I know, I’ve got some of those Shimano SPD ones that look like road pedals for her now.

But your Wilier is running Campag, how very dare you mix the two in any type, shape or form!!

    Thomson do a 410.
BBB & Gusset both do 450mm, but I don’t know if they do 26.4mm.

They’re a very capable bike when you get the hang of them.
I took mine round one of my usual loops after finishing building it to get used to it before racing the following weekend.
Best thing I ever did though was buy a set of Challenge Grifo tyres-they’re awesome! Only thing better would be Dugasts, but I’m not running tubs.

The way that dual air Rockshox work, whenever negative pressure is greater than positive, it will pull it down. The greater the difference, the more it will do it.
Did you drop all the pressure out of both chambers first? Preferably negative first.

The ‘give’ will be the tyre slipping on the roller. Should be tight enough to stop it slipping, without being so tight that it wears the tyre too quickly. Trainer tyre might be worth a try too-specific for the job.

You can get replacement NRS shocks from Giant, I did one only this week on a Composite from 2004. Just need to talk to a dealer.

I’d drop all the air out of both chambers then start again. Positive needs to be pumped up first, then negative, or the floating air piston will pull the forks down.
    Hope that makes sence!?

Flights & hotel sorted?? You are very organised!
We’re driving down again this year (all 926 miles of it) & will be camping somewhere near the start & then again at the finish (Etape on a shoestring..)

Think you probably want the forum next door>
Or you might get a better answer by asking Mytyres & not a cycling forum? Just a thought 😉

Open Pros usually if running clinchers, Reflex if tubs. Unless you’re after something a little more flash? Mate of mine runs Ksyriums, but can get a bit costly when the rims wear out or if you crash a lot!

Haven’t done the 3 countries, but went to Chamonix with MBMB a few(several) years ago & couldn’t fault them.

Black spokes if a decent quality (DT, Sapim) Don’t scratch easily at all.
They don’t take any longer to build but are more expensive to buy, hence why a build with black cost more. The’re around twice the price of silver (DT are anyway) to buy in.

Was going to, but not now as I’m not fit enough & skint!
Hoping to make home pierpont next round though.
I’ll be there on an old empella wearing saddle Skedaddle kit.

but my wheelbuilder said they were horrible to build as they were not round and even flared out

I was the said wheel builder & in theory they’re great, nice & light, but wide enough & cheaper alternative.
In reality they’re a poor quality rim (IMO) not exactly round to begin with & bulged out sideways at the join! Not to mention the flat spot at the same point.
If they could be made the right shape to begin with, then they’d be a good compromise, but bear in mind these were redrilled to get the ofset something close.

About right for a lot of manufacturers.
Giant are very similar with moving dates, as were Felt.

Wheels were a complete Git to build, with them being redrilled to get the offset, the angle the nipples come through the rim isn’t great & the rims are the most non round rims I’ve ever built!
Pictures don’t really do it justice though, it does look better in reality than the pictures (well, did until he bolted all the rest of the guff to it)

The ‘old’ Anthem, 2009 Advanced & love it, although am toying with the idea of moving to an Anthem X.

They may be part of our history but that is not a justification for them to exist in built up areas.

    Keep them in the countryside.

So if us horsey folk keep our stuff in the country side out of harms way, to prevent you from being offended by a bit of munched up grass on the floor, you’ll stay away from the countryside?
Sounds like a good deal to me.

Any normal bolt supplier will probably be able to sort one for you, if not try Mojo or TF Tuned.

Just be open & honest about it with the dealer & Giant, it’s always been the best way from whenever I’ve dealt with them.
They guys at Giant are very fair people.
If you come up with some cock & bull story, they’ll see straight through it.
Also a very strong chance someone from Giant is reading this thread right now.

rkk01, if you’re that concerned about it being ‘fit for purpose’ which you seem to be given you’ve spoekn about it in two different threads on the same frame?
Why not contact Giant about it & have a chat with them?
Warrantly wise, Will is right (so he should be, I tought him)
Take it back to the dealer you bought it from with proof of purchase & leave it at that, the dealer will (should) do thier bit & a new frame will arrive in around 3-5 working days (assuming it is a genuine claim, impossible to tell without being able to inspect the frame)

My wife drives me home. No way I’d be able to drive home after a 24hr Solo, it’s hard enough driving after a team effort!

From that comment I assume you believe anything other than Park kit is shite… I doubt there’s much that would change your mind then…

Not at all, some of the Park stuff is very highly priced & alternatives can be found, but good quality tools are more expensive than cheap ones for a reason.
Park aren’t the only people who make good quality cycle tools, Cyclo, Pedro, VAR, Campag all do very good bike specifc stuff & for more general tools I tend to use Snap On, Facom or Mac. My personal prefernce being Snap On for much of it, nothing to do with brand snobbery, i just prefer they way the tools feel, the build quality & the warranty should anything go wrong.

cookea, I’ll assume from that you don’t use decent quality tools then?
I’ve had more than my share of ‘Laser’ et al tools over the years, then went on to the likes of Snap On, Park etc. & the difference if noticable, in terms of quality, how the fit fasteners (when using Allen keys, spanners) & the life span.

Have you done Black Rocks/Shining Cliff/Crich Chase? If not it may be qorth getting a local to show you around.

There isn’t anything to ride around there. Honestly it’s rubbish. Not worth even trying it… 😉

I’ve built several sets, not difficult. Drop me an email if you want to, or just a decent LBS that has a good reputation for quality builds.

    6 complete & another 2 in bits.
A good rule to follow: Number of bikes required=N+1 where N is number of bikes currently owned.

Depends on the bike, on my Anthem I never do as it’s a twin bolt clamp, on my 456 I do if I can be bothered, but has to be steep as I’m too lazy most of the time!

interestingly too seemed to be very little oil in lowers only 20 hr after purchase

I should hope so, there shouldn’t be much oil in the lowers anyway.
I’ve never had a problem not being able to engage the bolt though, so can’t really help on that one.

It does take some practice & isn’t easy in every car. My track car it is easy, but I’ve had nine years to get used to it, where as my daily driver is a bloody nightmare to get it right.

    Tyre logos/valves
Different brand tyre front & rear? Is that allowed?

Find them more of a mud/general gloopy winter tyre than anything else.
Wouldn’t really go for them as a specific rock/roots type tyre.
If you do find something that’ll grip on slimy rocks & roots though, let me know!

Fair enough, serves me right for not reading the thread properly!
Just had a quick look, similar to the Quaife ATB’s then? Very nice, didn’t know such a things existed for a LR.
    School day for me then.

I’ve been with them for three years & can’t fault them!
Only had one problem when I couldn’t get a connection, engineer out next day, said the fault was at a local exchange, fixed & up & running within an hour.
Don’t work for, or have anything whatsoever to do with Virgin, but I do need a good, relaible connection as work from home & it’s the best there is around here IMO.
