Grease guns haven’t been supplied with new SC bikes for well over a year.
Generally they come with the black Santa Cruz wash type bag, some frame rub patches, Rockshox info sheet (if applicable, inc volume spacers) & a spare mech hanger, but even that isn’t always-there wasn’t one with today’s Highball.
There isn’t an owners manual/warranty card or anything like that.

Go classic & give Challenge Grifo’s a try, quick & grippy unless it’s really sloppy.
Conti’s make some of the worst CX tyres i’ve ever had the misfortune to ride on-terrifiying how little grip they have on anything other than clean dry tarmac!

Can you “air can service” a Fox transfer?

    Don’t know yet.
The question as been asked & we’ve requested dealer workshop training & currently waiting to hear if/when that can happen

As above, they’re a moving component, so need servicing.
I’m a fan of the Reverb, because yes although it has it’s issues (no more than most of the others)
It can be serviced in the shop without the need to send it off, so same day repair=customer isn’t without
their bike. Has to be one of the best reasons for it.
Having said that, the Fox Transfer feels amazing & won’t drop if you rip the hose off with it being cable operated.

Ih ad a nightmare one a few weeks ago-1/2″ drive Snap on breaker bar just rounded the remnants of the bolt, so had to resort to drilling & stud extractors.
Don’t know what it is with some of the RF ones!

Sounds very much like a kink in the hose in the seat tube when it’s put back into the bike-we see it every week in the workshop.
Either that or too much grease internally, not allowing the correct oil flow, although we’ve only ever seen that once on a brand new post.

You can listen to music whilst racing?

Sticking pivot in the rear mech-works under tension when in the outer ring, doesn’t want to play when you drop it into the inner.
Might not be it, but something I’ve seen a few times.

Bit torn between Bronson and nomad myself and not overly clear with all the version numbers. Anyone got a crib sheet? Might be about April before the current situation gets cleared up.

Bronson: Alloy available as frame only or various builds
    C-availble as complete builds only
CC-availble as complete builds or frame only.

    Nomad: No alloy version
    C-complete builds only
    CC-Complete builds or frame only.

Some of the replies do make me chuckle when it comes to Reverbs.
Yes it can be fixed by a decent shop without sending it off.
In theory it sounds like a warranty claim, very straight forward & easily felt with, but obviously you would be without it while it’s away.
This is why we usually fix in house, especially if a customer wants a quick turn around we usually sort it the same day.

There are all sorts of rumours around a new Nomad at the moment, but in reality they’re keeping a very closely guarded secret like they often do.
Nobody outside of the SC inner circle knows the details AFAIK.
A new one is expected at some point this year, but in reality nobody knows.
Depending on what sort of riding you do, the Hightower is one hell of a bike & the popular SC for us at the moment. Have you demo’d one?

Have you tried your friendly local bike shop?
Usually something that’s knocking around a spares box in the workshop-I know I have if you’re anywhere near Shrewsbury?

Two weeks withdrawal according to the sports nutritionist I spoke to-I weened myself off it entirely to ensure I got the best possible effect from caffeine gels during a big event.

The brake lever you now have is ispec 2, sounds like you need ispec B, the two aren’t interchangeable.

    Fair enough.
We’ve had a few sent back & one set were returned saying the top caps weren’t torqued correctly, they’d tightened them & they went quiet.
Several on in house service haven’t been tight enough either, so it was worth a mention.

    goldenwonder

    Why would I do that?
It’s online ordering-you search for the part or type in the part number & press confirm order, it’s hardly rocket science!

Check the top caps are tight-not all creaky RS forks are caused by the CSU.

Or go on the b2b website

That’s something the man off the street can do? Not the original owner?
Re read the post & you’ll see I suggest going to a dealer-the bike shop, it’s a wonderful invention.

I remember reading that lapierre wouldnt supply parts to anyone who wasn’t the original owner. I decided then I’d avoid lapierre new or used.

    Well that sounds like bollocks.

Seems like a classic case of misreading something online, then taking it as fact

Nope, was an actual thing where someone off here couldn’t get hold of a replacement seat/chain stay from love nor money. iirc he wasn’t even asking for warranty.

