Actually this really interests me. Why do some people assume that there is no such thing as altruism? My thoughts were along the lines of “doubtless she’ll be angry, but I don’t care if she is cross with me if it is of benefit to another”.

Now, this may be a form of transparent self-delusion, was I not aware of my own subconscious impulse – make myself feel good by imparting the advice? Or could it be that I really want to be of use in the world? Might there be a possibility of a good outcome? Yes! Might it me slim? Yes! Might I get a punch in the chops? Yes!!

Still the thoughts and motivations of both myself and the woman are, well, interesting to me 🙂

Been a bit busy with the sub. I finally fully understood the design and was able to make some simple mods:

1 – flip it on it’s side
2 – remove the sleeping bag and replace with carpet lining and a couple of little wads of tightly wrapped fabric sort of smooth the corners in the cab.
3 – flip the drivers
4 – carefully stuff the last tapering part with hollowfibre to an even and fairly tight fill
5 – remove the rabbit from the mouth of the horn

I didn’t stretch the carpet across the mouth of the horn, that seems odd to me.

Sounds good, faster and with more slam. More even response too, though my listening position has a huge suckout around 45-52Hz, nowt I can about that :/
response is now pretty even from 28-80Hz, apart from a few ripples. Next – get a job and buy/build a x-over.

EDIT – not sure how accurate this is anyhow, amplifier terminal voltage fell from 2.5V to 0.5V between 8 and 17KHz.

This is more like it 😀 Even done in an anechoic room, with a spring-isolated floor and special headphones.

Max out at 17K with proper speakers. 32 this week.

Who is actually using speakers with a decent response? If you’re listening from a laptop etc you’re probably mostly hearing overtones and distortion.

NB – if you can’t hear a high frequency signal, don’t stick your ear right over a ceramic tweeter or it will feel like someone’s just shoved a hot poker in your ear.

OK so I b0rked my W7 install and tried W10.

Seems to work OK on my X58 board. Spying and prompting and returning settings I have overridden is happening as advertised.

Quite frankly it’s usable, but sets a dangerous precedent.

Microsoft really doesn’t give a tiny hint of a shit about users any more, we’re in for a rougher ride than ever in that respect.

I cannot be arsed to benchmark it. Seems the same, and certainly makes no difference to CPU bound tasks. Under the hood, it’s a rotten cludge in some respects, especially the control panel. Looks like a joke. When Mint XFCE looks more finished than Windows, we’re through the looking glass.

@BA – No, but as is the wont of Microsoft at the moment, you’ll be bullied to set one up in several ways. FFS it tried to force that on me when I set up the user accounts, and again when I added another.

Heh. Looks like the yellow one also supports heated pizza delivery boxes. Perhaps a new career* is another option.
