Coil – Red Birds Will Fly Out Of The East And Destroy Paris
grahambFree MemberIf you’re doing this at the weekend, check on engineering works. It looks like there’s no trains on sunday out of Eastbourne, starting at Polegate southern live running[/url].
Southern conductors are normally ok IME. If the bike area is full they don’t mind bikes across the doors, provided you’re there to move it if the doors need to open. Whats others have said about bikes on rush hour trains. No bikes on trains into London or Brighton that arrive before 10am or leave 4pm – 7pm.
grahambFree MemberThere’s an area of managed farmland down here in Sussex, near Wepham, that attracts all sorts of raptors. There were 3 Short Eared Owls out hunting when i rode past on sunday.
Loads of twitchers out too as there’s currently a rough legged buzzard there.grahambFree MemberJust a thought. Someone has correctly configured an outgoing email server on her mail client haven’t they ?.
grahambFree MemberThe email isn’t being flagged as spam because you’re on a blacklist, it’s because the email is failing too many of the tests on the remote (company B) mail server’s spamassassin filter. Your original post lists the tests that are failing. The two i highlighted above are both failing due to reverse DNS lookups indicating you’re emailing from a dynamically assigned email address with an image attached to the email. To fix this you really need to send email from a fixed IP address.
How does your org receive email ?. You’ve said you’re not hosting your own mail server. Your receiving mail server will have a static ip address, can’t you send email via that server ?.
grahambFree MemberCougar’s right, basically it’s down to you using dynamic ip address.
The spam rating is accumulative. The more negatives you have the higher the score & once you hit a watermark it’s flagged as spam. Some negatives count higher than others.
If you look at that header, a lot of the negatives are triggered by reverse lookup from dynamic ip address. Dynamic ip address & image attachment counts for more. DYN_RDNS_AND_INLINE_IMAGE & DYN_RDNS_SHORT_HELO_IMAGE score over 1.3 & 1.8 respectively. Typically any mail with a score over about 3.0 would be flagged as spam. Add up the other negatives & they’ll tip that message as being spam. So to prevent this, get rid of the big scores. (The scores can be seen in the spamassassin 50_scores.cf file).
grahambFree MemberI can think of a couple of pay & weigh places locally that sell them loose.
I buy mine in 500g bags, which doesn’t seem like a lot. I only cook in bulk because the need for 24 hr soaking. (Tip, a teaspoon or two of bicarb in the soaking water with chickpeas reduces the cooking time).
If you make a lot of veggie burgers/falafel etc with soaked & ground but uncooked chickpeas, you can freeze them soaked & ground.
Edit: i’m sure mine keep frozen for a lot longer than a month.
grahambFree MemberA few days. Keep them in water & change it daily.
As you say, you can freeze them. I cook a kilo of chickpeas at a time & freeze them.
grahambFree MemberChampion the Wonder Horse was bloody awful.
And Robinson bloody Crusoe, White Horses and sodding Heidi.

grahambFree MemberI’ve been using a Belkin 1200VA UPS for the last 3-4 years. It’ll run my main server, Gb switch, router & a 17″ monitor for about 20 mins which is enough for most outages. It connects to the server via USB & the server runs a daemon that shuts everything down cleanly about 5 mins before the batteries are exhausted.
grahambFree MemberI agree with Dez. Not the best either have done. I’d like to hear an original lossless version though.
grahambFree MemberYou can also run them in the traditional bflex “duomode”, where presses of the switch alternate between low & high current settings. It’s how i have mine setup. With high current set to 2.8A & sensible use of low current setting i get about 2 hours runtime from a 2.6AH battery pack.
grahambFree MemberI’ve dropped “high” current on mine down to 2.8A. Can’t say i can notice the difference between that & 3A, but it’s less drain on the battery. Tonight i did a slightly longer loop than tues, but with way less use of the high current setting i easily got a 2 hour ride with the 2.6AH battery.
grahambFree MemberJust took mine out for a couple of hours on the downs.
