The mistake I had made here is that imagining someone so daft would correct for the lens….

In being really late to this party I may be repeating someone else here, but…

You can prove the world is round really easily: Buy/borrow a GoPro, get hold of a tank of helium and a massive baloon and a simple homing device.

Release the balloon and retrieve the GoPro when it returns to earth.

    See for yourself!

Many people have done exactly this including schools. It’s not hard.

I hear you Ragga, but you could have a regulation circuit that’s just not doing the job well enough, I.E. not enough/fast enough capacitors leading to too much ripple, or, not enough current capacity without a voltage drop.

Put it this way, if the dynamo can actually deliver the current required, I see no reason why we can’t get it working…. If you’d like to try to do it like that, let me know.

Surely this can be fixed with a regulator* and capacitor circuit?

Should be lighter than a battery, no?

    I mostly:

Mess around on the internets [who knew?]
    Listen to music
    Watch a fillum
Poss go for a walk/ride [not very inspired right now]
    4:20
    Veg. out
    Geek out [electronics, computers etc]
Cuddle a rabbit or watch the fish

Oh, and try to get my end away, obvs 😀

EDIT – Break the forum! Arrrgh I thought that was fixed 🙁

Surely the trick, as has been alluded-to, is to ensure you’re never invited again. How you do that is up to you and your respect for your reputation!

Perhaps slightly OT, but not entirely:

On my 9 month cycle tour I took a Mk 1 Hope 1, loads of good AA batts (2000mAh+, low self discharge) and a pair of simple solar chargers. This allowed battery swapping on the fly with the light, my Fuji camera, the radio and probably other things I have forgotten.

Admitidly it was a really sunny part of the world, but it was bloody useful.

I’ve succesfully downgraded “acceptable” to “terrible” and turned “ass kickin new kit” into “acceptable”

It could be worse, I’m sure many of us have outright broken something. Years ago I took my rather new Geforce GTS out, cleaned the dust off it without earthing myself and it never worked again.

    I was, eeer, angry.

    I don’t think that’s a real lizard.

I suggest you consult a vet and perhaps seek a refund from the shop.

Uh huh, could be the cable, or a dry joint or…well lots of things. Hence the suggestion to test the inverter.

Eliminating possibilities is the way to go.

    Good Luck

I have experienced this problem on Mac, Windows 7, Windows Mobile 8, Linux, Android 2-6, Chrome, FireFox, Android Browser, Chrome OS, Cellular network, Cable Modems, Phoneline connections, in the UK and the Netherlands.

I really don’t think it’s us, it’s either your software or some user accounts that are the problem.

Yeah it’s not the end of the world, but it’s really annoying. Especially when you have a very slow internet connection* – I want to use the forum as it’s mostly text, but then it logs out and makes me wait some considerable time to load the page.

*This isn’t your problem, but it makes it more annoying.

IME this can be caused by the PSU. Any different unplugged?

I think you need to Google the pinout of the inverter board and its expected output voltages and try to test them outputs relative to ground.

It would be good to know the voltage, yes, but likely with a decent meter that going over the voltage range on the 750V (or similar Max V) setting will just cause an OV (over voltage) sign on the screen and do no damage.

It may be over volts… but that just means its working 😉

Suggestion – while high voltage low current supplies are usually relatively harmless*, if in doubt keep your left hand in your pocket, so if you get a shock its not going across your heart.

*for a given value of harmless which may be >0 if you have a pacemaker

Aaahhhh.. I can still hear the syren call of my Motorola… “116 where the **** are you”

Probably sitting in a doorway thumbing through the A2Z while smoking my 12th singleskin of the day 😀

I often made about £20 but got well fit for my impending cycle tour 😀

    I think it’s likely.

Maybe you can test where the problem lies with a multimeter?

    Things to try:

    Clean and dry the trackpad.
Disconnect the power supply – does it stop?

    gofasterstripes

Yes, the inverter powers the HV fluorescent tube, nothing to do with the image/LCD.

From here I’m just guessing, but yeah the tube may flicker when first powered then drop out… Think of a striplight that needs a new starter/bulb (same tech I think).

    Good advice.

Check iFixit for the takeapart instructions [get the correct model].

EDIT – speaking of screwdrivers – also check you have the correct ones, Apple uses a lot of weird screws!

I’m so confused… You tried it in another computer and you think the mains cable is to blame?

If you moved it another machine, then its likely that, not the mains extension.

In that case the PSU is so dumb its not short-circuit protected and there’s a short or something??!
