I have a 727, great bike and I don’t have EI either, got my old fox rp2 and a set of sweep forks so it’s more like a spicy. Much easier to pedal uphill and over technical stuff without noticeable compromise DH compared to my old zesty. I might be quicker downhill but it’s a longer wheelbase bike so don’t read to much into that. Not to shabby round tight hairpins either.

AA. 3rd year with them. They changed insurer and has resulted in a much better product this time round?

I have same setup as you and had the same problem. The issue was friction in the cable from bb along chainstay to mech. I changed inner and outer and it’s back to finger light shifting again, even with clutch mech engaged.

I ran X Fusion Sweeps 160mm travel on my Zesty for best part of a year, with 26″ wheels. The A2C and offset where significantly different to the Fox 32 26″ fork on it originally. It was great downhill. I did have travel adjust which compensated for climbing.

I would recommend….. The AA! Third year with them and still the best value insurance. And I have filled in quote forms for all the usual suspects and some during a mammoth form filling/phone yesterday.

The AA have changed my contents insurance from axa to the International insurance of Hannover!! It is specified at home and away…. And yes replacement is new for old.

    Cheers

Away from Home add on policy on specified bike covers my bike in outbuildings with AA. Despite a claim in year 1, my premium went down in year 2 and they dropped my excesses too.

Yes last serviced in April, while waiting for my seatstay to be replaced!

I am running the x fusion sweep fork at 160mm which is great.

Since my shock tune isn’t a million miles away from the correct tune and I’m not too slow,I might hold off a change till end of the year. I don’t want to spend the money on a tune and then end up replacing the shock. Although it would be good to have more support and not blow through the travel so quickly.

Considering there were more than few warranty claims on 2012 frames which are now being replaced by 2014 frames, I a surprised there are not more people with the same issue.

Chapaking your quite right I didn’t mention it. I’m on holiday with the Pompetamine! And the family of course!!

The shock is the stock RP2 from my old 2012 Zesty. From memory it’s M/L of which I believe the rebound is L. Either way, l have the wrong shock tune. Interesting you rate the PUSH tune….

If however I do run my shock at 180 psi and I can adapt to less rebound… then maybe it is worth holding out for a CCDB inline?

Ok thanks, I’ll try a little less damping on my next ride. I do recognise too much weight over the bars early in the transition and pumping late. It is also possible the trainer set us up with slower rebound for a wet Garburn Pass.

Always good to check and challenge.

While I’m at it, talking to TF, shock pressure for my weight (82kg) should be 195psi but I’m running nearer 180psi for the sag setting (mid to FR) on the Zesty. Consequently, I am blowing through my travel easily. So the second change will be to try more pressure. Do/did you or other zesty owners ride high pressures than sag setting indicates.?

Yup, with Ti axle option. I like them but the axle feels slightly ‘proud’ relative to the toe/heel ends which I have got used to now. No problem with bearings but only used them for six weeks. I look forward to the bearings playing up 😥

Any chance you could be a bit more helpful, preferably without the ‘ers’

Always looking to improve so some constructive advise on where I’m going wrong might be useful and save me some much needed cash.

I did do a course last year and the first thing our trainer did was bike setup. He set my rebound to a few clicks off slow based on my feedback and the logic seemed to make sense. Slow rebound equals less kickback but consequence for successive hits….

So understanding and/or technique could be at fault but just looking for advice.

Yeah sorry, I did a google search for Zesty tune. I completely forgot when I posted my reply!

My shock came off my 2012 Zesty as the 2014 was a warranty replacement. I have always had to set my rebound slow to stop the back end kicking up and it consequently bogs down on successive hits. I was told this would not be resolved with a ccdb inline.

Interesting the stock fox tune for 2014 onwards is m/m, so my rp23 is already not at the right settings. I suppose this is not a common issue as most folk have the EI shock or at least the right Fox CTD. Shock tune.

The TF recommendation to me was to get my rp23 tuned as there is more scope to do so with pre CTD shocks.

Not sure that CCDB is the answer for 2014 Zesty. According to TF, high speed rebound will not be resolved with inline and I don’t think piggy back cans fit the frame without clashing. I’m considering a TF tune.

Thanks guys. Sorry for late response but I’m on a campsite! Anyway, not sure that piggy back shocks fit the new frames. I was sold on a ccdb air inline but just read about weight restrictions!!! So might be back to the Monarch Debonair.

How about the trailstar 2.25 for the rear?

    goyawave

I went for the hope tech rims on hope evo pro 2. The rims are pretty much the same width as stans flow!

If you look closely at the team spicy photos on the Lapierre website, it has a hans dampf and if you look real close, it is a Pacestar… Now unless this is a special 2.25.

Also, my heels rub quite badly on the seat stay which measured at its widest point is 190mm which I understand to be wider than the production standard…. But I thought this had been resolved. Anyway, wondering if old standard back end had less clearance?