I set mine up in uib2 duo mode, switching between 3000mA & the default. At the higher mode it’s bonkers bright. Low mode was fine for climbs & pootling along wide paths. Just under 2 hours riding just about exhausted a Lumi 2.6AH battery.
Fully agree with the comments about the ideal light spread. The beam is wide but has good throw.
I’m very impressed. Definitely recommended.
grahambFree MemberThat housing looks great.
Will it be available as a kit &/or without battery ?. I’m looking to upgrade from my modded Lumi cans with XPE & XPG. I’d prefer to source components locally than go to Cutter.
grahambFree MemberI thought (maybe it’s changed) that OSX was not licensed for anything except apple hardware.
IIRC the license agreement states that you have to run it on Apple branded h/w. When you purchase OSX they provide you with stickers that you can brand your non-apple h/w with.
grahambFree MemberNow thats odd timing. After the thread earlier today about that satellite about to re-enter the atmosphere i went looking on youtube for Inner City Unit’s Skalab. Didn’t find it, but did find lots of Hawkwind.
Now those were album covers. Downloads might be more convenient, but you can’t beat covers like In Search of Space.
I can never work out my favourite album, anything of them up to Astounding Sounds really. They got a bit too heavy metal for me after that, especially when Huw Lloyd Langton rejoined. I preferred the stuff Nik Turner did with Sphinx & ICU.
grahambFree MemberI was with them last year too. Agree 100% with what capt bastard & Andy said.
To me it seemed like SC was run with minimum outlay possible (have they got curtains in the rooms yet ?). The OP’s experience doesn’t exactly surprise me.
grahambFree MemberImabigkidnow – lol, i hadn’t even noticed that. That’s a totally useless place for a 20 limit as far as cyclists are concerned. Most would be riding along the seafront path.
grahambFree MemberSlightly related to this. Worthing council are currently pushing through a 20’s plenty campaign, a voluntary 20 mph limit on all non-arterial roads in the town to encourage walking & cycling.
“No cameras, no speed humps, just the people of Worthing agreeing to make their town a safer, more pleasant place for everyone.”
Nice idea, but it’s pie in the sky. Most drivers just don’t give a toss about other road users.
grahambFree MemberLate to this thread. Late 70’s early 80’s was a great time for music.
I used to tag along with mates to the punk gigs in the 70’s but never really liked the music, like some on here i was more of a Gong & Hawkwind fan, but liked the energy. Saw most of the main punk bands bar the Pistols in small venues. Anyone from Brighton remember the gigs at the New Rodent ?.
I started at Liverpool Uni oct 1978, & discovered a club called Erics within a couple of days. Thursday nights were free to members, the likes of Pink Military, Teardrops, OMD etc. One night Erics would have the Damned playing, the next National Health, the next Here & Now. Most nights either in Liverpool or a short hitch across the M62 to Manchester there’d be a gig worth seeing. It was no wonder i failed after the first year really :D
Albums from that time i still play now … any of the Cab’s up to Microphonies, Hai/Crackdown is my favourite era, their gig at Jenkinson’s in Brighton has to be my best gig of all time. ACR’s first is an all time classic. Slits, Killing Joke, Shriekback, SPK, TG.
Also lot of reggae … Misty, Aswad, Steel Pulse, the Trojan & Greensleeves 12″. It seemed to be the soundtrack to the early 80s free festivals.
grahambFree Member“I think this is an appalling article written with no insight and a huge lack of compassion towards the cyclist”
You’re clearly not a regular reader of the Evening Argus then Foxyrider ;)
I don’t know where they get the “riding slowly up hill” bit from. There are no hills in Worthing town centre. Tennyson Road is dead flat. It runs N-S & the recent strong winds have been westerlies so he wouldn’t have been riding into a headwind.
grahambFree MemberI’ve got a Viking GE150 (i think). Had it for quite a few years now.
