Back on the starry/wormy crack that is slither.io
Dread Pirate Roberts – fear me :P
gofasterstripesFree MemberRight – this is only a preview, I’ve still got only about 3 hours on them.
The MT5 is flippin’ excellent. Very powerful indeed [180mm front will lift you up with a single finger squeeze, not even a tug] and extremely smooth. I can now stoppie better than I ever have been able before and I’m woefully out of practice! The lever>caliper power delivery is very linear as far as I have tested. The brakes are not grabby, they just decelerate you as hard as you require. There is some flex, but it seems to me the system flex actually works with the design to prevent too much initial bite.
I have been able to position the levers how I wanted, though I run my brakes a little further out than some people [where 190% imgonnadieifidontstop force = levers parallel to bars]. I quite like the shape of the levers, they seem fine for one finger hook-end braking. I appreciate that there’s enough space for two fingers (but I think if you need two fingers you’re in the shit anyway).
They seem to make some noise when cold and wet, but dry off easily enough.
TL;DR – if you want to stop: you can. The limitation would be your lever control or front tyre traction. I also paid 109 Euro each [w/o rotor] so I think they’re a bit of a bargain.
I’ll let you know if they fall apart. I doubt it.
gofasterstripesFree MemberIf it works ok, ignore it. Most cassettes look wobbly.
gofasterstripesFree MemberBoris has it.
Ours do sleep in a hutch (double height from pets at home with staggeringly ugly picture on it) but they’re free 18 hours a day and usually go to bed happily when it’s my bed time).
Considerable further reading on rabbits : rabbit.org
gofasterstripesFree MemberFinally have the bike back! I’ll let you know how it goes :)
gofasterstripesFree MemberI have an old Marin Alpine Trail fitted with Pace RC36 forks with no mount
I can’t imagine it’s a good idea to try and use/load a carbon structure in a manner for which it was not explicitly designed. Just get another retro fork and keep/resuse/sell the RC36.
gofasterstripesFree MemberThere is one possible safety concern – if you’re sufficiently cack-handed you could over tension a spoke until it breaks and in that case it can fly out from the wheel like a spear. Keep your body/head out of the line of fire when you’re actually making them tight.
This is extremely rare, but it’s the reason wheelbuilders wear a thick apron.
gofasterstripesFree MemberAnyone found any decent G9s?
Both Osram and Philips do G9 LED replacements.
gofasterstripesFree MemberI’m generally not one to carry out animal testing, but it occurs to me, that in this case I sort-of have.
This is a 2x50w LED pack for my fishtank, here running 50w of 430 and 410nm blue LED’s.
There is also some photoreactive medicine* in the tank – rather analogous to the way the orange phosphor in white LED’s fills in the longer wavelengths.
Normally I run this at about 20w, with 50w of mixed whites (etc) as well. None of the fish seem to have any problems with their eyesight (I’m glad!)
Makes you think…
*eSHa2000 – nothing special.
gofasterstripesFree MemberStart with straight bits and don’t screw it up, easy :P
Musson’s book worked for me.
gofasterstripesFree MemberSome sort of automated system for cataloging them. Can’t google do it if you photograph each box against a white background and then do an image search for that image – hey presto – most details filled-in [via copy/paste].
If you’re selling them do they come with a touch-up kit for when the paint flakes? ;)
“photograph has the description in it” – not going to be searchable with the search function in eBay.
gofasterstripesFree MemberIf you’d just mentioned the running shorts, someone would have got it in the first post.
EDIT – it’s this guy, right?
gofasterstripesFree MemberI know it’s not strictly a redesign problem, but some of these adverts use a lot of background data in Chrome mobile…. like 4MB in 30 minutes.
Flame away, I can’t afford a P right now.
gofasterstripesFree MemberSo winters going to work and summers coming home at the moment?
In your case yes, in everyone else’s: no.
gofasterstripesFree Member“Where do I stand”
For the photo? Behind it, with your finger on the scratch a look of deep, deep disappointment on your face.
By the way – i’d bet a quid that that’s the result of a socket or driver bit sitting between the two and being squashed into/between them. Probably got packed with something there and damaged, or someone put their tool down abruptly on it. Either way I’d be pissed. It’s not a gauge – the paint has cracked away as a result of a smooth round thing being pressed against it.
Sauce –
damagedbuilt bikes for a while. Done it myself with a socket extension.gofasterstripesFree MemberI was really fond my Diamond 8’s – really musical, just severely short of bass….. but I didn’t miss it so much as the overall sounds was still really enjoyable. Pretty sure the 9 is better, though it might be smaller…… Well you say you have them already, so compare them to the Bose stuff and make your choice after that I guess.
gofasterstripesFree MemberI’m being given a couple of Bose speakers I’d quite like to use them
Hmmm. You may be disappointed.
My suggestion: Track down a scondhand cheapo amp, cash converters ebay etc etc
Try: NAD, Rotel, Cambridge Audio, Sony, Technics, Pioneer, Onkyo, Arcam, Denon, Marantz, Mission, Rega.
Within reason, newer is better [less likely to fail].
Should be able to snap something good up for <100 and sell it for about the same if you don’t like the result and switch to a soundbar etc.
gofasterstripesFree MemberIf all you want is a single vector outline I think you’ll be fine with Inkscape.
See you back here later tonight when you can’t make the pen-tool work XD
gofasterstripesFree MemberRules:
*MINIMUM tread recommended for winter tyres is 4mm
*The tyres should be fitted when the temp is below 7C and removed when the temp rises over that again.
