See my problem with those lists of muscles being used – well there are two problems without even thinging about them. 1/ one of the hardest things about doing chin ups or pull ups is gripping the bar – they have included no muscles that can grip the bar. 2/ the amount of humeral head control with either exercise is huge. They have missed out most of the rotator cuff muscles in those lists.

Be careful what you read about exercise. The bulk of stuff written on the subject deserves to be in the bin.

Rotating your wrist changes the part of the range in which you are using biceps. Muscles are stronger in the middle of their range. It’s as simple as that.

I understand completely where you are coming from with your posts and understand equally how posting about crap doctors etc can be therapeutic. However, a cautionary tale – my father died of lung cancer a few years back. He’d been coughing up blood for 6 months or so before they took him for any proper investigative tests, so by the time he was diagnosed it was really too late to give him much of a chance of survival long term. I spent years thinking and asking lots of what if questions and looking for someone to blame. It made me ill. Then I worked with a few doctors, some which are right at the top of their tree. This taught me that absolutely everyone makes mistakes. They dont do it deliberately, but they make them, learn from them and move on. I doubt anyone deliberately missed that cancer, but I can pretty much guarantee that they will never miss a similar cancer for the rest of their career.

Alistair Brownlee’s time of 29 minutes 7 seconds in the 10,000m of the triathlon was just 97 seconds slower than Mo Farah’s gold-winning time in the 10,000m Olympic final.

Brownlee swam the 1,500m in open water in 17.04. China’s Sun Yang won the 1,500m gold in the pool with a world record time of 14.31.

Brownlee completed the 43km cycle in 59.03. Great Britain’s Bradley Wiggins won gold in the 44km time trial in 50.39.

All of those are impressive individual times by any standard, but back to back they are incredible.

I think hadge is trying to say that you had to be getting the equivalent of a world record breaking score in practice before you were considered for the team. I have no doubt the Bolt will be getting near the 9 second mark in practice, but has no chance of ever getting there when under the pressure of a world class competition.

Well I did it both ways in 40 hours. It was reasonably easy and certainly not what I’d consinder a challenge. Even had a nice 8hr kip in the middle.

The whole idea of doing the WHW double was to do it in 24hrs or less. All of these people who claim to have done the “WHW double” have simply ridden up and down the WHW, the have not completed the challenge that is the “WHW double” that various people at the top of endurance cycling in the UK have tried and failed to do.

I dunno about it being too big to do after work. I’ve had a 3hr round trip on the Cobbler before from Arrochar. Conditions do make a huge difference though. You could try going straight on at the narnain boulders towards ben ime then take a left and climb up the back of the cobbler as a quicker less technical route.

Your mistake was probably not setting off early enough for your climb up. For me topping out at 10:30 then having to wake at 4:30 would have been a non starter. Getting to the top for 9ish might have worked better.

Maybe also sleep in one of the wee caves/howfs in bad weather on the cobbler.
