    Love that. 10/10 man.

In answer, have a coffee and go for a pootle. Take lots of water, and perhaps a little rehydration powder ;)

Just to play devil’s advocate for a second – can’t it take the lacquer/resin off if you leave it too long?

My Helitape took most of the lacquer off of my metallic on the Thorn :(

I will, but that situation sounded pretty spot-on for me so I’ll ask here first.

    Cheers though, good advice.

I’m sure that’s better – the only thing moving now is the cylinder and the oil/air.

Previously it was everything else, valving and more weight.

I’d guess the previous way round might have not performed as well, and perhaps starved the outer seals/foam rings of oil.

    Did it take long?

I never finish the last 2 mouthsful of water from my bottle for this reason – always ready to swallow/flush a bug.

RE Breathing – when there’s lots of bugs around [next to hedge etc] I sometimes [when no-one’s looking] pull my lower jaw a bit back and give myself a simpson’s-esque overbite so there’s no direct flight-path down my throat as I breathe. Shades are a must too.

How about this approach under the helmet? The stockingcap I mean, not the MMA skillz. Though having thought about it, MMA moves are the only way to get rid of horse flies when you stop for a breather.

WTF you want the NHS to resuscitate people with Titanium defibrillators and carry all the medicines in zip-loc bags instead of little brown glass bottles?

    Kevlar bandages….

Poor bastards need a set of hub gears. And Air forks. And Marathon Supremes – that’s a fast tyre.

“Common sense” does not really exist – it’s all a product of our personal experiences and prevalent culture. If they are largely the same, then you’ll agree. Otherwise, nope.

More power to you if you can wear a cat on your head…

    Shoulder, yes

I strongly recommend clothing rather than Sunscreen, it’s mostly highly toxic to marine life.

Well, it could be a styling choice.

I was genuinely shocked to be told by a co-worker RE new cars “I don’t care about anything other than the styling. It can be shit quality as long as it looks cool”.

    Those sorts are out there!

    I don’t think you’re right ir-bandito

If you slow the bike from the hub, there must be a total resultant force within the spokes equal to the force generated by the disc system. Seeing as 50% of the spokes have +ve length in the x-axis [trailing spokes], they will be under tension, the remaining 50% under compression.

Mary Hinge – no difference that you can see from the outside.

Anyway – I have work to do, and I suppose you’d be better off asking in a bike shop, maybe it’s in CYTECH somewhere?

Open Pros are great, but I don’t know if they are warrantied/safe to use with discs

I’m not sure – disc braking results in differential tension in the spokes depending on the direction they “face”, doesn’t it?

Rim braking does not – sure the spokes suspend the weight, but that’s more evenly distributed between both “directions” of spoke.

Wait a sec – Opens are not designed for discs, are they?

I do seem to have taken streamlining onboard a bit – here’s a design for a classroom device I’m just getting prototyped :)

Ceramic coatings will give you better wear life, but the braking will likely pants in the wet [assuming you buy harder ceramic specific pads].

On my tourere I have Ridiga Tungsten Carbide grit coated rims. 8000 mils or so on them, NO wear. Swisstop Blue pads, brakes hopeless in the wet, but can endo full-loaded bike with 1 finger in the dry.

    YMMV

Riding to get in the mileage is a sure fire way to lose your mojo. Ride to enjoy mountain biking, to enjoy the outdoors, the sights and smells. Take your computer/GPS off forget about strava and just have fun.

My 40 minute commute, and the state of the local trails have done for my desire to ride the MTB.

When back in Bradders, we’ll see.
