There’s been a lot of news items recently on the software for some of the smaller Chinese brands having backdoors and or collecting data without permission. Actually the last one i read about was programmed to contact 3 adressea, but two of the coded domains were unregistered, meaning if another person/company registered those domains they’d just get your data and probably an easy way to break in to your phone too.

This is all somewhat alarmist, and i doubt other brands are blameless.

I strongly suggest against spending any money on a machine with an unidentified electrical problem of any sort! Much better to isolate and replace the faulty part as these things seldom don’t progress. Fist thing to check would be the BIOS as it could even be a setting or the motherboard battery…

I have to say I don’t remember what was first like that…. Under Siege – check and Faster Pussycat and/or other C5 goodies were in there. I can’t remember which film it was exactly but pre-internet I remember being very disappointed when my plan to program the VCR to record something naughty was foiled by my folks who, upon hearing it start-up at 11pm (i was in bed) investigated and cancelled the recording 🙁 I have a feeling that the result was the titles for the film then a flicker and after that some news programme or something. Though you may wish to check rotor size – I think avid used to use an xx5mm rotor when everyone else used xx0mm so you maybe need to buy new rotors or adapters at least.

It could be structural, either:

A – avoiding a long straight stay which may be quite weak
B – avoiding a sharp curve close to the pivot