*The wear rate for winter tyres is HIGHER than summer tyres >7c.
EDITED/reposted after checking in the book- if I’m going to try and quote something I had better get it right! I passed, but I didn’t get 100% :P
gofasterstripesFree MemberI’ve just done my Dutch Driving Theory. Rules:
*MINIMUM tread recommended for winter tyres is 4mm
*The tyres should be fitted when the temp is below 6C and removed when the temp rises over that again.
*The stopping distance for winter tyres is HIGHER than summer tyres in good weather.

From memory – the best tyres should be on the REAR of a FWD car – better to stop than to spin out.gofasterstripesFree MemberJust seeing as we’ve now mentioned phones, RAW and B&W – people who like taking photos/snaps/whatever would do well to consider the P9 if they fancy a phone with interesting imagery capabilities.
It’s no DSLR, but does have: a dedicated B&W sensor and lens, RAW output and all sorts of Leica-powered processing [optional]. Oh, and full manual control! Also Leica-designed lenses, so they’re as good as you could reasonably expect.
gofasterstripesFree MemberWhat I was mostly getting at is that if you process the image, you should be doing it on an accurate monitor. If I process on this screen, you’ll vom over your Eizo.
gofasterstripesFree MemberB&W is very interesting. It’s obviously a filter
Heh, not on my Huawei P9!
gofasterstripesFree MemberI can’t believe we’re at page three and no-one has mentioned a calibrated monitor?!?!
Unless you work on a monitor that is well calibrated when tinkering with your images, you’re going to mess them up.
Unless the persons viewing your images is doing it on a also well-calibrated monitor, then they don’t know they’re seeing the image as you did when you processed it…..
Colour calibrated printing is a given though, right??
eg – my nice Dell is broken and I am using a POS 28″ HD iiyama* – this is why you’re not seeing any comments or images from me – because I know the colours are inconsistent.
*nothing wrong with iiyama, but this one is wildly inaccurate
gofasterstripesFree Memberjust that there’s a realistic possibility that it might be
Sounds to me like a good reason to be on the streets protesting.
gofasterstripesFree Memberprotesting about a legitimately made decision because it didn’t go your way is an entirely different concept
Like Vietnam?
gofasterstripesFree MemberMarlow Stern – What are your thoughts on the rise of candidate Trump? It almost doesn’t seem real.
Trent Reznor – It is surreal. I’ll admit that I was entertained during the Republican debates and the whole process of whittling them down. It’s kind of fun to see a grenade go off and see these guys—I hate every one of them—be eliminated and humiliated. But it stopped being funny months ago. It’s sad to see the discourse be dragged this low. It’s absurd that this is even happening.
Marlow Stern – One thing that may not go away is Donald Trump, who may very well launch a TV news network with advisers Roger Ailes and Steve Bannon post-election. Are you worried about Trump’s lasting effect on the political landscape?
Trent Reznor – I’m absolutely terrified about that. Hopefully Trump will flame out any minute now, but the effect of him—or he himself—is not going to go away, and there’s going to be an awful lot of very energized followers. We all know they’re not going to say, “Well, let’s support Hillary because she’s the president now.” She’s walking into a terrible situation.”
gofasterstripesFree MemberI pushed the button and elected him to office, and
He pushed the button, and he dropped the bomb
You pushed the button, and could watch it on the television
Those mother_______ didn't last too long
I'm sick of hearing 'bout the have and have-not's
Have some personal accountability
The biggest problem with the way that we are doing things is
The more we let you have, the less that I'll be keeping for me
Well, I used to stand for something
Now I'm on my hands and knees
Turning in my god for this one
And he signs his name with a capital G
Don't give a shit about the temperature in Guatemala
Don't really see what all the fuss is about
Ain't gonna worry about no future generations
And I'm sure somebody's gonna figure it out
Don't try to tell me that some power can corrupt a person
You haven't had enough to know what it's like
You're only angry 'cause you wish you were in my position
Now nod your head because you know that I'm right, all right!
Well, I used to stand for something
But forgot what that could be
There's a lot of me inside you
Maybe you're afraid to see
Well, I used to stand for something
Now I'm on my hands and knees
Turning in my god for this one
And he signs his name with a capital G
Well, I used to stand for something
But forgot what that could be
There's a lot of me inside you
Maybe you're afraid to see
Well, I used to stand for something
Now I'm on my hands and knees
Turning in my god for this one
And he signs his name with a capital G#For G, sing T
gofasterstripesFree MemberI should have listened to her
So hard to keep control
We kept on eating, but
Our bloated belly's still not full
She gave us all she had, but
We went and took some more
Can't seem to shut her legs
Our mother nature is a whore
I got my propaganda
I got revisionism
I got my violence
In hi-def ultra-realism
All a part of this great nation
I got my fist
I got my plan
I got survivalism
Hypnotic sound of sirens
Echoing through the street
The cocking of the rifles
The marching of the feet
You see your world on fire
Don't try to act surprised
We did just what you told us
Lost our faith along the way
And found ourselves believing your lies
I got my propaganda
I got revisionism
I got my violence
In hi-def ultra-realism
All a part of this great nation
I got my fist
I got my plan
I got survivalism
All bruised and broken, bleeding
She asked to take my hand
I turned, just keep on walking
But you'd do the same thing in the circumstance
I'm sure you'll understand
I got my propaganda
I got revisionism
I got my violence
In hi-def ultra-realism
All a part of this great nation
I got my fist
I got my plan
I got survivalism
You got your pacifism - I got survivalism
