I also rate the F+F side very highly – maybe it’s because I thinkI ‘ll need it from others?!

    Everyone else:
I guess I oscillate from comfy [for too long] to major explosion of stress/effort – but I do believe life needs to be enjoyable!

    Thanks for the kind words.

Any ideas how I can chin-up and become more motivated then?

Any Douggy Adams quote is bound to help me though ;)

Woppit – I’m a Brit, but I get the point.

Been v broke so no trips to the pictures for ages.

The World’s End though, that’s gonna be the one to break the duck!

    R.e. Pacific Rim:

Kermode said “If you’re going to make a monsters fighting robots movie, this is the way to do it.”

Simon Mayo said “Very very very loud, very good too.”

    Paraphrases, of course.

Having ridden through some of the worst rain possible [Cornwall], I would confidently say, no it’s not possible to aquaplane.

    IMHO

    Not in a thousand years.

Yes those clamps are nifty – a little like this

which is how Twinny Load bike carriers fit.

That reminds me I have to ask the forum about getting ours to fit the car…

Owing to general laziness since a mixed surface trip, my Thorn is currently sporting : 2.3″ Marathon XRs, 3 bottle cages, front and rear racks and my usual bodged Crudcatcher front/rear combo. This is in addition to about 3″ of stem stackers, and gearing giving me a max on the flat speed of about 25mph @90RPM.

I carry about 5 Kgs of stuff 8 miles each way in the sun using a single front pannier on the rear rack and all my remaining water bottles are so crap I don’t use them.

In my mechanicing days I once saw a guy using a 24″ wheel DH rig of some sort with 3″ slicks and tripleclamps to do a couple of miles around London each day… To be fair, hucking whole flights of steps must be useful!

EDIT: ^^^yeah that looks about right!

So – what do you want? You want a lock that means that if someone gets into your van they cannot remove the bike no matter how hard they try?

Or do you mean you want it to stop it falling over when you drive?

I don’t quite understand, sorry. [Maybe I should take my tongue out from my nose?]

    I use this

with an Alfine and slightly better cable discs.

Love it, very swoopy geo, weight quite far back, better than the Subway 2 I had before. Also unlike the Subway it’s not been pinched.

NB if you get one be aware there is a free recall on models with those forks if fitted with an alloy steerer.

Fracking Conran mug…… I forgot about that. It is insulated though, so it may not be good for quick coffee in the AM, and also is bulky.

    I use this myself.

On my 9 month tour [as a coffee addict]

Just pour boiling water over grounds in a cup. Wait a couple of minutes and stir – THEY ALL SINK!

All you have to do is maybe catch a couple of floating grounds, [usually less than 10], don’t agitate it, and stop before you hit the bottom.

I found that when the grounds are exposed at the bottom of the mug a few little bits will float again, simply press your lips against the edge of the mug and sip gently from below the waterline so as not to slurp in the air/groundsontop.

    No equipment required!

But how would you introduce a new standard without making it incompatible with the existing rolling stock?

You could try adjusting the limit screw. The one marked H/High – try turning it 1/8th at a time ANTICLOCKWISE.

Try riding that, the shifting should be tested in the smallest, and middlemost sprockets on the cassette, but it wouldn’t be fair to expect the shifting to work well on the largest few.

I’d not adjust it more than 3* 1/8th in total, and if you undo it too far it will throw the chain off, and you should do it up again to where it was when it worked better.

With unpinned/ramped Chainrings you may find you have to back off the power substantially, and change by making a well timed “push and hold” with the Shifter.

    Good luck.

?Really? Why not just wind the springs the same or add some adjustment allowing for calibration in the factory?
