Haha good point. If you’ve ever looked a phone that’s just had it’s lock pattern input you’ll see you can copy it from the grease on the screen 90% of the time 🙂

JUMP IN THE SWIMMING POOL FULLY CLOTHED

That is exactly what I did coming back from the south of France at about age 12.

We drove to the airport with my trousers+t-shirt flapping out the window.

At this point I’d just like to point out that Apple are WAAAAY ahead of HTC and most other phone companies in terms of ethical sourcing of Tantalum. Less people are going to die/be enslaved for the minerals used in an Apple phone.

    Less.

Assh – that’s a design decision. Batteries are vulnerable and dangerous if physically damaged. Make them replaceable and you need to make them sturdy enough to handle/pocket. You also need connectors etc.

Integrate them and you get more space for the battery itself – not the packaging. The downside is you then can’t pop it off.

    A choice has to made.

And in answer: No. I’ve not seen any mention of a replaceable battery, which would be big news for the iPhone.

IA I agree WRT the last 2 generations being much better.

I disagree that it’s not going to become more important in the future to have a good GPU. Maybe not for typing in Word, but any transcoding, and any accelerated graphics or processing engine is patching into GPU now. And it’s only going to get more prevalent.

The Mercury Playback Engine from Adobe, for example. Photoshop’s GPU heavy now too, even the zoom and rotate are much better with acceleration!

    Avoid like the plague.

Some of them are downright dangerous. I was given some free, and I threw it away after a couple of hours – it clearly was bloody dangerous for my brain. “Annihilation” was the brand, and I could feel it doing that to my brain cells.

I have heard the issue described as “The chemical being a full antagonist for the receptors in the brain.” It’s really completely screwing with a major part of your body’s signalling system, not just tickling it like the natural Cannabinoids [maybe the wrong term, but you what I mean] in a real dried plant.

I know a couple of people who it’s really messed up. One guy can’t smoke anything ever again because he freaks out totally now after using Spice.

    AVOID.

Not if they so “No”, no.

And I know the difference between “loose” and “lose”, I just typed it wrong.

    C’mon IA – what’s wrong here then?

What are are you talking about? I have chosen not to buy an Apple product since then because the only compelling features are basically build quality and I haven’t felt the need [or indeed had the money available] to spend hundreds more for a small improvement. In addition, the Reality Distortion Field* moved from being just about specs to being the whole marketing animal. Oh, yes, and as a student of Design, I feel the constant trumpeting of Apple’s Design innovation has long-since been unwarranted.

It’s called the law of diminishing returns, you should check it out.

Emate, Newton, TiBook, Hinged Tower case, iMac [well, for a while], Macintosh, User Interface Guidelines, Retina Displays [kinda] – these are all technological or design turning points.

Bashing out iPhones and screwing with the Mac Pro are not.

Why does this all invoke some pathological hatred on one side or the other? Why not just be dispassionate?

Let me clarify – I don’t refer to only Apple users with that. The marketing virus is in 99% of all people.

Also, don’t call me a “hater” I’ve been using Apple’s since the LCII, but since 2009 or something they’ve been taking the piss.

Apple has clearly run out of ideas for now. The Mac Pro and now this, undermines it’s credibility. IDK if that is a view shared by the masses, but yeah. TBH most of the phone companies are in the same boat, but Apple’s the one the beats loudest about design. Also – the fingerprints scanner DOES mean there’s a real danger someone will loose a finger with their iphone robbery, and unless this technology is different to the other fingerprints scanners that is fitted to laptops then it’s the work of an hour to make a copy out of silicon. You can probably even do it from the print left on the button.

Apple’s not exactly screwed – but boy are they trying.

I have recently become aware of how the public has no idea whatsoever about design though – 99% are just sheeple eating their marketing turds eeeer’day.

Only the newest Intel integrated graphics are even half good. More and more stuff uses the GPU to offload work, even web browsers.

I’d avoid an Intel CPU with integrated graphics unless it’s a Haswell
series CPU – just check that against this list.

Other than that I’ll leave it to everyone else this time.

I have bought one of these – it can articulate at the end in 2 directions to allow cleaning under something. But in this case if I think if I stick my arm out the window I can clean the adjacent one. The issue is how to do the singles…..

I’m going to get soapy water in the face, aren’t I?

    Two things I suggest:-

a legal requirement to vote, and no cabinet reshuffles. You are either very well qualified for your position [for example a Masters+/work your way up to it, live it] or you can bugger off.

I think that would be a good start.

    cheekyboy – must be trolling

Edukator – That’s the British way. I was talking to a builder the other week – he was saying his wages had been cut to the bone in the “Financial Crisis”, yet his bosses were paid the same as before. I said “Is there not a union, or can you organise a protest?” “I don’t like to cause trouble,

“I really can’t be bothered, it might be difficult” etc etc etc came the replies.
