yup, I agree, shorter the mech cage, the sharper the shifting, and the less metal to get caught. you’ll prob not notice the difference when new if you’ve changed from a med to a long cage, it’s more when they get old and “baggy”
Dont know where you are, but check out your local Metal Supermarket. They specialise in small offcuts. More likely to be imperial dimensions in this country, and in grade 6063T6 for such a small profile. 6082, uk equivalent of 6061 is a structural grade. Bigger firms like aalco, Blackburns, and rightons will want to flog youa 5mtr length minimum
the bloke I see most mornings pushing his singlespeed up Glasgow road heading towards East Kilbride, normally at the top of Greenlees road has to be a STWer
after looking at the old patriot frame, and seeing the carnage on the down tube, I cut and fitted a section of old tyre from the mech on the seat tube round and up the down tube to take the brunt of the damage on the new 5 frame. Might not look bling, but it does protect!
I’ve got a triple on the roadie, it’s a 50/39/30, which since I very rarely use the granny, means I’m running a double with a “get me home if I’m broken” bail out option…
silly point, if you know where the cat lives, have you tried MTFU and go round to ask the owners if theres anything can be done…. reason I say this is I did MTFU after raging at mrs B about the “residue” on the grass, she “sent” me round, and they now keep the cat in….. oh, I was getting sloppy residue at least once a week and it was really interfering with my “new bike” photos!!!!
I was at the Glasgow velodrome this afternoon to watch the Thunderdrome, and Sir Chris was warming up, and they played that clip on the big screen… felt sorry for the big lad… he looked embarrassed!
cheers chaps, old git, it was gc in tours I was referring to, Mrs B has just read Armstrongs book, and asked me about Lance sending Kevin Livingston up the road to sit on Zulle’s wheel whilst the Posties pulled Lance during the 99 tour. The book claimed that it made it harder for Zulle to pull up the road. I was just wondering if there was a physical disadvantage to having a rider sitting on the wheel, instead to a psychological one.
stevemtb, yeah, I get that, but if the rival buggers off on an attack, and is on his own, and the leader sends one of his guys off to sit on his wheel, is there any disadvantage to the rival having someone on his wheel, or is it just as a plan b in case the leader doesn’t catch back up?
so you can tell which are your and which are the wifes as you’re dragging them out of the clean wash basket…. it’s not good wearing the wifes… need I say chafing!
Fergal, surely the most awkward trail centre feature is the Devil’s Chessboard at Laggan Black. The GT black shoot just involves not freaking out whilst semi-endo-ing the bike…
