Everything you'll ever need to know. Google for the Club Arnage Guide too. This year's not yet out, but 2009 still relevant.

Have fun! I went for the first time last year, and am going again this year. An amazing event.

Me to my 3 year old daughter:

Dad – "What have you been doing?"

    Daughter – "Looting"

I don't know why but I'm absolutely pissing myself laughing at this one!

56 plate Megane here from new. Only ever stalled it when it was my fault. Electrics no problem for me. Brakes were harsh when I started driving it, but I'd forgotten about that until it was mentioned here.

If anyone ever claims the rear window opened on it's own I know why….;O)

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to remember they were there….

This thread raises the question "Why on Earth do people own dogs?"

Well, it gives you the chance to cooperate and build a two-way relationship with an entirely different species, built on trust and understanding. But in my case, mostly because Ted makes me laugh like a drain every day.

EDIT: Now I've seen Richc's answer, I prefer that! 😆

And, when it comes to lurchers, for this:

    Is there a worse smell.

Yes, there is. Decomposing fox. Our dalmatian of years ago was caught roling a in a fox corpse. We were retching as we walked him home. Despite several baths his white fur was stained green, yellow and brown until he moulted the hairs out.

We were on Houx Annexe last year. Because we are not arriving until Friday, and couldn't guarantee a numbered pitch we have booked the Travel Destinations private camp site on the Porsche Curves. We don't want to turn up and find a tree in the middle of the pitch, or be right next to the bogs!

Funnily enough I get hayfever in the UK but didn't suffer at while we were over there last year.

No special wheels for us, but as I'm going with my best mate I will be getting the Megane stickered up this year.

Went last year for the first time, after wanting to go for 35 years. My wife booked it as a 40th birthday present. The most incredible event I've ever been to. Just booked this year's trip on Wednesday.

    Can't wait!

Goon, nice dog indeed, apparently I have to ask if he would answer to Ted…

Occasionally, when it suits him. How did you know? (Is that Maisie from Gap / Lurcher Link? If so I can guess how you know Ted. :-))

Not a terrier man at all, but the borders are so lovely.

Tony_m – We owned a liver spot dalmatian some years ago. He was a true gentleman among dogs.

If anyone else posts pics of Border Terrier pups I'm going to get this thread deleted for the sake of my bank account and marriage.

8 0r 9 hours is too long for a lone dog without a visit, in my opinion. On the weeks I am on earlies, I go home for lunch to play with Ted and let him out for the toilet. He has two hours of walks every day, rain or shine to ensure he is worn out and happy.

As for suffering alone, well that will laregly depend on the dog. Good exercise, a good routine and the right dog and you will be fine. I've often left a webcam on Ted and he does exactly the same on his own as when we are in – sleeps like he's dead.

Has to be a sighthound of some description, lurcher, longdog or pure breed. I absolutely must have a deer or wolfhound at some point.

I've 'met' Mr. Magoo! (He was in his run and snuffled up to the mesh.) He was at Roden when we were looking for a hound after Ali died in 2006.

Daisy , there are quite a few rescues who organise hiring an indoor horse training area for dogs with no recall to charge about in safety. Lurcher Link also have 'fun' coursing and racing quite regularly at the track at Highgate near Rotherham.

It might be worth joining up there and at Greyhound Gap to keep an eye on the events that are being planned.

I expect you have also read Walking Ollie?

It's a great read, and owning a mental longdog who is part Saluki, very comforting. When Ted's saluki traits come to the fore I take great solace in thinking how much worse it could be if he was full saluki 😆

There's a sequel called 'Along Came Dylan' which is also a fun read. The American edition (retitled 'Fetching Dylan') has a much better photograph on the cover 😉 😉

Ali the lurcher, died in 2006. He was a Dog's Trust hound, and set us on our way in the lurcher world. The steadiest, most trustworthy dog I ever met.

Ted the longdog. Total opposite to Ali. Over-endowed with enthusiasm, under-burdened by intelligence. An absolute clown of a dog, sprung from a local pound by Greyhound Gap when he had 2 days to live. He hates hot air balloons.

    Great thread!

More likely to be redwings or fieldfares. Both types of thrush, but are winter visitors. They do flock together.

Tried to resist further off-topic pics, but I'm a lurcher nut.

    This is Ted the londog.

As to original post, many dogs will live outside fine most of the time, but prolonged cold of this depth is asking a lot for them to cope with in my opinion. It depends very much on their breed and the quality of their bedding and kennel I suppose.

See if the vet will come to you.

Yep, we have a great vet and when it came time for our lurcher Ali to go a few years ago he made a house call. Ali was very afraid of visiting the vet, and I didn't want my last memories of him to be of his fear. He died calmly in his bed while I stroked his head. Said my goodbyes and left the room so the vet could carry him away without me seeing.

It's the last and most selfless act of kindness you can make for your dog.

    What the hell is Ted?
He looks like a "cut and shut"!

He's a longdog (sighthound X sighthound), pretty sure he's a well stirred mix of greyhound / saluki / deerhound.

33 kilos, nearly three feet tall at his ears, and three brain cells (not all pulling in the same direction)

We always give Ted a little more food at each meal in the winter. He does more running in the fields because it's colder, and needs more energy to keep warm and for putting his winter thatch on.

I was devastated at half 7 this morning when I found my school wasn't closing

Don't take this personally, but the use of this word is really starting to grate here. Just how could you describe your feelings if something really bad happened. Or are we all living on a plateau of devastated feelings?

It's a really minor one I know, ever so petty. But people that sit at traffic lights with their foot on the brake, dazzling everyone behind.

I'm with you there Crazy Legs. When they compound that with pulling up short behind the car stopped in front, then pull forward the last few feet before stopping properly, gives me the raging arsehole. You can end up yards behind the queue some times.

Nope. Lurchers and greyhounds are notoriously bad swimmers, due to their low body fat I believe.

Ted (big lurcher) once decided to lean down to get a drink from the canal, and promptly fell in. He disappeared from view, I assume touched bottom, and came out vertically, like a polaris missile and landed on the towpath.

He can swim, but it's all application, and no talent.

Not looking before he leaps, and finding the beach drops quite steeply.

Is it Zara Phillips, or is it the horse?
Is it Zara Phillips, or is it the horse?
    Which one's actually talented?

Is it Zara Phillips, or is it the horse?
Or is it in fact a bit of both?
Or is it the fact that she can afford
A really really really really good horse?

People on the forum are saying that Paypal dispute is only effective if it's an ebay transaction. Not sure if that's true, as I've never had to lodge a complaint before.