It copes with the annual garden tree/shrub prunings. Gets clogged if the input is largely green matter like herbacious plants, so you need to keep feeding it some more woody material mixed in with those. The output gets composted mixed with general green waste & works ok. The resulting compost is much coarser than from pure green matter, but works well as a mulch & soil improver.
grahambFree Member“has anyone got any experience of using or making a dehydrater?”
I’ve had an EzDri Snackmaker probably 12 years ago with about 10 shelves. A mix of mesh & solid shelf liners. Cost about £80 iirc. They have a video on youtube. Looks like you can buy them again the UK now.
I’ve never worked out how much it costs to dry food. The heater doesn’t generate that much heat, certainly doesn’t seem to be close to the 500W they claim the heater is – more like a 100W lamp or a PC. The key to drying food is to keep the warm airflow over the surface of the food. Drying times reduce if you turn the food during drying.
Needless to say some things work better than others. Try to remove as much water as possible before drying for sauces, or wet foods. Cut up solids smaller than you probably would normally. (I learnt that one the hard way with some veg stew where the chucks were too large & wouldn’t rehydrate). The thinner you spread the food on the sheets the quicker it dries. I’d say average drying time is about 10-14 hours. I try & do as much drying as possible in the winter just so i’m using the heat from the dryer to warm the house.
Once dried, i store the results in sealable sandwich bags in the fridge (i don’t know if the fridge is absolutely necessary tbh). I’ve used foods dried a year after drying & they’ve been ok.
I’m veggie so can’t say what it’s like for drying meat.
Dhal dries great. Cook it thicker than normal. It ends up sort of powdery but rehydrates fine. Add green leaved veg (spinach, chard etc).
Rice dishes work well, mixed veg & nut pilau is a favourite.
Stir fried beancurd, veg & rice works ok if the beancurd & veg are cut small.
Tomato sauce for pasta works well. Add thinly sliced mushrooms or veg.I dehydrate breakfast – muesli with finely chopped banana & kiwi, made with soy milk, maple syrup. The last thing i do at night when camping is to make a brew & use the rest of the hot water to overnight soak my breakfast. If i’m doing a long walk i’ll add a spoon of Torq neutral per portion to bump up the carbs.
I’ve tried pasta. That took about as long to rehydrate as cooking a quicker cooking pasta from scratch. Won’t do it again. If you were making a drier, i’d suggest you need to get a fan blowing air over the food as well as some heat source. A 100W bulb plus a PC fan with a speed control (like the one Zalman do) would work. Look at the youtube video at how the shelves are designed on the EziDri. They channel air around the shelves. The fan is in the centre bottom of he unit, & warm air is vented from a hole at the top.
grahambFree MemberI use an Ascaso iMini with my Silvia, as worktop space is limited, (used to use a Dualit). If all you’re grinding is for espresso machine, then something like the iMini or Rocky etc will be a massive improvement over the Dualit. There’s no way it can get the grind fine enough.
One problem with the iMini, the grind adjuster has about 30 turns from one end to the other, so it’s basically impossible to use it to grind for espresso one minute & plunger or stove top the next. I still use the Dualit for those.
grahambFree MemberConfirmation email here too last night :)
Like some others on this thread, I just got a call from the bank with suspected fraudulent transaction on my card relating to this transaction. Oakley tried to take the full price last week, & then cancelled it. Card is ok. <phew>.
grahambFree MemberAnd they’ve just come from a test series in West Indies so their pace bowlers will be tired from that.
It’s a shame Prior didn’t get to another 100.
grahambFree Member“He hit it like a kicking horse” is one of Henry Blofeld’s commonly used phrases on TMS, used to describe a 4 or 6 hit off the square with a thump. I didn’t hear him use it in the Lords test.
\o/ first ball wicket of their innings to Anderson.
grahambFree MemberI’m waiting to see what happens when Jimmy Anderson bowls in these conditions.
Good to hear Swann hit the first kicking horse of the series.
grahambFree MemberThe reason you can only buffer up to the ad break is because they serve it up in discrete chunks. The ads are served at the start of each chunk.
It seems to fail more often for me whenever it has to go to the backend to ask for the CDN location for the next chunk.
