Home now! All was fine, managed to get on the train from Garve ok without a booking, and there was only one bike on(but train was full for Localsh).

When I got to Inverness, there was only 5 minutes spare to make the connection for the stirling train, so just went straight onto it(the ticket checkers at the gate just told me to buy a ticket on the train). Even though it was fully booked for bikes, there wasn't any on the bike rack(and none turned up further down the line!), seems a bit of a weird system where people can book bikes on then not turn up.

Only problem was some moody people who had dumped all their luggage in the bike area and were a bit arsey when i asked if I could move it(and then move it back in front of the bike once i had put it on the rack).

Cheers guys i Think I've only got 5 mins to change for the Stirling train when I arrive at Inverness so I will first just chance it by going straight to the train. If I'm not allowed on I will double check in the ticket office to make sure there are definitely no free bike spaces and then buy some bin bags. Wheels in one, frame with tent on rack in other, then just carry the two pannier bags as luggage.

isn't that a bit like learning how to ride by jumping into an old pram and rolling down a hillside ?

Not really. There's no easier way to learn the correlation between film speed, aperture and shutter speed (the fundemental basics) than on a fully manual film camera with a few big physical knobs you need to turn for adjsutments. Going through menus on a dslr just isn't the same experience when learning.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but one way to learn and improve is to use a fully manual film camera every so often.

You can get ones with really clear markings for aperture and shutter speed (something cheap like a Praktica SuperTL1000 even has a rudimentry meter in it), so your eyesight shouldn't be a problem. You will quickly learn about the technicalities of photography, which definitely do translate over to digital. Makes you think a lot more too before taking a photograph.

If it's the 2002-08 one it uses the clamps around the door frame.

Got some Thule clamps (for fiestas), bars and 2x 591 carriers for sale if you are in Scotland.

Mine cost me ‘nowt but bar tape and tyres (Mate works at a recycle-a-bike so we scavenged the rest, including a dura ace track hub and a nice brookes saddle!). Was fun using the angle grinder on the riveted chainset

Rides well for the 3 mile commute to work.

too many people seem to care about labels on here. Who cares? just ride yer bike!

The newly released Samsung N110 is the daddy. >8 hours battery life, decent screen, and great keyboard. 160gb HD, windows xp, and decent webcam built in. Quite expensive for a netbook(about £30 more expensive than the NC10), but definitely the best by far.

Cheers to the organisers, probably the best overall SSSUK I’ve been to. Was a great laugh, the course was perfect, food good, beer good, crowd great etc. Probably won’t be sending my gran the photos of me on the rollapuluza machine though…

Good forks IF you spend time setting them up. They are an absolute bitch to get set up correctly though(2 +ve, 1 -ve,1 par and probably another air chamber I’ve forgotton!). Ignore any pressure guidelines Marzocchi give you and figure it out yourself, or check mtbr forum for ideas.

Coil ones are better though/easier to get feeling great though.

66SL’s look nice if you get the white ones :-)

http://theipod.tumblr.com/ (just to see if I could code the template around tumblrs API)

    http://www.holgablog.com/ (for film camera stuff).

Man, I spend my life on the internet :-(

this is tonight folks. Come along, should be fun!

Another reason to attend is so the club doesn’t end up having to pay £££ as we have underwritten it if 60 people don’t come…eek!

As El-Crispy said: Best reason is you can take beer into the cinema! That’s worth the admission price alone!
