I think you need the original install media. Boot from it and then something like this [copied text from another site – I searched for “Reinstall Windows Keep Files” – NB I think only the]

“You could do a custom install and recover the data from the Windows.old folder.

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

    Click Install Now

    Accept License Agreement

When the option is displayed to select an installation type, click (Custom Advanced)

Select the disk partition where you would like to install Windows 7 Click Next.

You will receive the following warning:
The partition you selected might contain files from a previous Windows Installation. If it does, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all cost, do NOT click anything named Format or Delete or Partition. So even doing a custom install, your personal files are still preserved.
    Click OK

Setup will now start the installation. During the installation, your machine will be restarted several times.

When the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience such as selecting your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then recover your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all your applications and drivers.”

However, to get your data beforehand, I’d burn a Ubuntu Live CD/DVD and boot from that. That should allow you to access your drives and copy stuff off to the external and/or laptop. If the other data drives are not corrupted in any way and don’t hold any Windows files, then I’d just disconnect them until after the OS is installed then hook them back up and turn the machine on [maybe let it get it’s updates first] – they should just remount.

OK. I’d still guess it’s connected, but I would, at this point, myself, just reinstall W7 leaving the rest of the files there [backup first if poss – you could boot from a Linux live CD/USB and copy the files off]

Apart from updates, on my main PC I think it only takes about 20 minutes to get the system installed so I’d say that’s relatively easy/quick thing to do.

EDIT – Oh, I wonder if there’s an easy way to put all the files you deleted today with CCleaner back – that’s got to be worth a try. Maybe that could be done from a command line with Linux – anyone know?

    CClean changes the Registry? Hmmmm…..

Never used it – but I might hazard a guess there’s a connection there.

Have you changed ANYTHING in the hours leading up to the problem?

I have had this when changing an HDD from “SATA as IDE” to “Native SATA Mode” on Gigabyte brand boards after the OS was installed. Undoing it fixed it.

Looks like the odds were stacked against us. Why was this not disclosed at the start of the thread!?

    From Wikipedia

“Subwoofer output level can be increased by increasing cone surface area or by increasing cone excursion. Since large drivers require undesirably large cabinets, most subwoofer drivers have large excursions. Unfortunately, high excursion, at high power levels, tends to produce more distortion from inherent mechanical and magnetic effects in electro-dynamic drivers (the most common sort). The conflict between assorted goals can never be fully resolved; subwoofer designs are necessarily compromises. Hoffman’s Iron Law (the efficiency of a woofer system is directly proportional to its cabinet volume and to the cube of its cutoff frequency) applies to subwoofers just as to all loudspeakers.”

Here’s[/url] another interesting type of “Subwoofer” – though I feel in your case it is not appropriate. Worth mentioning though!

+1 for B-tension screw. Wind it in till the jockey wheel moves away from the cassette and then try riding it. Then bring it back as much as you can. Have you fitted a larger cassette?

Also check inside the derailleur – a bent cage or rubbing inside the cage.

    Replaceable gear hanger alignment?

Also – it may just need to wear in. Ride it a little and look for where the wear is. I had a funny rumble on a bike recently and it was a wider chain on a SS setup rubbing on the bash guard. I tracked it down after a few mins because I could see the scoring!

    I can’t fault:

    Animal Kingdom
    Take Shelter
    or
    The Artist

    in respects of the cast.

    [or in anything else IMHO]

Rohloff sprocket after 10,000KM or thereabouts. I didn’t flip it because the seal surface was a bit cruddy.

Just out of interest – is it a sound you want to project or a physical feeling?

    What about this method?

I have to admit I thought scandium meant scandium plus a little of some other stuff!

On another matter, I once spent an unsuccessful half hour trying to ignite a pair of “Magnesium” fork lowers. That was total bloody disappointment I can tell you. 🙁 🙁 🙁

I’d read the wikipedia article on subwoofers – there’s a LOT on multi-sub setups and the effects that can be achieved with them.

    How big is the room?

RE Matching amps and drivers, with subs you want lots and lots of power [2,3,400W/more per driver], OR enormous speakers. The amps and the drivers should be quite closely matched, you defo don’t want LESS power from the amps [check what impedance the drivers are and what the amp can deliver into that impedance], I’d be aiming 120% or more of the max RMS INPUT for the driver, per amplifier driving it.

Car subs seldom work as intended in a room, as the car itself is a small enclosure and this effects the design of the speaker.

Cut a long story short I’d guess you’d be best phoning a few pro sound hire places and hiring a 2-4 15 or 18″ bass cabs with matching amps. At least you know it’ll work then.

I don’t think you’re right – I think it’s to do with the tooth profile and the Alloy choice and not the number of teeth.

But I could be wrong 🙂

Well – I guess that’s the demarcation line. I’d never listen to a record that has been encoded to sound like that. I think it sounds horrible and full of compression artifacts, but if you are OK with that then I see your point.

    I’m not though, sorry.

I know that, but I’m just curious as-to why it works fine on a cassette. It is the size of the sprocket [F*D=const.] or is it the fact a cassette can freewheel.

My money is that is should work but the Superstar one is just too crap to tek’ it!

Aaaah, Status Quo. I have one LP of theirs, and the first time I played it I started it on 45 by mistake.

It took a couple of minutes to notice [perhaps when the vocals came in] and, after the adjustment I discovered it sounded much better at 45. Mostly because it was over sooner.

I am relieved you were not hurt. In Aus someone tried to side-swipe my ex off her bike at a roundabout. We both gave him a serious earful, and eventually he apologised!!?!

Funny how these things turn out sometimes!
