Hmmmmmm the bigger rotors are on the bike I use more often, with the newer brakes, the older brakes are on the patriot, can’t swap the back brake without faffing.

    Thanks any way

I normally ride with just kyle straits, but before going to the alps last year, I cut the shin pad off an old pair of Dainese knee/shin combo, threw away the knee part and strapped on the shin under the straits… worked a treat, as the straits are great knee pads, and I also had shin protection.

for cheapness, use footie shin pads inder the POCs

I don’t adjust anything, I just unbolt the big ring, bolt on a bash guard, and just ride normally, never had the chain come off over the bash.

    Thanks Tucker.

Can anyone lend any confirmation to the fact that the shadow mechs are stiffer, and shift better?

Hi, I had the same problem, sent the first pair back to Tredz, got messed around for a month, and then got a replacement. The second set lasted only a handful of rides, so decided to email fox direct, complain about the whole saga, and ask if in their opinion, their gloves are one use wonders.

A chap called Ian Husband emailed me back, apologizing for my bad experience, told me to send the gloves back for inspection. He also send out replacements the next day. So far, there ok-ish, but I’ve still got his email for when they fall apart.

    hope this helps,

I’ve been through Edinburgh to Geneva 3 return times with easyjet, the bike bag was only weighed once in Geneva. Always have the full facer in a rucksack on my back, packed full of crap, often weighing up to 15kgs. Just pack the full facer and shoes at one end of the bag, and the clothes and other crushable items to the other end, and ram the bag into the overhead locker…. never has weight or bulk ever been mentioned, but I too always travel with the T&Cs.

Why don’t you just use zipties? If you use them in combinations of 3, so 2 loops, on round the cable, one round a part of the bike, and a little one holding them together, it should do… saves that horrible moment when the drill slips!!!!!

after falling out with Gear in Glasgow, where I bought my Patriot from, I went back to Behind Bars for thoses bits that I needed done, but didn’t have the tools for, and didn’t want to bodge. However, with them going bust, I was left in the dark, until I discovered Doug at Dales… what a mechanic…. no need to look elsewhere!

    Hi,

Rode a rental Cadabra in Afan back in November, felt quite sketchy in the carpark, but out on the trails, it relaxed into the downhills on W2 and felt quite good.

We then spoke to the mechanic when handing it back in, and he said that they were very hard on their bearings… which ended my liking of the bike!

    Hope this helps,

gotta agree with imnotamused, been on 3 summer biking hoildays with them, all 3 to le chamois in les gets, accom was ok for what we paid for, food was ok, biking was great.. it wasn’t their fault that it rained big style the last time we were there, and it’s not their fault that the french have been arresting the guides. my first trip had 4/6 of guided days and that was great. if you wanna go posh, go elsewhere, if you wanna go and do outside activities, and crash, probably well drunk at nights, alp elements are ok. buy the staff a beer or 2, you get added onto the “staff beer” list to pay half price!

clippers for me too… and I even ask myself silly questions like ” are you going on holiday?” and then don’t listen to my replies, for that full hairdresser experience.

And to the lads who spend £10 and upwards cos the girl is fit… I mean really, cut your own hair and then pop down the local **AHEM* “Gentleman’s” Club!

at work, at my desk… quiet.

I always think, that the silence is in honour of the poor souls who fought and died for your right to decide whether to remember them or not. It’s not if you believe in what the government says is their justification for being there, just the poor souls who’s final breath was in a muddy field, the other side of the world from their loved ones, standing up for us! Just my opinion!

can you not get to it and the end of plora craig you hit the fireroad, and instead of going right to caddon bank, go left up the hill…. then you get the whole of the red route plus the top section of make and brake

as far as I remember, the black option is the original part of the trail, they then built the red option to open the trail up to more riders, that and sculpting the chicken runs on cadon bank to make them more obvious

GeeTee1972 – sorry bud, just a dumb-ass salesman, not a metallurgist. I know the very basic principles, but that’s it… but sometimes metals crack due to heating/cooling, and stress, so heat the brakes up on a descent, splash through deep puddles etc…

sorry guys, I sell stainless steel for a miserable living!

    gordonb
    Free Member

as far as I am aware, dics are made from a “Martensitic” grade of stainless steel, because martensitic grades can be machined to shape in a soft condition, and then be heat treated to a harder condition. The down side to martensitic grades is that their corrosion resistance is not as good as the Austenitic grades ( 3-4, 316 etc). Which is also why the blades on your kitchen knives, which are matensitic, will corrode long before the forks, which are 18/10 ( austenitic ).

Learn the basic chords, and depending on your music style, learn the barre chords.. and then use http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ or any other guitar tab website to bluff your way through the song you want to play

the noise of the turbo trainer is nothing compared to the tv playing the Metallica and Anthrax videos… and you can get a bloody hard 45-60 min work out, knowing all you have to do is fall off the bike and crawl into the shower when it all gets too hard… I seem to have a degree of perverse self preservation when biking that means I’ll happily take any drop, but will always leave plenty of energy in reserve to get me home.. so a turbo trainer at home means I can go for broke!

had to double park at the hub for a quick toilet stop, a wee spin round Inners XC, and even though there was an uplift day there, only 5 other people on the route, and then popped back to GT for a blast round the red route… sitting on the sofa enjoying some real ale, before cooking steak and tatties for dinner. Depending of the wind, a road ride tomorrow!

Road riding is great.. hours of puttling along, your never-ending MP3 player ( singing to yourself ), sight-seeing, sunshine on your skin, if we ever get any, and a silent, smooth running bike… ohh I also enjoy railing my patriot..

I'm so gonna be flamed for this, but, as a newbie to road riding, I went to buy a bike with a compact on it, but ended up getting a triple because that was all they had left in the shop. But, I quite like it because I have my 50 for downhill and flat roads, my 39 for those undulating ones, and my 30 for when I really need to MTFU, or has bitten off more that I can chew. I don't really see the disadvantages of the triple, other than the few grammes the 30 tooth weighs, and frankly, if you finish your ride with any water left in your bottle, that's about the same weight.

Right, fire proof suit on.. show me the error of my ways!
