    GD:
Depends on the exact breed. Check any dog temperament guide book though and you will find references to the spectrum of traits different breeds exhibit. Dogs are generally thought of as the most physically diverse species of animal on the planet!

NB I not mean gun dogs.

My ¢2: From my training at a well known highstreet pet shop chain.

Malamutes are unpredictable and should not be around children. Same goes for Akitas and a few others.

I may be biased – because every scrote in Bradford asked me in said shop

Remarkably predictable chav/hoodie/scroat voice “I need a chain for my dog, it’s a Akita, yeah. Naaaah – not dat [Nylon coller that could restrain a bullock] I want one with studs n **%&* on in, yeah, you get me. Dis dog is bear tough yeah?”

I was really scared for their offspring- a few young women with tiny kids had Akitas. The dog would end-up twice her weight, was not going to be trained much and was feed junk-food and such would probably be about as calm as a kid with a belly full of Skittles and Monster Energy.

I’m sure there are exceptions, but the truth is some breeds of dog are innately violent, to one degree or another. EG: Akitas were bred for hunting large animals, the traits that make them suitable for this were re-crossed into their genetic make-up for hundreds of generations, and are a part of their mental make-up now. And even if it’s just a moment of temper, their physical adaptations make them able to deliver serious injuries to soft pink-skinned humans, especially little ones.

Malamutes are different yes, but have hunting and protection urges re-bred into them. They are also powerful and fast. If none of this screams “Not an animal to bring into contact with a room full of kids” to the owner; then I think the owner should not keep such an animal.

IMHO The owner was acting irresponsibly and foolishly to bring such an animal into a school.

Would you let kids stroke your pet Tiger? People keep/raise them, and occasionally they maul their owners to death. This is not such a different situation.

Nonetheless, from what I have typed above it’s not hard to deduce I am sad the dog was put down. It was the fault of the owner, not the dog.

As a side note – what can be done to reduce the number of these dogs being used as a substitute display weapon by the “hands down the front of the jogging bottom” types? Legislation? A campaign by deeply uncool celebrities to “claim” the image of these animals and make them undesirable?

I really must upload a pic of how I disappointed a thief with my Abus Steel-O-Flex X-Plus

They managed to put through the plastic outer, and just slid off the inner jacket. Wish I’d seen their faces when it wasn’t a “Lock Shaped Object”.

BTW That was right at the main entrance to Bradford Uni, at about Lunchtime in a weekday 8O

Do you ride on pavements/allow your kids to ride on pavements? Has it ever been a problem?

Yes – but I try very hard not to inconvenience anyone else. Always Say “Excuse me/Thanks” if I have to trundle past someone who hasn’t seen me etc. I see no reason to use the road if there’s acres of empty pavement – some unt© may flatten me!

    N/A

    Not that I recall.

I would keep the whole lot – you could conceivably use any part except the uppers or lowers, all the seals damping parts etc should be OK and may be compatible enabling a cheap service down the line.

DO NOT try to straighten bent forks. Even Toras are Magnesium cast lowers and will crack big styleee, if they haven’t already, and send you straight into a tree etc.

It’s probably the Legs/Stanchions pressed into the crown [Many Toras are steel legged and can bend more easily that Ally ones], but I wouldn’t try at all.

    Sorry dude, new forks needed.

I’m not in the market right now so perhaps a little off, but budget Marzocchi and X-Fusion seem to be pretty good right now IIRC, and you can’t go far wrong with Rockshox in the last few years.

    Good luck finding a deal.

My SJS build wheels appear to be greased with used chip fat or linseed oil or some other sticky stuff. Can’t remember what i used for my Hope/321D build, whatever Musson suggested I guess.

    ^^^ ROFL at that story.

There exists a man I know who I shall only refer to as “The Judge”.

He used to have several 10 foot high Northern Lights bushes growing outside, somewhere warm and sheltered.

Similarly to MrTall’s story – he would also fill many bin-bags with the stuff and just reach in when he wanted a little something.

I used to know him well, but then I moved away. Ho Hum :(

Chromebook is fully encrypted by default. Linky

Your IT guys need more coffee.

Remote desktop is easy – it’s just a Chrome [browser] plugin. It comes on the Chromebook, and you can install in on Windows+Chrome browser in 1 minute.

I was doing 3D CAD in Solid Edge yesterday with it , streamed from the CAD Workstation I built that was sitting in work.

Meanwhile I had my feet up on the sofa smoking a reefer :)

All I had to do was plug in a 3 button mouse and squint a bit as the Chromebook isn’t endowed with dual HD monitors ;)

I have a Samsung Chromebook, it’ s pretty sweet.

If you want to run Windows, I’d also suggest a Samsung, I had an NC10 which I loved dearly. Maybe a NOS or lightly used one like this?[/url]

RE the NC10 – after a 9 month cycle tour and years of abuse it died one day because the heatsink had worn through the back of the CPU die 8O

I have worked in a pet shop.

The thing you need to know most is the chewing potential. They can and may well destroy a table and chairs in an afternoon [certainly in terms of resale value], and will make short work of anything if they put their mind to it.

You will need expert advice – perhaps look for an owner’s forum?

Pets at Home usually have little introduction booklets for free and basic books from £3. I would you suggest you start there.
