Somebody overtook me on my bike yesterday morning, on a righthand bend on a narrow two lane road as a van went the other way. It was such shit driving that the car behind stopped and asked if I got the plate so he and I could report it to the Police with his backup. Sadly not.

    Nearly Fri13th’d 🙁

    Falcon 4.0 / F/A-18 Hornet 2/3 / A-10 Attack.

    Those were the days…..

A-10 is still brilliant, despite being ancient. All the Graphsim stuff is good, but doesn’t mess around – you may find you’re dead before you’ve got your Radar in the right scanning mode 😉

    That’s bloody rotten.

I see the BBC news page is running that along with the Nicole Kidman thing, and Obree’s arse-in-the-air machine.

I’m beginning to think “cyclist” is a pajorative term, and should not be used. It only supports the “us and them” image.

Everybody needs to use a bike sometimes, then we will just be people on bikes, and for example the Kidman incident would be “Nicole Kidman knocked over by guy riding bike on pavement” – it’s not the fact he’s on a bike that’s caused the accident, it’s the fact he was riding it on the pavement*.

*Into people walking, being the issue here 😉

In true ministerial gaffe fashion, is Binners’ next gonna tell me Gregs sell Cornish Pasties and not “slop slices”?

I wouldn’t say it’s a parody, I’d say they did it for the giggles.

Time to get her a Chromebook?

EDIT: Or a fresh install of Linux. Should cope with browsing the web and looking at pictures, very unlikely to be hacked.

I would suggest copying the images off and nuking the install from orbit.

You will be around letting it restart/update for about 3 hours though I bet 😉

I think it’d be Green for me. But I would need to go and do some research.

Why isn’t it required by law to vote [with, of course, a “None of the above” option]?

    Labour/Green coalition?

That looks excellent fun and tasty food, Matt. I am almost embarrassed that I posted the pic above. Almost 🙂

I was surprised no-one else had done similar, actually!

Slow SillyTrackWorld day I guess. Good Cookin’TrackWorld, though. I’ve just finished stuffing my face with my own go-to meal of Linda Mccartney standard veg sausages and piles of Olive-oil roast veg [new potatoes, carrots, pepper, red onion and a few early sprouts]. All served with salt, pepper and lemon juice. I often add a dash of lemon or lime to BBQ’d food.

Quick question : what are the things wrapped around the sticks over the bucket? Pastry?

Nah, I don’t get it. There’s loads of plates around that don’t conform to those layouts. What about the Pimlico plates listed
    eg

    40 RAD
    44 RAD
    51NKS
    6 GAS
    701LET
    71LER
    8 WC

They don’t have more than 3 in a row – OK. But is it that you are saying they couldn’t be issued now as the format’s now been changed?

And that guy does have AM1R1CH. I stopped and looked at it.

TBH it’s all bollox though, as I see people driving EVERYday with screwcovers, dodgy spacing, the wrong font [?!?!] and recently loads of partially greyed-out plates. Why don’t they get stopped?

    Well, I would like 2*256/512GB drives I suppose, but yeah that’s a £-bomb.

I don’t get the speed issue, but then I don’t write many tiny files.

I check SMART values and Read/Write/Verify drives every few months as well. I don’t believe SSD’s usually give any warning of going titsup, and that scares me.

My friend who just had some f-off PC built [2*4GB 680GTX watercooled, for example] phoned me up saying “It boots to the desktop in 15 seconds!”
I said “I switch mine on, fill up a glass of water, drink it and come back in 1:30 and it’s on the desktop” If mine booted in 15 seconds I’d still be having a drink 😉

Meh, I kept the change from my WD Black and Spinpoint drives. They read around 120 MB/s for large files, so I rarely have to wait for more than 10 seconds for anything for any appreciable time, and I can probably just flick to another program or something for those few seconds anyway.

The other day I slurped about 1.2GB of files over Samba in Ubuntu writing to NTFS – now that was painful… <50MB/s. Sometimes about 30. Yuk.

takisawa2 – It’s ok, if you: get it fitted with a new HDD and bump to 4GB+ of RAM. Otherwise it’s going to be unusably slow – it’ll run out of RAM about 3 seconds after it’s booted and then be dumping RAM to that tiny tiny slow as a dog drive. Which is also not new and may well croak ASAP – taking all your work with it. Backup, backup, backup. If you don’t, you’ll be sorry. If not tomorrow then someday soon.

But that makes it non cost-effective, so I’d do as stumpy01 says and get a new machine. And an external drive for backups.

IA – I never used to recommend Quiksync due to O/P quality issues, but they do appear to have been addressed. Handbrake all the way for me.

SSDs, though – I still don’t use and here’s why.

Somewhere in Kettermineing is “AM1R1CH” – some new Jag I think. Usually parked alongside a row of moderate terraced houses. Confusing.

An acquaintance has 15R and 16R Bought a looong time ago, cost a little. Has been offered megabucks. It was on a 80s Micra, LOL.

Why are people asking if certain combinations are possible? Surely if you can find it for sale [new/2ndhand- issued by the DVLA or whatever] you can have it. Personalised plates don’t need to conform to the standard layout “LLNN LLL”.

Just managed it. Usually do 4 out of 5 times a week I’d say, but today I’m rather hungover and miserable but persuaded myself to.

tacopowell – “Holland is a region and former province located on the western coast of the Netherlands. The term Holland is also frequently used as a pars pro toto to refer to the whole of the country of the Netherlands. This usage is generally accepted, but disliked by part of the Dutch population, especially in the other parts of the Netherlands”

    Just so you know. 🙂

Some where in Bradford there’s a hatchback with something along the lines of W33D on it. Blackout windows, lowered, you know the rest.

Driven by a young lad with a massive New Era cap. How the hell he gets anywhere without being stopped is beyond me….
