up job.

She's not against them going to funerals at all (I'm a funeral director by the way)

She works evening's (1 – 9) so if she won't take the time off then theres no one to look after the kids in the evening (no family around us)

She gets on with my family but has never met anyone from my Dad's side.

The outburst is bad enough but what is grinding on me is that she clearly hasn't thought of me in this at all.

If the tables were turned I would relish the oppurtunity to meet her family, visit her Dad's home town and proudly show off my children to them. I would support her and generally do as she wished knowing how much she missed her Dad and the general crapness around his passing… or am I being naive?

Its not the funeral things, They've both been to my two gran's services in the last 18 months. I think its the taking the kids away from her for a night. She always puts the Kids before everything but FFS

Once got a nosh off a random chico on the train to edinburgh. I was drinking red stripe at the time so not sure if this disqualifies me….

Weirdest one was waking up to some bird giving me a nosh back when I was a student. Apparantly she was fairly drunk and had stumbled into my room instead of one of my flat mates. When I turned the light on to enlighten her she apologised, but was kind enough to finish 🙂
