My new Fox 36 Grip2 is harsh as a badgers arse down Bunkers compared to the the Lyrik with the Andreani damper it replaced.  Talking of which, you out Friday’s anytime soon?   Ww

I took my Shorty off for BPW in favour of a Mary. Others went High Roller and were fine.

Roots Manouvre was hilarious, slip and slide!

I’m running one as a winter tyre but in fairness i will be using a Mary today at BPW. But the Shorty will go back on tomorrow, for non trail centre riding as it sheds mud so much better.

(Just to clarify – I still have a spare Shorty in Maxterra. I’ll be running the MaxxGrip

I’m not but both are sizes are available.

Has anyone gone from a shorty on the rear to something better in slop?

    Thread ressurection i’m afraid.

Looking for a rear tyre for winter use when when it gets muddy around FoD trails. So steep, exposed roots and some rocky sections.

I have been using MM Vertstar/HD Trailstar for last couple of years but looking for something more winter specific.

I’ve just started using a Shorty WT MaxTerra up front but my Vigilante Tough/fast rolling on the rear will need changing soon. I’m happy with the Short up front and Am thinking Shorty 2.3 on the rear. I can see some have used the Shorty front/rear combo with some reservations on roots and rocks. Have you come across anything better for the rear?

    Thanks

If anyone needs new pads, i no longer need the ones IainC sold me. 2 sets still in the bag, I havent used them as my pads lasted longer than the helmet. I will also include 2 sets of visor bolts… all for a tenner.

FOD trails running great. Been there last couple of days and it’s still surprisingly dry.

I have the standard one with the lifting lid and shrouded locks. Access is great but i have had a couple of attempted break ins. Nothing stolen but the damage to the shed is expensive to fix although Asgard have been great.

I have since reinforced the edges of the lid with steel angle and upgraded the locks. I have also connected it to my house alarm.

I ran mine with E4 calipers but couldn’t go 180mm.

I got the same issue. The rebound adjustment works fine with a hex key instead of the knob. I have tried the knob from my Lyriks which works perfectly! The knob is not easy to source so since mine are less than a year old, I sent them back.

Anyone know if the calipers are interchangeable? In other words use the S4 calipers with the previous standard of lever with connects manic?

Transition Carbon here Joe, in hindsight I don’t need the Carbon and would probably have gone airdrop as same geometry. My times were bout 10% slower than the whyte last weekend so don’t discount it!

P-jay. The natural trails you talk of were being decimated by tree fellers a few weeks ago. Shame but had to be done I guess.

I got one and love it coming from a Spicy. Not as light as i thought it would be. Very quiet but i have a ’17 frame where cables exit the frame further forward – not sure if that makes a difference for cable rattle. Chain slap not an issue at all. The metric shock is great at 35% too. I have gone for a size up as the seat tube is short so i can get away with a longer bike. This means i am forced to get my weight forward which suits me. Although looking at photos from this weekend, i could get a lot further forward. Compared to my old bike i am loving the wheelbase, reach and head angle – i might go slacker! I’m not bothered about pedalling uphill or flats quickly which is why i went Patrol over a Scout or similar. In hindsight, i dont really need a Carbon bike.

I just tried to fit a 2016 Rockguardz protector to my Patrol but it turns out the cable exit point has moved on the 2017 frame. Hopefully Rockguardz can offer a 2017 version but in the meantime, how are people getting on with this Trek downtube protector?

Just to close this out. I’ve been riding my large Patrol for a few weeks now and am very happy with it. Need to shift my weight foeward a bit more round corners but so confident now descending.

Just to follow-up on the bar spacer question.

Bluearsefly, you look like you have 3 x 5mm spacers under your bars? Would you go lower??

I only ask as my fork steerer limits my bar height (10mm and I’ve gone for a wider bar bringing my weight forwards) and i could counter by exchanging my 20mm riser for 30mm.

I’m interested in this too. Its between this or the IXS Trail. Does anyone know if the sizing for the Rex is similar to a Mojito?

Nice, have you guys got around 30-40mm spacers under 20mm riser bars?

I’ll be using my hope brakes too.

My frame is stuck in a box in the spare room! Family day!

I have had one for years. A shed, even Asgaard sheds, should be considered as just one layer of security. You should still use a ground anchor and think of the location, light, etc..

We have had several attempts on ours and so have others on this forum.

Tried a large today thanks to BPW. I liked it and have ordered one!

Just measured the crank centre to reverb collar on my current bike. I’ll either have 18mm or 56mm showing on a L or M Patrol respectively.

The wheelbase is longer, 30mm or 60mm compared to my Spicy. But the Reach is only 4mm or 29mm longer. I would like to try a longer reach.

Anyway, roll on Saturday when i can try a L out for size.

Cheers guys.. I suspect i’ll be ordering a M then after I’ve taken a large for a spin!

Great! Thought i was going mad as reach on M looks bit short despite what the size chart says.

[edit] TT is shorter than my M Spicy and reach is similar. I’m after something a bit longer. I am going to try a L this weekend.
