I put lots of different food out for the birds. It’s cheaper than feeding a cat or dog & much less hassle.

tankslapper, the best feed i’ve found for finches, tits etc is the RSPB premium sunflower heart mix. Very little wastage & no mess as it’s hulled. Buy direct from the RSPB & all the profits go to them. The goldfinches seem to prefer it to Niger seed. It’s got a small amount of maize & millet in it, enough for the smaller birds like robins etc & no corn so it doesn’t attract hoards of Pigeons. Buy online or at your local RSPB visitor centre.

Yes, you’re right. My mistake. The viewer is multicast. It’s the iplayer download manager that’s p2p.

RudeBoy, Heroes of Telemark is available for download now.

Download availability doesn’t always work for some reason. Some streams are not available despite the “–info” option of get_iplayer stating that they are. Hmm.

I also notice intermittent playback when i watch iplayer content directly. It’s partly why i’m using get_iplayer. I know it’s not caused by my isp throttling traffic nor my connection. I can only assume it’s down to the beeb not having enough infrastructure to cope with iplayer demand. I use linux & don’t have an iplayer client that’ll do peer-to-peer. That would in theory help reduce load at the beeb, but I’m not sure whether the more anal isp’s (i’d include AOL as one) block this as they do with other p2p traffic (bittorrent etc).

Use get_iplayer to download the content & then watch locally ?. Works for me.

Christowkid, it’ll be on iplayer for the next week or so. (“get_iplayer” is your friend ;)

I never got into Wishbone Ash. I saw them once supported by Supercharge, who (IMO) were way way better. Guess I got fed up listening to all the apprentice guitarists in my year at school trying to play the intro to Blowing Free all the time.

John Martyn’s live playing solo was great, just him & the Echoplex for backing. Never really liked him as much with a band, even with Danny Thompson on bass.

Now the beeb need to do a similar documentary on the start of uk heavy metal.

Andrew, I’d agree with that. Gong are one of the few bands from that time i can still listen to. I like what Hillage is doing with System 7.

There were some really awful prog rock bands, even worse than the likes of ELP, Yes & Genesis. Anyone remember Barclay James Harvest, Focus, Supertramp.
    /me winces

I’d add Curved Air to this list, but i still have fond memories of Sonja Kristina ;)
