    Two things:

    On topic –

    https://tech.slashdot.org/story/16/07/27/1714213/you-cant-turn-off-cortana-in-the-windows-10-anniversary-update
…more bullshit, more overriding of users’s settings and wishes. Been here before haven’t we?

Off topic – my gods you should see how much faster W7 is on that laptop since I replaced the drive* and did a reinstall. I appreciate your technical know-how Cougar, but most users will install piles of stuff onto their machines, many of which will try to load at boot creating more HDD thrashing. Memory in use has dropped a bit too, because there are less threads running. Yes yes, disk cache etc, but memory in use is related to how many processes/threads are running and that’s the real problem with old installs.

*with a slower one, because that’s what I had.

You think that’s weird, you wait til they upload the new streeview image of my shirt….

EDIT – This still makes me chuckle, 8 years[!] later 🙂

Judging by the length of the exposure [1/1600] and the protruberences, it’s got to be a small thiing very close to the lens and moving rapidly. Slightly red at the front, legs sticking back etc. Shiny too.

Or it’s a flying sheeps’ head.

    Dunno.

Not a lot of default settings on my board, homie

Anyway I think Harry’s gonna be fine so, I’ll put my handbag away 🙂

I guess it depends on the board. I just took the battery out of my board and unplugged it and only changed the time 😛

TBF I know it’s flash memory, 8mb on this board.

I doubt you’ll lose any settings, as it takes power to erase them – hence having to use a jumper to wipe them by connecting power from the battery to the CMOS_Erase pin.

I pondered suggesting doing it with the machine connected to power, but if you fumble the battery you could short something and cause damage. I’d risk losing the time and do it plugged-in but switched off at the socket.

You can correct the time manually after reboot, any problems should go away after you correct it.

    Just change it, it’s easy.

Shut the PC down and switched off at the mains, but leave it plugged-in. This way the case is grounded to prevent static buildup while you work on the machine.

With bare arms, bare feet and a cotton shirt [no synthetics!] change the battery without moving about much. Put the new battery next to the machine first to help.

That should be it. If it’s full of fluff while you’re in there maybe blow what you can out. If you happen to have a vaccum nozzle with a horsehair end, you can use that very gently to suck the fluff away. Don’t do this with plastic bristles.

    Bon Chance.

Realistically, both flies and wasps perform useful ecological functions.

Wasps hunt small beasties and as such prevent more infestation of plants, and flies larva break stuff down and are an important foodstuff for birds and such.

    However, they’re both annoying sometimes.

Apparently clear sandwich bags with some water in them hung in your window does a great job of deterring insects on bright days setting fire to your curtains.

    😛

    Well, I don’t.

I suggest people refer to the manufacturer’s advice to decide what they want to do themselves.

I wouldn’t clamp the frame as:

*This is probably not the usage case imaged when designing the layup, CF is only strong in the way it’s designed to be strong.

*Seatposts are cheaper than frames and with thicker walls as well. Mostly they’re round, unlike the frame, so bigger contact with the clamp less force/area.

Fully defensive riding, as above (changing road placement as cars pass/approach, covering brakes* as you see upcoming junction, watch the wheels at roundbouts if they’re not indicating, eye contact, always stay outside of dooring range etc etc).

Set your commuter up for surviveability- Topeak folding mirrors, epic brakes, grippy tyres and learn how to stoppie so you can brake at 100% in an emergency.

There’s only so much you can do, yes, but it’s also a lot more than nothing.

(I also don’t tailgate cars into clear roundabouts at 40kph anymore, they might stop for no discernible reason and I have had enough experience of smashing the rear window with my face. I don’t dart across gaps in traffic, you may fall over on diesel and land in the path of an oncoming bus. – these last two are my own stupidity, but worth noting perhaps)

*this also requires correct body position – don’t be standing up and stomping on the pedals when there’s a chance you have to do an emergency stop – you need to be seated and ready to transfer the weight hard backwards if you have to emergency stop.

I wager the powercontrol circuit died and roasted. Maybe the power transistor [MOSFET?] failed and did so in a way that caused thermal runaway.

Assuming you haven’t just rewired the house, I’m pretty sure you just need to go and buy another trimmer.

I’d argue that it snot really the same as injection moulding.

Either way, we need better pics 🙂

EDIT – and don’t clamp the frame, man!

    Good photos.

Looks OK to me, the centre of the tubes will be less stressed the the ends. As long as it’s not an as-light-as-we-can-make-it frame I would guess it’s absolutely fine. If it shipped with 105 I would imagine the frame is relatively basic.

@ PJM No injection molding for CF. Or was that a joke?

@bear – The saddle is part matt part gloss and the gloss bit looks odd.

@ Rubber-headed eunuch[/url] – if you’re going to post pics you need to do it in a way where the reflections aren’t so distracting; inside perhaps?
