Would love to see more illustrations of Culture ships. They sound amazing in the books.

I think the problem is they would all look like eliposids, only superlifters and ous seem to have a design

I suspect the banks book will be published about the same time as half life 3 is released

“Can I stick a 13 amp plug on this?” You can put a 13 amp plug on anything at least once!

As trailwagger said you need a KVM, a Keyboard, Video and Mouse switch. Do you also use an external monitor and need to share it between both laptops?

Most (ifnot all) chrome books will support an external keyboard and mouse, just plug them in to check.

If you do need to share a monitor you need to pay attention to resolution and refresh rate

Try this https://www.splitcsv.com/ but please be aware that the data in the file will be out of your control and my not be secure.

Notepad++ cannot open files that are larger than 2GB so that may be an issue.

Apropos of nothing both Notepad++ and Wordpad may not be suitable for this as it’s possible to have a CR or CRLF in a CSV file (embedded in quotes) and this can cause a problem when working in text editors.

Check out XDA and this thread

Doesn’t look to complicated but it depends on how technical you are.

I think it would depend on wheather you want a tablet that can funtion as (small) laptop or a laptop (chromebook) that can work as a tablet.

If its the former I’d have anoter look at the Samsungs – I’m typing this on a Tab5 with the keyboard cover – I use it more than my laptop but that is more to do with c19. They are not cheep as Samsung seem to think that they are in the same space as an iPad (pro). An advantage of the Samsungs is that they can run in ‘Dex’ mode and driver and external monitor.

I’ve not used ChromeOS in tablet mode but I do have old Lenovo yoga that is meant to function as a tablet and it’s a bit rubbish – works well at trade shows buts that’s all. Definitally on the try before buying in my opinion

If you can get a monitor that is height adjustable like this one Iiyama ProLite as it saves a lot of faffing with monitor stands or stacks of books

As suggested get an external keyboard and mouse, you can make connecting and disconnecting easier with a docking station

A laptop stand will help if you want to use the laptop as a second monitor

I’ve got a friend who works for UPS, they get given a road atlas

I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised, last time I looked as this properly was >5yrs ago and the software licences were 80k+

Something like this

https://pypi.org/project/soundmeter/

Might work if the ‘input signal’ is just a certain level of noise if the input signal is a more complex trigger see CraigW’s answer

Do you mean that you want to generate a tone (sound) on the laptop speaker – if you do you could (will) get a problem with feedback

As others have said this is a quite a complex problem and companies that do multi-drop deliveries are probably paying quite a lot for their planning software

Have a read of this blog Best Free Route Planning Software With Unlimited Stops and try some of those

As route planning is not a easy problem and probably more realistically Google don’t do if for free and no one if sinking VC money into the problem most companies providing this service need paying

routexl is free for up to 20 stops so you could start there.

You haven’t said what she is studying, have you checked that there is no specialist software required for the course?

Last time I was studying (a year or two ago) we were recommended refworks which more or less required windows/word to be useful and while some people chose not to use it I definitely saved a lot of time using it to manage citations.

That being said take a look at ebay OS free – I’m rather tempted by the x240 but remember that their is no power supply. You could install Mint or have it run from a USB stick to try it.

Ebuyer has some Free DOS laptops but I’d not recommend a 15.4″ screen for university as its a but big – I’d recommend a separate screen and keyboard for home/dorm use

Have you considered a Chrome Book – just avoid the very cheep ones.
How about a iPad and smart keybaord (or Android equivalent)?

As a student she would qualify for an Apple educational discount – that may put a Mac Book Air in your price range (or take a look at the refurbished systems)

Have you looked at Terry Pratchett’s books for children?

Truckers, Diggers and Wings is aimed at younger children and if like Diskworld there’s the Tiffany Aching series

In a similar situation and we’re using JIRA and JIRA service desk.

JIRA not sure if you can just use JIRA service desk but it looks like you can.

Atlassian own Trello so I’d expect the integration to be OK but I’ve not used it myself.

Maybe…

It might depend on what you mean by “on the same waste as the kitchen” I don’t think you would want to connect the macerator to the same 40mm waste pipe but you should be OK if its a separate connection to the 110mm soil pipe.

Happened to us a few years ago, Asda arranged collection and a replacement car while they were fixing ours.

Only time I’d question this approach is! If my car was very new and I was worried about the warranty

I’d try looking for a local kitchen or bedroom company, you should be able to find one that can make a cabinet with custom dimensions

Python if you have used it before but I’d use Node-Red and I do..

This is a Node-Red ‘flow’ controlling a fridge (via a relay)

Control and temperature reporting is via MQTT but you could also use it to create a UI, websocket and/or Rest interface

neverownenoughbikes I have the Salus RT500BC and while its not as cool as having a colour screen and a mobile phone app its sufficient for our needs

They also have a few internet connected (smart?) devices and seem to cost less than the hive/nest versions

8GB is definitely not enough space – I recently had to use an only 8GB phone while mine was being repaired and it ran out of space almost as soon as I restored my account.

I like Android but I think that they have made a mess of their SD card implementation (probably as is based on Linux) up until v6. As others have said you cant just move anything to the SD card, I think its only really useful for music and photo storage.

v6 Allows an SD card to be formatted as internal storage but Ive not tried it

Edit: Found some instructions (I’ve not tired it)

I also don’t think you can be a bit OCD.

If you believe that your family will die if the soup is not stacked correctly and you have checked the soup can alignment multiple times today you mane have and OCD.

You may need a WIS12ABGNX which is a bit expensive at £57.96 as the TV would not have the drivers for a generic wifi adapter.

Google the model number and I’m sure you will find the information you need

I’d recommend AO, fast delivery and by all accounts a nice company to work for. Only blemish I know of is a recent which report criticising there Black Friday pricing!

Watch out as current prices may have been raised so they can be discounted on Black Friday.
