@julianwilson. That Specialized does NOT have a Square taper chainset.. It’s Octalink V1.

Not sure if the Mondeo has TC, I’ve not booted it. But I’m usually a pretty cautious driver.

I don’t know about the AC but the controls blow hot through to cold. I didn’t press the dedicated AC button for cold air though.

The Focus was called a bag by someone who’s owned some real sheds. If he says it’s bad then it’s pretty much un-usable.

Gone for the mondeo saloon. Im picking it up by the end of next week all being well.

Got a mechanic friend of mine to check out the focus and its a bag of the proverbial.

I found and looked at a mondeo estate too today listed with 12 months mot. 40 mile trip to see it and in reality its a failure with all kinds of problems. Interior was destroyed. Bonnet wouldn’t open. Exterior scratched to death. Needing a full rear end rebuild as everythings worn to failure.

    So im getting the saloon.

Butter knife with a cut out of the end makes a great holder for the back screw insert for a chainring bolt.

Its had a good life. 2 previous owners before the dealer. Mother and son. Mondeo is around 400. As I say I know the dealer so its easily below parts value and scrap isnt alot different at all.

I know people who have had mondeos running far over 200k. My uncle has one at 180k

    I agree with Legend there.

Used a friends Focus for a longish journey (Manc-Essex) and didn’t find it very comfy. Plus it was tight with all the stuff in the car and 4 people.

I’m going too see how easily my V10 will fit in the saloon. Don’t mind dumping it on the back seat. If it’s difficult I’ll look for a hatch. But provided I can get it in the door I know there’s enough boot space.

Might even be able to get it in through the boot lid space if I move it right or take pedals off. I carry enough tools and spare parts too work on 5 bikes easy.

It isn’t big, but then my V10 isn’t small. Both wheels off it goes in with the forks and bars touching the front seats and the rear deraileur about 5cm from the boot lid.

Heh, I trust you guys but I’m getting confused with a few replies as they’re talking about hatchbacks too.

I’ll be probably carrying my bike 1-2 times a fortnight. Maybe more or less, it depends how much I ride.

Northwind: I think age is a factor, I’m 19 with 2 years NCD.

    chapaking: Dropped you a e-mail.

I agree about estates making more sense as bike cars but I’m being hit with alot more insurance premium if I went for one. As it stands I’d only be paying 90 more a year on the 1.8 Saloon than my 1.4 Rover.

They’ve given notice they’ll leave, the way I see it is that as thier contract is up and they’ve decided not to renew it then they’re duty-bound to leave on the date written.

The fact they have children shouldn’t factor in a courts decision really. They can go to sheltered accomodation. Besides if they are constantly late with payments you SHOULD have a written record of payments and dates signed by the tennant to cover yourself in the event they claim that they’ve paid you for the next month if it did go to court.

If you wanted too help them out and don’t have another tennant that’s signed a lease you could offer them a month by month contract while they sort themselves out somewhere too live. But make sure it’s written and signed by both parties.

I’m not a fan of roof mounted bikes. I go around some not amazing areas so it’s a little nerve-racking putting them inside the car, never mind on it. Plus it’s only a 17″ DH bike I’ll be carrying most likely.

Think ill ask about a test of boot space with my bike just to be sure.

It doesnt have a heated front screen. But thats a thing I feel I can live without having never tried it.

It is a saloon. The boot lid doesnt include the rear window.

Not fussed about hiding the bike as my old car isnt big so it goes in the boot and through onto the back seat.

None of you have just tried iTunes?

I used too have all mu music in wma files. Installed iTunes and it converted all of them to mp3 and it worked fine. Even transferred to my old macbook pro as wma files and it converted them.

Id be tempted by the x9 and sid. Though I would immediately sell the sid and buy fox. But I dont enjoy rockshox and detest shimano gearing.

iirc quite a few downhill bikes came with with 20-30mm less at the front than at the back. The original santa cruz v10 springs to mind.

probably best to ignore that one for the sake of this thread. V-10s are designed to have a log more sag (40%) than other bikes, so they effectively settle into the same position as an 8″ bike but with a load more negative travel

Wrong, well only slightly. The V10 is meant to have 30%-35% Sag depending on if your riding or “hucking”

Also the travel difference is more than 20-30mm on it. The V10 has a quoted “254mm/10″” rear travel. As opposed too the forks SC specced and built it too “200mm/8″”

I have ridden/owned quite a few bikes and I do agree that something like 160 100 would be great too ride. If the geometry is right for it.

Just clicked the link. They’re all at £50 now. Suspect it was just a template that’s been edited.

I think it’ll be another template error that’s caused them to have the RRP’s listed differently.

But that’s mine. All done. Tentatively listed FS.

‘Scuse the messy garage. It’s being moved around for a re-fit in the spring.

You can use a front shifter from a 2/3×9 on a 2/3×10 setup.

You cant use a rear 9 speed shifter with a 10 speed setup as the pull ratios are different and theres an extra ring you wont be able to use.

    Can’t fault JEJames.

Sheffield branch let me try out a few bikes without any problems.

Rotherham don’t let you try due to thefts and one of the managers is a bit of a prat. In general brilliant store like Sheffield too.

Were able to help me with most of my questions.

1 day for me. In a LBS. I came in the first day, boss was having family troubles, told me I didn’t have to come in the next day or the day after(actual day off) rang me 15 minutes past 9 and fired me for not coming in when he’d told me I was meant to be off both days. I even confirmed it with him and his father who also worked there.

Wow some of these times are alot longer than I expected.. (But then I don’t change fork seals. I have someone re-build the fork for me usually.)

I can build a HT bike, including hoses, bleeding etc.. In about 90 minutes tops and strip down in 15.

The only things that slow me down are if threads are dirty or anything like that.
My last FS bike was my V10 and when I’d gotten the new coil spring on the shock (Took 2 hours because it was as long as the shock.) It took me around 60 minutes too do the rest.

In my opinion. Young people are segregated from the rest of the population as a percentage let the rest of us down. Teenagers are left in a position where the general skills and qualifications aren’t enough too get them a job they can use as a career (unless you want to work in a fast food chain for the rest of your life). Also college places are getting more and more scarce and the qualifications you get from them mean even less. I have all of the qualifications in theory too become a parts salesman. But there’s nothing about. At all. I don’t write a brilliant CV so I’m overlooked for jobs constantly.

Youth employment is high because older people are working longer and until they’re older, leaving fewer positions open for new people.

So young people are being put into a position where they are claiming money and being denied it because they are being sent for jobs that aren’t there. Putting them into a hole that’s impossible to get out of.

I predict in the next 5 years youth homelessness and suicides will increase as jobs become even more scarce and more people are refused benefits. The only glimmer in the darkness is that the government will pay you JSA if you’re working full time in a charity shop.

This is a good topic to discuss..

“Mental health counselling” I’ve personally been through. My counsellor kicked me out for being unable too discuss things immediately and openly..

Since then I went too the doctors, got a referal. Another referal and then nothing since. I’ve been chasing it up for the last 12 months. My last appointment was 12/11 and they said they would be referring me for some further testing. Nothing since..

I would also like to say that in my own experience, Samaratans and the Salvation army are very eager too get your money and then ditch you when you actually need the help.

+1 for snowing in Penistone. Not sure how accurate the weather reports are, but a few sites are saying it’s set in from now until Saturday. I’m gutted really as I was hoping to get in a little DH riding over the weekend. 🙁
