^^^ What does it matter if he meant to “give away” that he was advocating attacking cyclists using his car to the public or just say it to his friends?

If I lived nearby I’d be popping in to have a chat with him, friendly like, but pissed off fo’ sho’

Some things that might actually cause a MoBo to fail:

    Heat/heat cycles – blocked vents/poor design/soldering [Apple I’m looking at you here]
Flex – holding lappy386 by e.g. the front edge only and letting the screen flex the bodywork when lifting
Other roughness – not opening the screen from the middle/both sides at once, not avoiding all sharp shocks [even a rough put-down ] from a coupla cm

You using them in the bath?

Regardless of manufacturer, you should be getting more life out of them.

I use my chromebook in the bath. Part of the reason I’m always posting on here!

Could a ‘spiky mains supply’ – cause premature laptop death ?

I was just wondering that. – But I would imagine the PSU would die 1st.

I think the most use we can be here to the OP is to find out WTF he’s doing to kill laptops in a year. Dude – what happens to them!?

EDIT: I’m starting to think this might be the only option:

Yep – I’ll be reading the linked one next too. Ta.

EDIT:From that article: “Thus if a train comes uncoupled or an air hose bursts, the brakes apply fully, automatically. The amount of braking relies on the amount the system is charged however.”

So perhaps the train’s brakes were not yet fully charged as the firefighters turned the engine off that the Driver had left running to charge the brake system pressure up before that pressure was reached. Or it could be that the compressor/engine was holding the pressure against a slow discharge to atmosphere.

If there are also hand-actuated mechanical brakes on the cars [which I am sure I’ve seen in the UK] then perhaps he made a judgement call regarding the current brakeline pressure, the time for the pressure to complete it’s rise and also the number of the mechanical brakes he was going to hand-apply on the connected cars to ensure they couldn’t roll on the incline.

And in the end, it could be that his estimations did not include someone turning the engine off when they did.

    :(

    Wut?

Unless I haven’t reached full caffeination yet and mis-read this: Either the stem bolts are too loose and the stem has rotated around the steerer, or it has not.

Assuming you haven’t changed them yet, wedge the wheel between your thighs [ooooh, matron] and twist the bars. If you can force the stem to rotate around the steerer without breaking/bending your front wheel then your pinch bolts were/are too loose.

If it has not then you either pushed your Center of Mass over the effective* edge of the bike’s points of contact with the ground and washed out [perhaps twisting the bars/wheel interface in a bodyslam with the pointy groundy bits] or your breaking and turning did something similar with the rake angle of the forks and their flexation, forcing the bike to pivot over the front [tuck under] and throw you off.

*I say effective as cornering will force you down against the ground which makes it too complicated for me to try and put into word on a slightly hung-over saturday AM – uhhhhh :zombie mode:

That front mech looks like it’s not really the same curvature as the ‘ring. Google the model no of the mech and check if it’s compatible with a chianring of the size. If you’ve previously had chainsuck and wedged the chain under the front mech it might also have bent it!

If you can be bothered to go through all the steps, this should get you there.

Failing that, ask a friendly greasemonkey to show you what’s wrong and take notes. If you’re near Corby I’ll be very happy to do it for you for free.

is it 100% facing the right way – with the pins and cutouts next to the 36t?

Are the chainrings the same in cross section throughout?

Pics should be posted, I’d say. tinypic.com works for that.

What is with the obsession over this?

I think I had a few nice exchanges with “TJ et al”, and perhaps a few less than nice ones. But I don’t really care if they’ve gone – surely other have stepped into their shoes, be it trolling or perhaps even [dare I say it] through interesting posts regarding bikes or riding.

FWIW, as Cougar [et al] have posted before, for every ban there is a way to circumvent it. If they really wanted to come back I’m sure they could find a way.

Can’t we move on? Or should we all just head over to STW:argue and bitch [oh puhleeease, people…]

    Good practice

Simples – water changes of 20%+ require the use of dechlorinator. Check your water supplier’s website to see if you need to treat for added Chlorine or Chloramines – some use one, some use the other. dechlorinators usually work on both, but will likely require different doses.

Or – stand the water in the sun for a day :)

She’s going back to Uni with me in Sept [!2nd Masters for her!].