    I don’t get it 👿

The tyre has rubbed on the chainstays of my 727 I put some heli tape there and it has worn, in one ride!

What tyres are you running and on which model/year?

…then I’ll be looking for a winter tyre in a few weeks??

First ride this weekend at cwmcarn twrch trail with the Sweep DLA and what can I say – amazing! A bit of front wheel lift going up even in 130 mode but I have a smidgen more a2c than the fox 140. I will experiment with bar height. Downhill in 160 mode more stable although I have effectively lengthened the bike. I need more time and to play with the setup but very positive after the first ride…. Why then would I want to change to the liteville I crave??

Still waiting for my Sweeps DLA which will go on the Zesty. Might then swap out the frame for the Liteville 301 although lately wondering… why bother changing!

Start at Southgate (nice cafe) back up the road and folllow b/w accross Pennard golf course into some woodland and nice rocky descent that brings you out in Parkmill opposite Shepherds.

My first mountain bike route back in 1990 on my Giant Coldrock 🙄

I have a nice circular route around Kendal but need to get to Staveley for a bit more choice. Which weekend? I am off work for a while might be able to show you around.

Can I take you up on the offer too please?

My in-laws live in Kendal (and Lowick) so come up regularly, but have no one to ride with so end up going for the safer Grizedale and Whinlatter options.

I have done Stavely – Kentmere inc Garburn, also Grizedale – Parkamoor and some others but would be good to go riding with someone.

I see, mine is 67 deg plus I have 140mm forks for the time being.

I’ve not been much help but seems general feedback is positive toward slackening Zesty HA.

I’m interested in your feedback as I’m about to put a 160mm travel adjust fork on my 2012 Zesty.

So you want to use the angle adjust headset to slacken HA which will also drop the BB and then fit longer travel fork which will slacken HA again but raise the BB? So basically bringing the geometry back to where it was with longer travel fork and end up with a slacker HA?

Just trying to get my sore head round it.

Nice ride. I am looking to upgrade to a Liteville and in the meantime I have ordered a set of Sweeps myself. The 26″ wheel on the Sweep doesn’t look as bad as I thought it might… How does it ride?

Also, when you do upgrade to 27.5″ wheels what tyre are you thinking of using on the rear?

I have one, it has been targeted but I still have my bike. It is connected to my house alarm.. If you search for my previous posts you should find as much as I would want to share openly.

If I was paranoid, I’d think you were phishing..,

    Hi Pymwymis,

I am trying to future proof my next ride, which will be a liteville 301, by buying 650b forks and using on my zesty with 26″ wheels until next summer.

Did you run 26″ wheels on 650b forks on your liteville and how did you find it?

Like you said in a previous post, once you upgraded the front – the rear becomes the weak point. I spent quite a lot of Saturday sliding my rubber ring back onto my shaft! 🙄

I just logged in to start a similar post as I am about to do the same thing with my as yet uncracked 2012 714, but was not planning to change the travel at the rear.
Max torque: Why did you go 160 at the rear but stick with the 150 32’s?

Just ot follow-up, I ordered a set of X-fusion Sweep with DLA… just have to wait until next year!!

So the upgrade is worth it then for the Zesty. The Sweep (sounds like a hand puppet!!) I am considering is 27.5 specific version of the Slant. Has anyone got a view on using a 26″ wheel on a 27.5″ specific fork?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, I certainly have more ideas than this time yesterday. Currently considering running 26″ on X Fusion Sweep set at 150mm, which I believe is possible. Need to get my head round the effect of geometry change on the Zesty.
Otherwise, I’ll stick with what I’ve got as no point in compromising my next bike which will probably be a Nicolai or Liteville. However, at 80+ kg I can’t help thinking a stiffer fork would be a good upgrade.

+1 for same dilemma here. I am after a nicolai helius ac.

Know it well, Mrs Goyawave grew up there but we haven’t been up since the roadworks started. Such a short dual carriageway with the crossing junction has always been the scene of almighty fookwittery! So same drivers, same stretch of road, different layout equals field day for bell ends!

+1 for moving toward the centre of the lane if I don’t think there is enough room to pass.

I have also had my front door kicked in while we were in. I’m sure the previous advice was tongue in cheek but I would not encourage this as a diversionary tactic.. It was not a pleasant experience!

I have an Asgaard and have upgraded the locks. Google the standard lock supplied and you’ll see a few ‘lock technicians’ happy to demonstrate how easy they are to pick. Also, I have found ‘keyed alike’ locks are not so unique! I upgraded to the Abus 20/70 locks.

My Asgaard has been targeted several times and they have almost got into it. A quick search for Asgaard on this forum will reveal at least one other that was not so lucky! I would highly recommend installing a ground anchor so that you have more than one layer of security to increase the time it takes to get to your pride and joy, and make the area more conspicuous.

I have several layers of security when you include the night light… oh and it’s linked to my house alarm. I also have a gravel driveway!
