While that is true for nearly everyone, the way I (deeply indecisive, I) look at it is that 320kbps AAC is nearly the exact same file size as FLAC, so why not store it lossless?

Then if you transcode to a lossy format in the future, you’ll not add-up the damage to the sound! I have gone mp3 to AAC and had it sound weird after :(

The reason it puts me off is I think photography should be about the photographer not the camera.

If the fridge is supplied with the van then the inverter (if there is one) should be OK. When I say “at startup” I mean the fridge isn’t always running it’s cooling system, so it will start/stop all the time as needed to hold the temperature down.

NB all this refers to a condensor fridge, like you probably have at home, with a heat-exchange circuit and a warm metal tube/grid at the back.

Other types of small fridge exist that use solid-state cooling (a special type of transistor-related technology where a set of silicon squares pump heat from one side of the system to another. These types don’t draw extra current at startup, but tend to be pretty small. They are also called “peltier” heat pumps).

You can back calculate from the wattage of the fridge.

Eg – 500w sticker draw on fridge:
Include losses in your calculation
500w out is probably <600w draw from inverter (hopefully less)

600w at 12V is 50A

So you’re using 50Ah (per hour)

Keeping leisure battery over 20% (battery care) means you have 80% of the battery’s Wh run time available:

eg 500Ah battery will give you (500*.8)/50 hours total run time.

Or 400/50=8 hours run time dropping 80% of the battery charge.

NB, peak/startup draw from a fridge is very high, much higher than the continuous power rating. Check your inverter is capable of that usage/peak draw or it maybe will disconnect the load.

If it’s a 12V fridge then just skip the efficiency calculation but use the same principles.

Just to hammer the message home, do not buy a non Ryzen AMD CPU now, they are hugely better than the old chips.

Broadly speaking, right now you should be looking to Ryzen in almost all cases, bar some high end gaming rigs.

Also, You don’t need a 500W psu for those configs. You need less, maybe 400w max with a high efficiency rating and high quality components.

When Pixels Collide
Last weekend, a fascinating act in the history of humanity played out on Reddit.

For April Fool’s Day, Reddit launched a little experiment. It gave its users, who are all anonymous, a blank canvas called Place.

The rules were simple. Each user could choose one pixel from 16 colors to place anywhere on the canvas. They could place as many pixels of as many colors as they wanted, but they had to wait a few minutes between placing each one.

Over the following 72 hours, what emerged was nothing short of miraculous. A collaborative artwork that shocked even its inventors.

From a single blank canvas, a couple simple rules and no plan, came this:

Same here, with names at least. I think it could be to do with how I tend to skip the pointless small talk and cut straight to something interesting or important when I meet someone, the subject of the conversation takes precedence.
