If the NC10 is powerful enough, I’d replace it with an AMD E2 chip, or a very low end Pentium [22nm series chip] Notebook. Both are faster, but still cheap. Personally my money is on AMD for an Atom replacement.

Watch out for larger notebooks having the same resolution on the screen – 1366 on a 15″ is just silly.

Thanks so much for your offers guys, I very nearly told them to get lost. I was dealing with a nice chap there, then he went on holiday without telling us in advance, and the woman who took over from him was utterly useless and rude – hence the thread.

I used to race EVERYBODY*, then I stopped trying [post 9 month tour I think- just got used to trundling].

Nonetheless it started to get to me, commuting 8 miles each way and letting rodies actually just saunter past without so much as an attempt to catch them or hunt them down.

My 40t Surly measures approx. 175mm Dia.

If we allow 10mm for the height of the teeth, we get: 165

165*Pi = 518

518/(25.4/2) = 40ish [it has 40T]
So (518-25.4)/Pi = 38T = 157mm ish
and (518-50.8)/Pi = 148mm….ish

ie for each 2T less than 40, you remove 25.4mm from the Circumference and then divide by Pi

Warm up/stretch first.

I used to live on the side of a valley, and then 5 minutes from the bottom of the track to the center of the village from where the road went to my 6form college.

Even though the ride was only 4 miles long, I used to get very weak/sore legs – worked out that 5 minutes of descending a muddy track followed by 5 minutes of riding/freewheeling down a road to the bottom of the valley made my non-warmed-up legs even colder. AND then going up the other steep side [usually in a rush ‘cos I was late] was what was doing my legs in.

I started walking for a minute or two through the village and riding slllooowwwllllyy up that big hil – problem sorted. A little stretching also helped 🙂

Also you may need to apply a little more cream. MTFU cream 😉