Heard very similar things about Santa Cruz too

    EDIT: wot he says ^
No problems at all with either-go through a dealer for the relevant brand, the pick the phone up or go on the B2B website, order parts & assuming in stock a day or two later parts arrive.
That’s how it’s been for the last 3 1/2 years that I’ve dealt with both Lapierre & SC anyway, both original owner & previously used bikes we’ve had through the workshop & supplying parts on request.
Maybe it’s the dealer you’re using that isn’t great?
Unless it’s an older model & sometimes they just stop supporting models completely.

Setting the IFP height IS critical-if you want the post to work properly & achieve full drop again.
Not difficult, just a bit time consuming the first few times & can be a bit messy.
Yes, do be aware of the inner seal head that & poppet valve that might try & take your head off if air is trapped.

    goldenwonder

It’s an hour or so’s job to do a full strip & rebuild with new seals.
For some reason they seem to replace them under warranty rather than fix them.

If it’s out of warranty, not a major task, just might cost you £50

    I’m not in 🙁
Gutted, as I’m fitter than I’ve ever been this year coming off a good cx season last winter & some nice events so far this.
    Still, there’s always next year..

I’m running the 2016 34’s with the FIT4 damper & it’s worlds apart from the 2013/14 CTD that weren’t the greatest..
It’s like a trail version of the 36. Really, really impressed.

Even the latest ones with the reinforced ring at the bottom?
    I’m impressed!

The Etape ends in Morzine on the 10th July, so have a look at that route & see if you can put something together based on that? Might be one to avoid on the day though..

Dragon Duathlon for me yesterday, so a day off today-my knee’s still feel like they’re about to explode!
290km from Beaumaris to Cardiff Bay, running the Welsh 3 Peaks & riding in between.

Mine needs them now after about 8 months, there’s play & they creak, but i’m a jet washer, so my own fault.
We see loads through the workshop where the customer says they’re fine, but remove the bolts & the bearings are often seized, they just don’t realise until they’re changed & notice the difference.

Rear is IS mount frame, fork depends on which one you have, if it’s the 36, then it’s direct PM for 180, so it’s a +20mm, or usually marked as 180 PM (to go to 200mm front)

You’ll find that it fits most with the different adaptors & a damn sight safer than clamping the top tube!

Sad to say, but probably badly built.
If the spoke tension was correct & even, correct length spokes used then there’s really no other reason for it.
Worst case they should’ve used Spoke Freeze to prevent it from happening.

    Which version were they?
I swapped from Shimano to CB last CX season for improved mud shedding as I was fed up of not being able to clip in when it got sticky during races.
I’ve got them on two bikes, one did 18 races, the other 14 & both are still buttery smooth despite jet washing after every race & 3/4 times during each race for the second half of the season.

The TCR takes some beating to be fair.
Having said that I’m a Giant fanboy, but currently riding & racing a 2016 Cube Litening C62-the geometry has come on loads & now rides like a proper race bike.

I’m surprised they haven’t been in to see us yet to borrow one for a mould.
Are you local to Shrewsbury then Singspeedstu?

    goldenwonder

Then I’d say they haven’t done the mould yet.
I know the guys at Rockguardz as they’re local to me & as soon as they can they get the moulds done.
I’ll ask them when I see them.

I’ve even seen Enve’s (genuine) melt even with the correct pads..
You sure about that? You really haven’t. Science eduction today…..

This is not why folk ‘fear’ carbon rims on long descents.

I’m old fashioned though, I still find the idea of using zipps outside of race day bizarre.

Pretty sure what I saw with my own eyes..
They were on a club outing over there for a few days & it warped & deformed. Maybe ‘melted’ was a touch strong.

I’ve seen all sort of people have problems with all sorts of wheels in the alps.
Given how poor the braking is on carbon rims compared to alloy, I won’t run carbon in the mountains & the fact I’ve even seen Enve’s (genuine) melt even with the correct pads..

I prefer with slightly more in negative

    There’s part of you problem.
By design, a dual air fork will suck itself down if you run more pressure in the negative chamber.

There isn’t that much that’s ‘cheeky’ tbh.
There were a few bits in the forest at the glider club end, but most of that’s now been ruined by motorbikes
    🙁
It’s not the best place in the world for ‘gnar to the power of max styleee’ riding, just proper xc with stunning views IMO.
