Poor vorlich – sounds as-if he’s building kit speakers whether he likes it or not!

    WRT bass quality:
In this case the extended frequencies are more coloured, the signal is “boxy”, but because it’s a deeper note, it’s a bit unusual to use that term to describe it. Basically the 109’s sound a bit more stuck to one note in the bass dept, and you can hear they go deeper – but presumably it at the cost of some distortion of the signal due to the boxes’ resonance.

As I said in another thread, they’re currently hooked up to a few thousand quids-worth of front end at my mates flat, which is interesting.

Was listening to classical yesterday, through the Technics/Sony combo – just not as involving. It sounds nice, but just doesn’t capture your attention or sound so involving- no idea how to quantify that.

He also lent me a £150 and a £50 pair of interconnects [VdH and Audioquest] and I am REALLY curious to hear if there is any difference… I am not going to look up their supposed sonic characteristics – just see if we can hear them ourselves first.

I have had good luck with:
    Sony CycleEnergy
    GP
    Sanyo Eneloop.

All in the NiMH precharged/low self discharge varieties.

Yo – jfletch, I said life of the battery itself. I should clarify, I mean the longer you keep it in a cool place the longer it will continue to hold it’s rated capacity. As you said, the warmer, the faster the reaction, so to maximise output voltage, keep it warm – but if you keep your phone out of the sun and pockets when not in use you will find it works better after a year or two. Hence unused lappy batteries in the fridge.

Temperature also – keep them cool to prolong the life of the battery itself. Lithium batteries degrade faster in warmer conditions.

Wow, that’s pretty impressive from Santa Cruz.

Thorn were nice to me, one of the eccentric bolt-inserts snapped off my Ex’s frame around the weld.

I emailed them while still in Oz, they tried to replicate it and discovered that the design should prevent it [weld>torsional strength of bolt]. Meanwhile we got a whole frame and forks sent to Cornwall for our return from Oz, and I got it welded for completing the remainder of the trip.

Rohloff – similar story. A bungie wrapped around my hub at speed. The fully loaded bike and I were travelling at about 30 and the tension on the bungie was so great it expanded into the sprocket seal and burst it. Sent it off to Rohloff Australia explaining that it was my fault, and they fixed it and posted it back FOC.

I assume that those of you who cover up spends also take precautions to avoid your other halves looking at your post history?! My G/F likes forums a lot, and seeing as we both use each-other’s lappy386’s she’s bound to open her/my machine and find it on the post history page. If she saw I’d commented on a “Lying to the wife about the cost of bike parts” page 100% certain she’d read it.

Clearly, in this case I’ll be OK – but some of you, surely you’d be beaten to death with your own newly-purchased “£50” Bombers?
